she definitely fell overboard. it' a no-brainer... tons of booze + pot maybe? or who knows what else.. she was partying pretty hard that night), plus a cruise ship... you go out to the edge, alone, and.. what's bound to happen? she either leaned over (to puke, look at the side of the boat, or some other crazy idea).. or tried to sit on the railing or walk on it like it was a balance beam and lost her balance, or had some drunken notion of jumping overboard for a swim. or there's always the possibility that she resisted someone's advances, or she witnessed some kind of drug exchange or something illegal... and someone decided they needed to do away with her.. so they went to meet her out there, covered her mouth, and FLIP-- she's gone.
and don't forget there's always the possibility of suicide. there's a million reasons why a young women like amy might want to end it all, even though they appear happy on the outside and everything appears normal to their parents. people do it all the time.. much to the shock and surprise of their families. and booze (& drugs, if there were any) would definitely help you build up your nerve if you had any thoughts of it.
the possibilities of being sold into a brothel.. or runnning away & leading a double life in some exotic country are just too far-out to be very likely, IMO.
