Just an acronym query from a country without police in schools... I thought it was School Resource Officer - SRO.

Everyone is saying RSO through the last few pages, which I thought was the WS acronym for a Registered Sex Offender.

Is there something else RSO stands for or are people just muddled? I'm confused.

MOO

It's SRO -- School Resource Officer.

RSO is Registered Sex Offender which is what I kept thinking whenever I read it, before I quickly remembered they just meant SRO.

OK my fellow sleuthers, help me out here. What is the significance of the comment below:

“A former Richneck parent, Steve Carrington, told News 3's Kelsey Jones that he was happy to hear about the indictment.

"If it had been anyone else, they would have been charged," he said. "It should have happened a while ago, but I'm glad it happened."”

“If it had been anyone else??!!”

Emphasis mine.
Holy heck.
Is the mother related to or friends with the school admin. ?
This isn't the first time I've wondered that, either !!

Yes. Agree.

I figured a school board member. But perhaps an administrator.

There are several recent examples of parents/guardians being immediately arrested when a child brings a gun to school....minus actually shooting a teacher.

Imho

Or she's just some kind of perennial troublemaker who causes problems wherever she goes?
Is she a troublemaker? Are there links to this information? I haven’t been around and I’m not sure if I missed anything.

I took the Dad’s comment as referring to the fact that it was probably well known that she is the parent of a child with what sounds to me like a profound mental health disability.

Family Wants to "understand how this could have happened"*
Family has "always been committed to responsible gun ownership"

Why does a MSM outlet publish extensive info from a "SPOKESPERSON" whom it does NOT IDENTIFY?

I missed this when first published. Prob'ly was discussed here, but I wonder who the family "spokesperson" is. Fam. friend or relative? How does someone claim to be a spokesperson for fam but does not want identity revealed?

Maybe Ellenson, atty now rep'ing the mother? If so, why not disclose name? Either atty or Mother did not want to reveal she had engaged an atty at that time?

* From Jan. 19 MSM.
"The family of the 6-year-old boy accused of shooting a teacher at his Virginia elementary school is speaking out for the first time.
"The family said the "firearm our son accessed was secured...."
"The 6-year-old's family released a statement through a spokesperson, saying, "Our family has always been committed to responsible gun ownership and keeping firearms out of the reach of children...."
""We have been cooperating with local and federal law enforcement to understand how this could have happened," the family said...."
"Their son "suffers from an acute disability and was under a care plan at the school that included his mother or father attending school with him and accompanying him to class every day," the family said. "The week of the shooting was the first week when we were not in class with him. We will regret our absence on this day for the rest of our lives."
* Family of 6-year-old who shot teacher speaks out for 1st time.

I am leaning more and more towards the family of the shooter being related to someone in administration (and my bets would be on the person who resigned, but that is completely my opinion, no evidence to back it up). After working in education for 30+ years, I have seen a lot. When I read about how the teachers' concerns about this student were ignored/swept aside, and how the parents were allowed to accompany child to school daily, it smacks of nepotism of some sort... All IMOO.

I'm curious how this boy treats his own mother. Does she live in fear of him? and if so what recourse does she have?

IMO she could have had him fully evaluated and allowed to receive any and every resource available.
Being only 25 and having a child who acts like this, she needed a lot of help.

But we don't know exactly what the parents did do, to help him and themselves.

What was available to them, what help did they accept, and was there anything they actually refused? Was he on waiting lists?

You could be right, I could be reading too much into it. Interesting, nonetheless, IMO.

From Ms. Zwerner’s complaint— :

“Assistant Principal Parker’s lack of response to Plaintiff’s concerns on the day of the shooting was consistent with her reputation among teachers. She was well known by teachers working in Newport News to ignore and downplay concerns expressed by teachers, and to demean teachers working in schools in which she was an administrator. Teachers expressed similar concerns about her administrative style when she was an Assistant Principal at Newsome Park Elementary School in Newport News. Oftentimes students who were sent to Assistant Principal Parker for discipline as a result of unruly or violent behavior would return to the classroom bragging about candy they had received from Assistant Principal Parker. In short, Assistant Principal Parker’s administrative style was to permit students to engage in dangerous and disruptive conduct and impose no consequence for breaking the rules, thereby placing all persons in the vicinity of the school and in the community at risk.”

Thanks, the article has the entire complaint filed. I'll say AZs attorneys have clearly outlined at least 3 laws broken, per VA Code.

If this goes to trial, it's gonna be ugly. I do believe there is enough documentation of violent behavior, not only this year but last year. I do believe the "special relationship" between the student John Doe and the school board will be made public.

Clearly the VP violated the law by not reporting to LE immediately. VA CODE 22.1.279.3.1 ....school officials must report all illegal firearms to LE immediately.

Moo...

....
A special grand jury has been appointed to investigate any additional information regarding “actions or omissions” by current or former Newport News Public Schools employees following the Richneck Elementary School shooting.

The petition continued by saying the investigation is warranted to determine:

  • the full scope of any criminal activity that occurred
  • The circumstances surrounding such activity
  • To charge those persons who are criminally responsible for such acts or omission according to the law
  • To make sure other recommendations as necessary to remedy those security failures in the hopes that such a situation never occurs again
...

The order continued by saying that the special grand jury shall “investigate and report on any condition that involves or tends to promote criminal activity, and shall consider bills of indictment related to such criminal activity.”

The two that stand out to me:

#1 she's the friend/relative of someone else at the school that seems to play by their own set of rules
#2 it's a racial issue (sadly, that vile beast is still alive and well in our society)

...
Bill Boyd lives across the street from Deja Taylor, the mother of a six-year-old who shot his first-grade teacher. It has been the most talked about national story this year, and he had no idea Taylor lived across the street.

“This is shocking,” Boyd said. “Yes, I am very much surprised. I can’t wait to go share it with the rest of my neighbors. … It is shocking.”

It was shocking for every neighbor we spoke to out here.
....
We knocked on Taylor’s door, but there was no answer. Then we heard music inside. Then it stopped, and then started again. There appeared to be someone in the house, but no one answered the door.

Following that, while standing on the public sidewalk a woman pulled up, got out, and went to the door.
10 On Your Side asked, “Are you Ms. Taylor? Can you identify yourself please?”

“Will you respectfully leave, or I will call the police,” she responded.

10 On Your Side asked if she was Ms. Taylor and if she would identify herself.

“Can you leave … or I will call police,” she said.
That person did call the police, but we were on a public street and public sidewalk and had every right to be there, which was acknowledged by police.
