Mr Graham did not attend the hearing as he was “unavoidably detained”, his barrister Christopher Knox said.

A trial has been listed for 3 December and is anticipated to last at least 10 days.

Both men are accused of criminally damaging the tree and wall on 28 September, with both sites referred to in court documents as places of "historical interest" and "natural beauty" belonging to the National Trust.

They have been released on bail.

Sycamore Gap: Man again denies felling famous tree

Daniel Graham is one of two men accused of causing damage estimated at more than £620,000.

The 38-year-old, from Carlisle, Cumbria, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court for a pre-trial hearing and also denied causing damage of about £1,150 to Hadrian's Wall when it was hit by the tree.
He will face a trial in December alongside fellow Cumbrian man Adam Carruthers, 31, from Wigton, who pleaded not guilty to both offences at an earlier hearing.
The trial is expected to last for at least 10 days.
