Police are asking for the public's help in solving the September 1998 slaying of a Salt Lake City girl on her front porch.

Ten years ago Wednesday, 10-year-old Anna Palmer was stabbed to death at her home near 1600 South and 300 East. The girl was found lying in a pool of blood with slash wounds on her neck, and bruises to her upper chest, face and body, as well as dried leaves and grass tangled in her hair, according to Salt Lake Tribune reports following the crime.

It happened between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on a Thursday evening, and police initially thought Palmer might have been attacked by a dog. Investigators later determined she had been murdered.

In September of 1998, a ten year old girl was murdered on her front porch. Police think there could be several people who know exactly who committed the crime.

But three years later, no one has come forward. Tonight, we continue our "Murder Mystery" series with a look at the murder of Anna Palmer.

Crime Specialist Karen Scullin has an update on the case.

The thing that really disturbs Salt Lake City detectives about this case, is that the murder was committed in broad daylight...at a very busy time of day. They strongly believe there are people who have the information they need to solve this crime.

Salt Lake Police are asking the public to contact them with any information at 801-799-INFO. Police request that the public reference case number 98-178523.

Police are offering a $6000 dollar reward for information leading to the capture of the murder suspect. Officers said any information will remain anonymous.

An "America's Most Wanted" segment ran on FOX in November 1998 explaining Palmer's murder and showing the composite sketch of the possible attacker.

If anyone can find a copy of this sketch I hope you will post it... None of the news articles I found have the sketch. I don't understand... why... if you have a sketch of a suspect it is not more readily available and publisized more. It's rediculous.

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake City Police Department has made a break in the 11-year-old cold case death of Anna Palmer. They've matched the killer's DNA to a prisoner in Idaho.

Anna Palmer was just 10 years old when she was killed; her mother found her dead on their porch. Now the news of a DNA match to her killer gives a chance for some sort of closure.

At the time of Palmer's murder, in September 1998, the Salt Lake City Police Department took trimmings of the little girl's fingernails and kept them for analysis. Recently, the Sorenson Forensics Lab was able to separate Palmer's DNA from her killer's.

With that accurate DNA profile, an FBI database called CODIS was able to match the killer's profile with 31-year-old Matthew John Breck.

That is so amazing! Thank goodness for the technology we have today. This can sit in prison the rest of his life.

This poor girl and her poor Mother! What a horrible crime! I hope this has gone or is scheduled for trial!
