From the article:

KAMAS, Utah — An unsealed search warrant shows Kouri Richins’ mother lost her partner under very similar suspicious circumstances.

The search warrant was served in 2023 just over a year after the death of Eric Richins. Eric Richins died from fentanyl poisoning in May 2022. Kouri Richins is charged with one count of criminal homicide relating to his death.

Death by oxycodone overdose

In the search warrant, detective Jeff H. O’Driscoll with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office wrote that he discovered the partner of Lisa Darden, Kouri’s mother, died in 2006. Darden’s partner died from an overdose of oxycodone.

O’Driscoll also noted that Darden had been named the partner’s beneficiary just before her death.
So her mother was…, oh nevermind. But it does seem to get stranger and stranger, doesn’t it?

Well, well, well.

KR’s “novel manuscript” (as if) just got another story line.

PARK CITY, Utah (Court TV) — A recently unsealed search warrant affidavit has revealed an investigation into Kouri Richins’ mother, Lisa Darden, who investigators believe could have possibly been “involved in planning and orchestrating” the death of Kouri’s husband.

A statement regarding this newly divulged information provided by Skye Lazaro, the attorney of Kouri Richins, reads as follows:

"Summit County is well aware that opioid addiction and fentanyl overdose is a rampant problem throughout the country. According to the CDC, 150 people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Not only was Summit County the first Utah county to file a lawsuit against “Big Pharma” Opioid Manufacturers and Distributors, in 2022 Park City Police, the Summit County Sheriff, Summit County Attorney and Park City School District issued a joint statement to its citizens warning “they’re finding an increasing amount of fentanyl, a drug fueling a surge in accidental overdoses nationwide.” The fact that Ms. Darden’s significant other was one of the millions that suffered from, and ultimately succumbed to, opioid addiction is hardly “suspicious.” It is tragic, and unfortunately, quite common.

The fact that Ms. Darden was the beneficiary of her romantic partner’s life insurance policy is also not unique. It only demonstrates that her circumstances are no different than most families in America. To suggest otherwise is nothing more than a baseless conspiracy theory."

She's nothing but a troll

Maybe that's what 'walk the dog' means.
Are you suggesting Kouri is extorting her mother over the death of her one-time partner? "Walk the dog" being "remember that secret we have between us, so do what I say"? Borrowing haphazardly from the insufferable biz cliché "walk the talk"?

Well, Skye is doing her job, and has a certain dramatic flair. I'm all in favor of the dramatic flair and not so much the defense-y banalities.

Earlier ITT someone theorized that she may have meant to say "wag the dog" instead of "walk the dog." If this is the case, using the definition of the phrase "wag the dog" I think it could still be accurate if she intended to remind mommy dearest of Eric's death.

Is Skye also representing Kouri's mom? To me that seems like a conflict of interest.

IMO, no reason for Darden to need Skye's representation. The death of Darden's partner occurred in 2006 and to my knowledge, Darden was never charged here. If not for Eric's death, I doubt we'd be hearing of this and Darden involvement is just speculation. JMO

except the freshly unsealed warrant alleges that Darden is being investigated not for the death of her deceased former partner, but for her possible involvement in Kouri's crime against Eric Richins. So yes, it may indeed be a conflict for her to speak on this matter if she is speaking for Darden and not Kouri. MO JMO

here is a link to the search warrant:

when this case first came to light, I dont recall any mention of her mother 'celebrating' with them the nite of his death. only KR and Eric. interesting, if my recollection is correct, why that fact was withheld.

She (LD) was there that night had a drink with the couple -- celebrating Kouri closing on a house for her business..

@GMA

Utah authorities investigated Kouri Richins' mother last spring, believing she was possibly "involved in planning and orchestrating” the death of Richins’ husband, Eric, according to a recently unsealed affidavit obtained by ABC News.

@kaynawhitworth reports.

From the article:

...

Because she entered a plea as a plea in abeyance, the charge will be dismissed if the court determines she has followed the terms. If not, she will be convicted of the misdemeanor.

Defense attorney Skye Lazaro assured the judge that Richins did complete grief counseling but did not get a report. A week before the deadline to submit that report, she was charged with murdering her husband and taken into custody.

The attorney filed an invoice on Tuesday from Acceptance Counseling showing Richins attended counseling after her husband's death and before the misdemeanor charge was filed, but not afterward.

The court scheduled an evidentiary hearing on May 13.

...

I take it that the May 13 evidentiary hearing mentioned in this article is for the assault case - correct? I have her next on 5/15/24 as a preliminary hearing for the murder. TIA!
