Whipple was ordered to complete five years of probation in conjunction with this case, and court records reveal he was progressing well until the beginning of this year, when he started missing classes and appointments with his treatment provider and counselor.

In March, he reportedly told his probation officer he was going through some personal issues and it was beginning to affect his treatment. By early April, he was no longer in contact with his probation officer, and a Salt Lake District Court judge issued a warrant for his arrest with bail set at $25,000.

Where's Lizzy Shelley? As hunt for 5-year-old continues, evidence mounts

Press conference, main statement from police (Q+A session to follow)

“So are we ready to go?”
- “Yes, sir.”

“You folks are all aware that, uh, on the 25th of May, at 10:03, um, Lizzy, um, Elizabeth Shelley, went missing with her uncle, Alex Whipple. We’re not 100% sure as to exactly what time these two went missing, but we have a timeframe that spans over about eight hours that the two potentially could have been gone together. First of all, let me suggest that there has been thousands of, uh, people hours in the efforts to search for Lizzy and try to find out where Lizzy might be. Thousands of hours, spanning over a number of police agencies; The Utah Attorney General, the FBI, Cache County Sheriff’s Office, Cache County Attorney’s Office, Northpark Police, Wieber County Search and Rescue, ICE, Homeland Security, Davis County Search and Rescue, Smithfield Police, State Bureau of Investigation, State Crime Lab, Child Exploitation Task Force, USU Police, Adult Probation and Parole, Rich County SAR, Boxover County (sp?) SAR, and of course, Logan City Police. I’m certain there’s others that I’ve missed and I apologize if I’ve missed you but, ah, numerous, numerous hours of trying to search and trying to understand what happened to Lizzy. So, on the 25th at about 3 p.m., Cache County Sheriff’s Office Deputy finds Alex, the uncle, in a remote part of the southern end of Cache County. He was subsequently arrested, had a couple of active warrants for his arrest, he was also arrested and charged with a weapons offense, interfering with police, he, again, had warrants; alcohol charge and resisting and interfering with police, controlled substance and PO violation. So, this is quite a span of time and quite a span of distance because it’s probably about ten miles south of the location of the home, (where he was picked up by Cache County Deputies). So the search, for Lexie, excuse me, Lizzy, sorry. So the search for Lizzy has largely been around a half mile surrounding her home. There have been evidentiary items discovered within that search, we’ve also searched the ten-mile area that we believe was Alex’s direction of travel, and again, we’ve simple found those few items that were in close proximity to Lizzy’s home. We have had hundreds of tips, some substantiated, some not. Video surveillance, y’know, your doorbell cams and that kind of stuff that have been helpful to us, because we’ve been able to rule out some things that had been initially suggested to us. The case is progressing, we have strong evidence connecting Alex to Lizzy’s disappearance. Obviously our heart goes out to Jessica and the Whipple family. It would be poor of me not to thank our numerous police agencies, those that were actively involved in helping us, even today, and those that have called and offered help. Clearly we have community partners as well that have been amazing, to this point, the community has come forward and had fed us, hundreds deep, and kept us hydrated, and have just tried to take care of us while we’re dealing with the arduous task of finding Lizzy. So, at this point we anticipate Alex going before the courts later on, we’re not quite sure what’s going to happen there at this point, but again, our case is progressing and we feel strongly that we have evidence connecting Alex to Lizzy’s disappearance.”

So are we back to there was , in fact, a family wedding that night?

Maybe refer to Silly Billy's post. I thought it was a rumor/speculation but someone unverified who is getting verified referred to it last night. Unclear to me--have never seen it documented by MSM nor LE. I would ask the mod.

I personally consider it a rumor/speculation as taught until I see verification.

5-27-19 Over View and Update of Missing 5 Year Old Elizabeth Shelley:

Police were called around 10 am on Sat the 25th to report a missing 5-year-old female Elizabeth Jessica Shelley.

According to family the complainants brother Alex Whipple showed up Friday evening and they were all in the home at 2am. When they awoke the next morning a little after 9 am they couldn’t find Elizabeth and Alex was no longer in the home. They searched for a while and then contacted police.

Police began search for Elizabeth and Alex, multiple agencies were called in to assist in these efforts. Officers located several items of interest a short distance from the home. This item has been tested and there is forensic evidence of 5-year-old Elizabeth Shelley. This evidence also connects Mr. Whipple to the residence from which she went missing and to Elizabeth herself. Some items were then located another short distance away which also shows a forensic connection to our missing 5-year-old.

Cache County Deputies Located Alex Whipple approximately 3pm at the south end of Cache Valley. He failed to identify himself and had a warrant for his arrest for not checking in with probation for is recent charges of receiving stolen property and driving under the influence. He was also in possession of drug paraphernalia. The Cache County Sheriff’s department has charged him with those criminal violations.

He was transported to Logan City police where he was interviewed by detectives. Mr. Whipple made several inconsistent statements at the very beginning and lied about his whereabouts which were already known. He was uncooperative throughout the interrogation. Several search warrants were obtained and executed throughout the night on several crime scenes and for evidence from Alex Whipple’s person. The evidence obtained from Alex Whipple was tested and there are confirmed forensic evidence from Elizabeth Shelley located from off his person.

Quoting my own post, treatment provider & counselor scream out at me this guy needed help & should have been receiving it “in house”.
I venturing a guess his self professed daily drug use is more than weed.

I'm feeling the same way. I just don't understand the criminal mind in general. It feels to me like a criminal mind must take entitlement to a level that most of us cannot understand. How someone can consider that they are entitled to take another person's life for their own sick needs is just beyond my realm of comprehension. I am so sad for Lizzy. I hope this case allows family members with questionable relatives to feel confident in decisions to not allow them access in any way to their children. It's sad to say that but this brother's history was a clear warning of future bad acts. It's unimaginable what it appears he did but yet there were warning signs.
Yes. We are all very big on stranger danger awareness. But how about more awareness about some bridges that need burning, and not feeling guilty,or that someone is owed a break because they are blood?
MOO.

I’ll say this about that (wedding), someone might have gotten married in Utah. But, LE keep requesting info for AW’s whereabouts Friday afternoon-evening. If he attended a wedding, I think they’d know by now. Moo
