'beat her up 100 times'

Sadly, I think we know where this is heading. Since they had been to dinner, and likely drinking, that probably exacerbated his bad behavior, especially if he is as quick to temper as his ex reveals. Unreal that a man can be so vicious to a woman in his past, and still be allowed to cruise around the Caribbean on a freaking yacht doing it to other women!

More details from his ex:

Boyfriend of Brit who vanished off yacht was arrested for 'beating up ex'

She said: “Ryan’s personality changed once we got married.

“It was a beautiful wedding in 2008 but it was like he flipped a switch.

“He suddenly became a different person and that started on our honeymoon in Spain. We went to Madrid, Valencia, all over. But he was a total Jekyll and Hyde character.

“And that continued when we got home.

“He would have a good week, and then all of a sudden he changed. He was a totally different person publicly. None of his friends ever saw him like that. He was good at covering up.

“There was never a day when I didn’t fear him. I slept with a shotgun the whole time I went through my divorce.”

I agree. I'd read his ex-wife's story previously but hadn't realised it was actually documented with a criminal record so I was trying to keep an open mind, knowing how the tabloids like to noise people up. But I'm coming full circle on this one tbh, Occam's razor and all that. I just hope there can be some closure somehow for her family.

Timeline of Sarm Heslop's disappearance ‘doesn’t make sense’: friend

“This timeline just does not make sense to us,” Andrew Baldwin, 41, a friend of the missing woman for 25 years, told the Mirror.

“We know that Mr. Bane called the local police at 2:30 a.m. and was told to call the Coast Guard,” he said. “The Coast Guard was reported as saying that it was alerted to her disappearance by Mr. Bane at 11:46 a.m. on Monday.

“We know they had dinner in a local restaurant and left at 10 p.m. What we don’t know is what happened in those intervening hours,” Baldwin added.

(Another snippet from this article):

I saw the devil behind his eyes and it scared me. It was a totally different person who was there. It was petrifying.

“I was terrified already when he pulled me out of the truck. But during the assault my fear reached a whole other level.”

She added: “My face was all red and my tooth was broken. A couple of days later my face was black and blue and I had finger marks around my neck
.”

Bane and Stevenson met in Michigan and she says that his demeanor completely changed after their 2008 wedding. She said she ended their honeymoon early because she feared for her safety.

The couple divorced in 2014 and Bane moved to the Caribbean in 2015.

Stevenson now says that she is communicating with the Virgin Islands police about Bane's past and has provided authorities with court documents related to their marriage and divorce.

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Stevenson and her new fiance Carpenter say that they suspect foul play.

The couple said that Bane's father has flown to the Virgin Islands to be with his son.

So it looks like RB's dad flew in to the USVI after Sarm went missing.

RB's lawyer insists that RB has spent "countless hours" searching for Sarm yet there is zero evidence that he has done anything of the sort.

Thanks, at least we have an answer to one puzzle piece, this question about his dad really bothered me.
So father arrived after she went missing, emotional support or/and to help with search? to help hire an attorney? To cook for customers instead of Sarm? JMO

Sarm Heslop: Police report of Ryan Bane’s domestic violence arrest shows alleged victim claimed then-husband ‘smashed her head into the floor’

Police found Stevenson with a chipped tooth “that appeared to be fresh. Her right ear lobe was bloody and scratched. Her right shoulder and the right side of her neck showed red scratches. Her right eyelid was scratched and red.”

In an interview with police, Bane accused Stevenson of attacking him and alleged that Stevenson dragged or tried to drag him out of the car after the couple arrived home, not the other way around. The report indicates that some details provided by Bane were not supported by physical evidence at the scene.

So, not only was he abusive, he tried to turn the tables on her and say that she had abused him!

Devestating to read this, I hadn't realised either he had a criminal record for the DV. This is not looking great for Sarm, really hope this is a red herring, for her sake.

Surprised noone else has come forward about possible DV. Perhaps no serious relationship since divorce before Sarm? Just speculation moo

So so very sad.

Surely this gives VIPD probable cause to get on the boat. I should have been paying attention earlier in the thread when people were posting about search warrants and boats. I vaguely remember reading something about it being the Coastguard's domain? Seems they've left it too late now anyway for examining his body for scratches. I do think they should get a cadaver dog to search the dinghy.

MOO

This case is getting stranger and stranger every day. If a dog walker heard a scream around the time she disappeared then the boat was very close to land and if there was another boat anchored 100 feet away then surely if she could not manage to board the catamaran then she could have screamed to get attention for help (and maybe she did, since a scream was heard from the dog walker) or she could have swam to land or to the other boat. Sorry for the run on sentence.

Keep in mind that sound carries incredibly well over water, so they would not necessarily have to be as close to land as one may think.

I am sadly doubtful Sarm would have been conscious upon entering the water.

I am wondering, does the Dinghy have oars too? One would think it would. Therefore, a quick row out to sea to drop a body, no need to even start the engine, could be possible too.

Bane was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in 2011, while he was married to Corie Stevenson, according to The Sun, which said it obtained a police report from that time.

He was arrested at their home and served 21 days behind bars after he threw his wife to the floor and slammed her head against it, causing her tooth to break, the news outlet reported.

“Ryan’s personality changed once we got married. It was a beautiful wedding in 2008 but it was like he flipped a switch,” Stevenson told The Sun.

She reported him to police after the 2011 incident, which occurred when they were returning from a wedding to their home in Lake Orion near Detroit, according to The Sun.

Bane, who had been drinking, became “abusive” to her on trip home, according to the police report viewed by The Sun.

“Ryan grabbed (Corie) and dragged her out of the truck,” she told the police officer who wrote the report, which adds: “Ryan grabbed her in the dining room, threw her to the ground and smashed her head into the floor, chipping one of her teeth.

And no one, except the boyfriend, really knows whether they went straight back to the catamaran after leaving the restaurant. Especially if drink was involved, as it was in the reported DV incident. The motor would have been running at that time, yet no one has reported hearing or seeing them at around 10pm. It's probably a sound that one gets used to blocking out, like traffic passing if you live near a highway. If this is foul play and if he reported to police at 2:30am, I think whatever happened didn't happen at 2am.

I saw something on social media (family's FB search group) from a fellow pupil that he supposedly attended school with stating that they weren't surprised at seeing him in the news. I can't link to it here and obviously have no way of verifying what they have written or that they are who they say they are, but it is concerning and colours the whole perception of the timeline, seeking of a lawyer, resisting boat search etc.

I was wondering, if it was a case of her having slipped overboard at some point in the night, and was say, intoxicated or sleepwalking and unable to save herself as a result, would there be any risk from sealife there eg. sharks? I know bathers are usually warned particularly in areas such as this not to swim at dawn, dusk or nighttime.

Is there documentation of anyone other than Bane observing Sarm on the vessel after 10 PM? Is there a possibility that something happened on land and only Bane returned to the vessel?

Virgin Islands Sharks & Rays - Virgin Islands National Park (U.S. National Park Service).

I have zero experience with that part of the world unfortunately but Nurse sharks seem to be common, I'm sure lots of other types are around but I would think they'd avoid humans close to shore? And I think there would be signs of an attack (clothing etc)? There were water searches by experienced divers.
Others with actual experience hopefully chime in on this.
Speculation and moo only

I've snorkeled this area an other's like it very frequently. Nurse sharks are like puppies they are curious but don't attack (actually I don't even know if they have the type of teeth to attack??) but I've been very very close to them on numerous occasions and Disney use to even have a swim with sharks that had a bunch of nurse sharks in it, so no highly doubt it's a shark attack that close to the shore and the type of sharks that would be in that water. MOO based off my experience, COVID and the lack of people could have changed that though.

Sarm Heslop missing: Ex-wife of Briton's boyfriend 'live in fear of him' | Daily Mail Online

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Stevenson and her new fiance Carpenter say that they suspect foul play in Heslop's disappearance.

The couple said that Bane's father has flown to the Virgin Islands to be with his son.

<snip>

According to Bane, the couple had been for dinner in a restaurant, leaving at 10pm in line with the local Covid curfew and taking their dinghy back to the vessel, anchored 120ft from secluded Frank Bay.

<snip>

Heslop's friends insist they are not 'pointing fingers' at Bane but are calling on the American, who moved to the Caribbean in 2015, 'to provide as many details as possible'.

Anyone know how far from the boat the restaurant was? I had not read they had taken the dinghy that night. And I thought his dad was reported as being there that night?

RSBM

The friend who is coordinating or helping in the searches (Jeff) said he saw the father on the boat that Monday, when Sarm was reported missing, and has seen him there every day since. He said he assumed he was on the boat when it happened, but I don't know why he would assume that. He might have reason to wonder if he could have flown in so quickly, at the time he spoke to him?
