GUILTY UT - Three Scout leaders for destroying Goblin Valley rock formation, Emery Co., 2013

This type of behavior never ceases to amaze me. People who think they have the right to destroy anything - ANYTHING - that does not belong to them personally is astonishing. My earliest memories on my childhood trips to our beautiful national and state parks was my father teaching me that you ALWAYS leave a place better than you found it. And I can honestly say that has always been how I (and my own children) conduct ourselves in our parks (and everywhere else for that matter).

If everyone acted the way these ignorant a. . holes did there would be no places of beauty left for others to enjoy. I hope they face large fines, humiliation, and, hopefully, embarrassment as they are picking up trash alongside the freeway in orange suits as they perform their community service hours. Oh . . . and budget-busting attorneys' fees.

QFT...I feel exactly the same way.

I like how the article says allegedly, as if perhaps it were muppets that actually did it and made the video that has been seen a million times...

Ex-Scout Leaders Plead Guilty To Rock Toppling

"SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two former Boy Scout leaders accused of toppling a 170 million-year-old rock formation in Utah last year have pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges."

"The men were sentenced to probation. If they meet its requirements, the offenses will later be removed from their records."

Bah, humbug!!!

And an article with a little more info:

"Although an exact restitution figure has yet to be determined, they could fork over thousands in fines — money that would go toward putting warning signs in the state park, The Tribune reported.

They also must pay $925 in court fees and split a $1,500 investigative cost after engineers had to assess damages to the 2,000-pound sandstone formation, also known as a hoodoo."

Utah goblin toppler’s personal injury filing named most ridiculous U.S. lawsuit of 2014

What was the most ridiculous lawsuit that made headlines in 2014?

According to the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, it came from Utah’s so-called goblin topplers.

When Glenn Tuck Taylor pushed over a hoodoo in Goblin Valley State Park in October 2013, he had a pending disability lawsuit. In the lawsuit, filed in September 2013, he claimed that he suffered serious and debilitating injuries from a car accident. Weeks later, he was seen on video pushing over the ancient rock formation.

Taylor’s lawsuit was rated the No. 1 "most ridiculous lawsuit of 2014," according to poll results from the Institute.

These guys amaze me in their stupidity and sheer arrogance. How dare they? Alter a natural rock formation? How dumb can you get?
