My husband leaves for work every morning at 6:30. He doesn't check on our kids as he is going out the door. For one thing, he doesn't want to wake them. For another, I just don't think that most parents think that their child will be missing in the morning. If you tuck them in safe and sound at night, I just don't think that most parents would be worried that they are not okay by early morning. JMHO

It is so sad that our society has come to having children taken from their beds to be raped and murdered. I bet children that live in that area are scared to death to sleep in their own beds and I can't say I blame them at all. I would let all of them sleep with me just to be safe.

I think I have been a member here for too long because I check on my kids every night before I go to bed and every morning before I get into the shower. I also have a video monitor in their room that I carry with me until I go to bed. One night a week hubby plays Volleyball and I make him check the kids with me when we go to bed. He thinks I’m crazy but if one were to go missing on a night that he was home late, I want to make sure the cops spend NO time wondering what I might have done before he got home. Most mornings we all leave together – I take the oldest to school and he takes the youngest. But on the occasional morning that I have to be in early – YES I check on them before I leave.

I know how you feel.

I was an at home mum until my youngest was 3 so I was always with them. As they grew older and started to get more independant I would make them call me constantly so I knew they arrived where they were supposed to be going safely...it drove them nuts as teenagers but I just couldn't help it. I had to know they were ok.

This is why I simply cannot understand people like Kate McCann who are quite happy leaving their babies alone at night while they go out and party.:maddening:

I can appreciate your diligence. I live in Utah, and honestly I believe most of our communities have a false sense of security. When I was in high school, we took a trip to Disneyland. When we arrived at our motel room the first night, my mom turned on the news. There were 4 murders reported that night on the news. I was FLOORED! We would hear about a murder on the news about once every two months if that in Utah. Things have obviously changed, but I still think that our crime rate is lower than a lot of states.

I kmow more about missing people than anyone around me. My friends and coworkers are shocked by these stories. I haven't been a member as long, but it does make me a bit more careful and scared of the possibilities that do exist.

I just think that the overall safety mindset is greater here in Utah. I feel lucky, but some of our kids are sheltered and naïve. I love my community and I love that we have less crime, but when it does occur, it shakes us to our core.

You're correct; Only 3 states have a lower crime rate than Utah. They are Maine, New Hampshire, and North Dakota.

Something has got to give on this case. They have the body, they have videos, and if they did a proper job of evidence collection from the home there should be some movement by now. MOO

I find it so sad this case was on the front page of the news for what - 1 or 2 days? A 6 year old is (presumably) taken from her bed and murdered and life goes on immediately?

I completely agree! There is nothing said about this case and about beautiful little Sierra. Why no pleas to the public??

Maybe our lower crime rate is actually a hinderance. Possibly our LE has little opportunity to practice and refine their crime solving skills. (I am being a touch sarcastic here).

I hope that they have more evidence than it appears and that someone is under surveillance or something. If my boys knew about this case, they wouldn't sleep well at night and we are 1 hour away.

Yeah, and all I can think about is if Sierra was kidnapped from her bed, and still missing, this case would probably get at least a few weeks of national coverage, and we would be on like the 20th thread by now. Sadly, the outcome in this case is probably the same in other cases where the child is still missing, but the difference in media coverage is overwhelming.

So this would be 6PM EST? Does anyone have a link?

PC at The DA's office-I hope that means they have arrested someone.

Fox 13 and KSL both have live streams a lot of the time for breaking news.
Generally there is a link on the home page. (Sometimes it's a different link.)

Ben I'm sure will be there and be tweeting it. As well as other reporters linked above too.

I initially thought they would be releasing a description or the video. However, it sounds like they made an arrest...
Probably made the arrest today because I haven't seen anything interesting on yesterday's arrests.
