Our family, including two young kids, divides our year between London and Canada -- we are in Canada now, but wanted to send our thoughts and best wishes to those in Manchester and London today. The stories emerging from London today, horrific and heartbreaking as some of them are, also display the resilience, courage, compassion, great-heartedness and humour for which London is famous. We are with you.

When I heard about this last night, the first place I came was Websleuths. I don't really have anything meaningful to contribute, but I feel really, really sad about this, and about everything that has happened and being with you gives me comfort, like being with family in a time of emotional trouble. Thanks, guys. Sending lots of love to everyone hurting right now.

Totally agree. I was alone last night, like every night since my husband passed but last night I was scared, shaken and anxious. I didn't sleep until gone 7am. I'm over 200 miles away from London but the events of the past few weeks have gotten to me, that I'm now alone in this mf crazy world. I didn't feel safe, but then I come here and find comfort in caring people.

Love ya everybody

[h=1]London Bridge terror attack: Australian woman stabbed in throat says 'bit of pain but I will survive'[/h]
Candice Hedge was one of two Australian victims in attack

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...tack-stabbed-neck-candice-hedge-a7771991.html
A victim of the London Bridge terror attack who was stabbed in the neck and recovering in hospital said she was in a “bit of pain but [she] will survive”.

Candice Hedge, 31, had finished her shift as a waitress at Elliot’s restaurant in London Bridge and was in a bar with her boyfriend when one of the attackers approached her.
It is understood the man came at her from behind, grabbed her head and stabbed her in the neck, the Courier-Mail reported.
Ms Hedge was in a coma but awoke in hospital. The knife had missed her main arteries and windpipe. She received stitches and was recovering.

Incredible work performed by all the LE and medical personnel! Absolutely outstanding people!
Thinking that the UK has superior communication systems.

The British Transport Police chief says that the officer who was wounded in the attack was armed only with his baton when he confronted the three knife-wielding assailants.

The officer, who was stabbed in the face, head and a leg, was one of the first responders.

British Transport Police Chief Constable Paul Crowther visited the officer at a hospital and said that he’s in stable condition. Crowther said that “it became clear that he showed enormous courage in the face of danger.”

Crowther added that “for an officer who only joined us less than two years ago, the bravery he showed was outstanding and makes me extremely proud.”

Sky News are saying 21 people in hospital are in a critical condition. I am so fed up and angry right now.

THIS JUST IN: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirms a Canadian was among those killed in last night's terrorist attack in London, England.

There have been some outstanding acts of bravery and an incredible response from the police last night that meant this tragedy wasn't much worse than it is.
This is a terrible event and should never have happened.

<modsnip>

Never let terrorists change you, unless it's for the better.

But doesn't it seem like terroristic attacks are increasing in frequency as of lately within the past year or so?

I will never understand the amount of hate necessary in a human being to kill children, men and women just randomly.
Sorry, Zen I tried to quote your whole beautiful post and my device cut you off. Apologies.

Trying to say, I agree. I think the normal brain (imo) has an instinct to kill in an emergency of protection --only if someone is trying to kill a loved one and ourselves or if a loved one is in direct immediate danger/being attacked. So it is self defense and even then, I think it is hard.

I won't derail the thread with evolutionary biology ramblings , but I agree with your post. Your dad was right imo.

Also, as already mentioned above, the police and first responders are absolute heroes.

Oh Thank goodness and thanks for posting the update. Had heard the original reports of this but no confirmation. So glad of this news in the midst all of this tragedy.

My son got back from London last week. He said he was on this bridge a bit more than a week ago, also on the bridge where the earlier attack took place. He said there are NO traffic barriers set up on either bridge! You'd think authorities would have done that at least on the other bridge but apparently not.

This is not confirmed , just his recollection. If so what are they thinking? Don't scare the tourists, what??
My son is in London and I didn't hear about this till this morning on the radio. I texted him and he is in Covent Garden. He said a few less people about otherwise business as usual. Thank god for the police. They got there and shot them in 8 minutes it said on the BBC news. The guys throwing bar stools at them were brave too especially if they had these fake bomb vests on. You wouldn't know that at the time.

The bridges are main thoroughfares for traffic and pedestrians so I can't see them being shut, maybe concrete pavement upstands perhaps.

Thank goodness those vests were fake.

And thank you all for your support.

Glad you heard your son is safe Shiresleuth.
Some incredible bravery from so many people last night it seems. x

You are loved. Never forget that, never!

Days from now, we will know their names. We will hear from those who knew them about how they became radicalized. We will hear from fellow members of their mosques who will talk about how some of them were talking up this stuff. What we will not hear probably will be that any of their Imams or coreligionists went to the authorities. They seldom do. They cover up for one another. I recall hearing about the Manchester bomber's friends talk about how he was in a group in his mosque supporting ISIS. Nobody apparently felt compelled to report them. It goes on and on.

I firmly believe most Muslims are decent honest people <mod snip> They need to stop tolerating this cancer in their religion.

Their friends, relatives and associates will be tracked like the Manchester bombers associates were and it will help. It is notable they had no guns or explosives thank God. Our election is only days away so am wondering about polling station security.
