This baby had an untreated broken arm and was showing signs of stravation! OH!@!!

These POSs!

In my opinion, the Department of Social Services has some explaining to do as to WHY this child was put back into that home!

ML was denied bond: http://www.roanoke.com/news/breaking/wb/239513

I'm happy to hear that! She wanted to live with her mother and the other kids :furious::sick::furious:

I'm screaming out loud here!

OMG what this poor child went through. I agree the dept of social services has some explaining to do. (Oh, and lets not forget Ms. Conlin explaining how this was unforseeable and her department bore zero responsibility for this happening. Uh huh! :furious:)

From your first above link Salem:

Lockett told the judge she was pregnant, with the baby due on May 26th.
So she was 5 months preggo in January? Why do I not believe this edd? Obviously she is trying to play on the judges sympathy. After what she and her husband did to this child I doubt she will find ANY sympathy from the judge.

From the second link Salem posted:

The Department of Social Services removed Aveion from the Locketts' custody when he was 14 months old, after a report that he had been neglected. He was returned to the Locketts in September after spending about 16 months in foster care.

All of the above happened in 4 months! 4 MONTHS!

Oh Aveion, I am so sorry you had to endure this for the last 4 months of your life and that you were taken away from a happy healthy environment with your foster parents who loved and wanted to care for you.

and I want to know where the *bleep* morgans family members were during these 4 months that they apparently missed their nephew, grandchild being starved all over again. Did they not see this child for Christmas? :furious:

I figured as much....and am actually surprised we haven't heard blunt force trauma to the head....seems to be an epidemic of that these days.

I sometimes wish WS could excuse really foul language....got a lot of that in my head right now - directed at BL & ML.

I'll just settle for hoping that they rot away in prison so I don't get a TO.

ETA: :furious: :furious: why SECOND DEGREE if this baby was starved!!! ML did it before & lost Aveion....COME ON -- starving one's kid will kill them!! :furious: :furious:

Forgot to add I can not believe these children are still in the care of their maternal grandmother. At least the oldest. I PRAY that her bio daddy and paternal grandmother are doing everything they can to get that child out of that home and in a safe environment! The extended family KNEW! THEY KNEW AND WERE WELL AWARE of the neglect Aveion suffered before he was placed in foster care and not a *bleep* one of them bothered to ensure he was being properly cared for once he was returned to his monster egg donor and the step monster.

BBM. I agree, hence my using the '*bleep*' in my posts. The best I could do for those same words going through my head too!

I also agree about the second degree. It is still possible we will see the charges upgraded.

Aveion's mom denied bond on child murder charge

Aveion Lewis' mother, Morgan Elizabeth Ward Lockett, will remain jailed without bond as she awaits trial on charges she and her husband murdered the 2-year-old, a Roanoke Circuit Court judge ruled today.

Judge Clifford Weckstein denied the request for bond at a hearing today, citing the serious nature of the charges and three other children in the Lockett home. The other children are aged 4, almost 2 and almost 1. Lockett, 23, also is expecting another child in May.

I'm just sick over this...

3 lawyers? I love how the state is footing the bill for this woman. First, subsidized housing.. Now.. 3 public defenders?? I hope they stack the jury full of Mothers. Mothers who can see right through the bs of Morgan being the victim. I also hope they take that baby that she's carrying away from her immediately.

update on the same article -- BBM
4:12 p.m.

10 On Your Side’s Meagan Farley has learned the former foster parents of Aveion Lewis have filed the necessary paperwork to ask a judge to adopt Morgan Lockett’s three children.
This will have to worked out in the courts too.

Lockett’s attorneys said they’ll likely ask a judge to release her on bond before her baby is due on May 26th.

Lockett told the judge she intends to deliver by cesarian section.

I think the only way Morgan will get bond is if she agrees to terminate her parental rights to her three living children and her 5th on the way. Just having a baby is not reason to grant bond.

I do not think the oldest childs father will voluntarily terminate his parental rights allowing his child to be adopted. However, that too is based on my hope that his statements through the press were truthful. While I do not doubt him, and he is in every right a victim as well, we don't have any way to independently verify his statements to the press. I say that only because these childrens best interests need to be put first. I hope he will make a statement after the memorial service. He deserves at least the time to greive before hand.

As for the 3 lawyers.

"In what some legal observers term an unusual move, Roanoke City circuit court judge Clifford Weckstein agreed to appoint Lockett an entire legal firm to represent her, the Roanoke firm of Strickland, Diviney, & Strelka"

I'm hoping that is kind of like an HMO thing in a medical group. If your child is sick and your regular pediatrician isn't available you can see another within the medical group. Too bad Aveions mommy never thought to bring him to a pediatrician.

If she is indeed having a medically-necessary C-Section, she may have to leave the jail for the birth. In a prison, I would think they might have a full hospital (I know women give birth vaginally in prison all the time) that could handle a C-Section, but not a jail.

I've missed somewhere along the way what the oldest child's father said ... could someone please paraphrase? Who is the father of the other children and have they stepped forward?

TIA!

and if so she will be escorted in a secured vehicle hand cuffed to wherever she delivers with a few jail guards. If she has to deliver via c-section most are scheduled.

Brandon is the biological father of her two youngest and the one on the way.
Aveion and her oldest are the biological children of James Lewis.
Here is a link to him speaking about losing his son back in Janauary.

Me too. I'm seriously restraining myself from posting what would no doubt get me banned.

"My sister's only crime is marrying a deadbeat," said Morgan Lockett's sister, Cara Ward. She said the Locketts' three other children are happy and healthy. If there was any abuse, she said, Morgan Lockett didn't know about it.

Before his death in January, 3-year-old Aveion Lewis had a broken arm, severe burns, and was showing signs of severe starvation, according to new information just released from prosecutors in the case.

Son. of. a. *****.

Does Auntie Dearest still want to claim her sister didn't know her own baby was starving, burned and had a ******* broken arm??????

OMG. My blood pressure just went through the damned roof.

Severe starvation? AGAIN????

Severe burns? A ******* broken arm??? And she didn't know???

WHY isn't this being prosecuted as 1st degree?? Premeditated? Hell yeah. And when they put this precious battered child into that garbage...

What does Uncle Chris have to say about wanting "street justice" now?

:furious:

My God.

I pray I'm called for jury duty. Please God.

WHY ARE THOSE CHILDREN ANYWHERE NEAR THAT FAMILY???????

At the very LEAST, they are too damned stupid to realize when a child is in danger and being beaten, burned and starved to death. What makes authorities think they can do any better with these kids?

BTW, the Roanoke Times needs to get its damned facts straight:

Bull. That child didn't have any trouble eating. When he was fed.

ETA: I just emailed the reporter.

I was reading about an horrifically abused 2mo baby in LA - the older kids been taken away in 2007 & returned to the mom...The DA had this to say:

“Up until right now, the primary directive of OCS through child protection services was to reunite the family. It should be the secondary directive. The primary directive should be to protect the children that have been abused.

“If that had happened in this case and a couple of other cases, we may not be in the situation we are in right now,” he said.

DeRosier said he believes that reunification of the family “is fine in a perfect world.”

“However, in a situation where you have had severe child abuse, you just can’t put the momma through a few hoops and then say she is ready to visit her children again when she has done serious physical damage to those children before. That’s what has happened here,” he said.

How true -- it happened to little Aveion....so sad for these helpless little kids who are dying at the hands of their caregivers when they are *known* abusers.

I'm all for the reunification of the family. Except in cases where there's been child abuse... I mean, drug addicts can get clean and stay clean, people who maybe are having a hard time financially (especially right now..) can work on ways to better their situation... but abusers never stop. Courts hardly ever look at the father for placement, which I don't know why...

I'll be honest. My mother worked very long hours at a very good job. My father was a stay at home dad. And my dad was GREAT. My sister and I were always clean, very well fed, and we had a great time playing and going for walks or riding our bikes. Now I realize that it's a little different, we weren't placed with my dad, my parents were still together, and my mom came home very late, we usually saw her on the weekends or in the morning before she left for work. But my point is.. Dads are just as capable as moms are when it comes to taking care of their children. Courts need to start looking at placing with fathers as an option!!

I'm not saying that there isn't more that could have been done by Aveion's father, but it is ALOT harder for father's to show that they can provide a stable loving environment for their kids. I really hope that Aveion's dad at least tries to fight for his sister.

Does anyone know what the foster family's chances are as to getting custody of the kids? Could they go to court and tell the judge that the biological family already allowed one of the other children to be severely abused and even murdered??

All of those signs of abuse noted by the prosecutor would have been evident with just a gross examination by the ME very soon after he received the body. Why in the hell weren't those other three children immediately removed from the home. Why were they allowed to LIVE with Aveion's murderer?

As far as the foster family's chances of getting custody of the other kids? I'm betting slim to none. Just look at what a great job CPS has done so far...

Good point Calliope!

I don't understand any of this... So very sad to know that this abuse started right back up again basically the minute Aveion went back home. If they didn't want that child...why not just say so and that the other family was taking care of him... But no, apparently ML & BL had to have something to take their frustrations out on...

Poor Aveion....my heart just breaks for him...
