Is paracetamol what we would call acetaminophen or Tylenol here in the States? Because a Tylenol overdose does not kill you for several weeks - it is NOT something you would swallow a bunch of and expect to fall asleep and never wake up. Which is why it's such a dangerous drug and a leading cause of liver transplants.

This case is SO STRANGE...

yes, paracetamol is an over the counter painkiller.

Yes, it's acetaminophen here in the U.S., which made me wonder about the unconfirmed earlier reports of their having taken it as it wouldn't be an apparent agent of attempted suicide.

Wow, this is such a weird case. However, why do people fall for these scams - undoubtedly Cotton managed to convince them all about the secret trial, but alarm bells should have bee ringing LOUDLY when: After receiving the initial proposal, Cotton told Mr McDonough he didn't really love her because he had failed to buy her a ring - a claim which led him to spend £1,870 on an engagement ring and send it to her - despite the two never having met.

Completely mad.

The court heard that Cotton used 15 mobile phones, two laptops and two tablet computers to convince the family that she was more than a dozen different people as part of the plot, posing online as Stephanie’s siblings and parents, her nurse, her lawyer, her advocate and even government officials.

Unbelievable, that a single person could pull this scam off. All those different phones and people she was meant to be. How did she even dream such a scam up!
