It's been said before re: other cases, but sometimes you truly do wonder if the media copies posts here in Websleuths and other sources online
If they do, "Dear Guardian, please consider this my application to edit your Culture section, music or books, I'm not picky," lol.

As for the Mail, I could copy-edit but my price is high.

"Caught on CCTV: Video of suspect Stuart Hazell buying vodka as police hunted him over death of Tia"

<sbm>
"He allegedly told the shopkeeper: “Help me find Tia, I can’t sleep without her”.

<sbm>

Shop owner Prasanna Jayakumar, 49, said: “He came in and was very drunk, swaying all over the place and saying, ‘I’m Tia’s grandad and I need to find her’.

“He was crying and hitting his head with his fists.”

ETA:

"Mrs Sharp said her daughter – Tia’s mum Natalie, of nearby Mitcham – was “in bits” and had left the area because “she needed to get away”.

But Natalie, who has two other children, had spent much of the time during the hunt for Tia at her mother’s home.

It was believed she may have slept overnight at the property where her daughter’s body was found."

The story is changing swiftly and non too subtly

An hour ago, he was handing out pamphlets in the open

Next we have hiding under bushes

Now the log scenario

Yep - I'm inclined to believe the local paper at present. I think that's the most trustworthy that I've seen so far. And also as theyve spoken to the girl who contacted the police it sounds most accurate.

I've also read something else surrounding his arrest on another forum from an eye witness but not sure I'm allowed to post here.

I just don't understand this. It's like he believed his own hype! Or he didn't know what had happened and has been set up. I don't think this is the case though. Perhaps it's his way of dealing with it - he's blocked out whatever has happened and has convinced himself that he's telling the truth.

If he is drunk then the police won't be interviewing him any time soon. They will need to wait for him to sober up so that anything they get his accurate and can be used. I expect they'll be granted extended time to question him.

Maybe it is wishful thinking, but possibly the Gram kicked him out and he had no where else to go other than the park and get drunk, knowing full well what was coming. I think at least the whole family had suspicions.

If the body had been moved in between lofts, the tracking dogs should have still picked up on that! :banghead:

Don't understand it either. It's like three or four jig-saw puzzles tossed in a bag

Tia's mother slept overnight at the grandmother's house?

The grandmother and other family members sitting in a park after discovery of the body but before SH's arrest ?

Police conducted three searches of a small dwelling and didn't find the body - even the locals are finding that difficult to swallow

Police wondering if the body was moved between various roof spaces ? While the neighbours heard nothing above their heads?

I'm not ruling out a set-up

As many of these cases as I follow I will never, ever understand how someone can possibly harm a child they profess to love.

Given the age and relationships involved I think we'll find sexual assault the motive. I sincerely hope all perpetrators involved have to answer for their decisions and choices that led to Tia's death.

Gonna go smother my own overprotected 12 year old daughter with kisses. :(

BBM

Thanks button wasn't enough. GOD bless you BritsKate. These days I'm not sure there is such a thing as overprotected. :-(

I agree this was probably sexually motivated. It's as if some people never had a chance. If only everyone had a mom like you. I did, but of course, didn't appreciate it at the time. I hated being "overprotected" but now I give thanks for it.

Wish Tia and all the others, too numerous to mention unfortunately, had someone who had put them first and watched over them.

K.

Ok now, I'm offically lost...(was making dinner)

None of it makes much sense at the moment. I expect we won't hear much more tomorrow. The police will get the extension to 72 hours to question SH meaning we are likely to hear on either Sunday or Monday whether he'll be charged or not and at that point get more information.

The only thing I can see possibly happening tomorrow is more arrests of other family members and a statement from the police officially confirming that it is Tia's body that has been found.

I wish the UK was the same as US, legally speaking...it seems as though the suspects have even more rights and protections there, than here. Lots of us here in the US complain but good grief, in UK, Australia, Germany, Canada, etc...prisoners and ex-cons are protected to unreal extents.

Interesting page regarding media law and UK contempt of court proceedings, lawsuits brought by plaintiffs against news-gathering media, etc. Cites several recent cases and is instructive throughout:

Contempt of court and how to avoid it (davidbanksmedialaw.wordpress.com)

I'm baffled by some of the stuff I'm now reading but I refuse to start giving any benefit of the doubt again as I was so annoyed with myself when I was seemingly fooled by an interview...

Very little human behaviour surprises me anymore but I still can never get my head around people harming their children/grandchildren/kids in their care or in general. I'm not a parent or aunt but one of my closest friends has a little girl I adore and I would take a bullet before I'd allow any harm to come to her. I don't understand ANY murder, but that of a child... Ugh.

Regarding sub judice restrictions, I BELIEVE UK posters technically must adhere even on non-UK based websites, however I imagine the enforcement of such laws is much more complex as obv UK authorities would need to contact US site-owners etc... Perhaps the mods here could shed some light on this? The only reason I believe this to be the case is because I recall an issue with a UK resident getting into hot water by posting something on Twitter and being prosecuted, and I believe Twitter to be based in the US...

I think we heard mid evening he had been arrested so i am guessing that it was a while after the hairdresser called the police that they found him ( I'm assuming hairdressers don't open in the evening ) I suppose he could have hotfooted it to the common . One of the papers mentions his old childhood home overlooks the common

The vodka doesn't surprise me . He looks like he drinks a fair bit by the weather beaten face of his .

The Independent's HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?? lede grafs:
For seven days, police dog teams scoured woodland, searched dustbins and checked lock-ups on the down-at-heel estate where Tia Sharp went missing. Yesterday, as officers handed out leaflets and a senior officer prepared to address the cameras, the plan changed abruptly. Cordons went up and a search began of her grandmother's house.

After three previous searches of the house on The Lindens estate near Croydon, officers finally found a body. The force said it could not rule out the possibility that the body had been there all the time and was facing difficult questions about why the searches – involving both specialist officers and a dog team – failed to find anything.
