I can appreciate your diligence. I live in Utah, and honestly I believe most of our communities have a false sense of security. When I was in high school, we took a trip to Disneyland. When we arrived at our motel room the first night, my mom turned on the news. There were 4 murders reported that night on the news. I was FLOORED! We would hear about a murder on the news about once every two months if that in Utah. Things have obviously changed, but I still think that our crime rate is lower than a lot of states.
I kmow more about missing people than anyone around me. My friends and coworkers are shocked by these stories. I haven't been a member as long, but it does make me a bit more careful and scared of the possibilities that do exist.
I just think that the overall safety mindset is greater here in Utah. I feel lucky, but some of our kids are sheltered and naïve. I love my community and I love that we have less crime, but when it does occur, it shakes us to our core.
