Hannah Graham's mother: 'Please help end this nightmare'

"My name is Sue Graham. At my side is my husband John. As you know we are Hannah's parents. I will now read a brief statement.

Firstly, we would like again to express our enormous gratitude to all those who have been involved in the search for Hannah, including the police, the professional search teams, the people staffing the telephone tip line, UVa students, our friends, neighbours and work colleagues as well as the citizens of Charlottesville and the surrounding area. We would also like to thank the many, many kind people who have supported our family during this terrible ordeal through words, deeds, thoughts and prayers. We also owe our sincere thanks to the City of Charlottesville, the University of Virginia and the concerned citizens who have contributed a total of $100,000 to the reward which is being offered for information leading to Hannah's return. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of you all.

As you are all aware, an individual has been charged with the abduction of our beloved daughter Hannah. However, despite extensive search efforts, no trace of Hannah has been found since she disappeared in the early hours of Saturday September the 13th, now more than three weeks ago. The police have received thousands of tips, and to each one of you who made the effort to call in with information, we express our heartfelt thanks. We also thank all of you who have actively searched your properties and reported the results to the police. However, despite all your efforts, Hannah is still missing.

Somebody listening to me today either knows where Hannah is, or knows someone who has that information. We appeal to you to come forward and tell us where Hannah can be found. John has already said that this is every parent's worst nightmare. That is true, but it is also a nightmare for our son, James, for Hannah's grandparents and other members of our family, as well as for all of Hannah's many friends here in Charlottesville and beyond. Please, please, please help end this nightmare for all of us. Please help us to bring Hannah home.

Thank you."

Mom of Murdered Girl Warns of 'Serial Predator' as Hannah Graham Search Goes On

"For the past five years I have been saying, 'There's a predator out there. A serial predator. Everybody be careful. Look out for one another. Participate in your community. Know your neighbors,' " says Harrington, 57, who, with her husband, Dan Harrington, founded Help Save the Next Girl, a nationwide non-profit aimed at trying to prevent crimes against young women by promoting personal safety.

"I have been saying this is a local predator who is hiding in plain sight in your town," she says. "This is not a drifter. This is somebody who is eating at McDonald's and putting gas in his car. He is here among you. He doesn't look like a monster and that’s why he's blending in."

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

Police are filling in vital gaps of information about where Jesse Matthew was the weekend of Hannah Graham's disappearance. At the same time, search teams continue to comb through areas in Albemarle County farther from Charlottesville.

Police Questioned Jesse Matthew After Morgan Harrington's Disappearance in 2009
Friday, Oct 10, 2014

The prime suspect in the September 2014 disappearance of U.Va. student Hannah Graham had been interviewed by police five years ago in connection with another missing young woman, NBC29 in Charlottesville, Virginia, reported Thursday.

Matthew had worked as a cab driver in the Charlottesville area the night Harrington vanished, according to NBC29's Henry Graff. Two weeks ago, as the search for Graham intensified to areas outside Charlottesville, police found Matthew's abandoned cab on a farm.
Following Harrington's disappearance in 2009, police had interviewed dozens of cab drivers, including Matthew.

"According to the Virginia State Police case agent for the Morgan Harrington investigation, Jesse L. Matthew Jr. was never interviewed by local, state or federal law enforcement in 2009 after or in connection with Miss Harrington’s disappearance," state police said in a statement. "There is no record in the case file of any such interview ever having taken place."

A cab driver said a Charlottesville detective told him Harrington had gotten into a taxi the night she vanished, according to NBC29.

That didn’t stop the host of the show I was on from using those reports to draw an even more shocking—and utterly baseless—conclusion: that police have always known Morgan got into a cab driven by Matthew that night, but were somehow so bumbling that they let him get away. This is patently false, a statement released by Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller late last night attempted to set the record straight.

“Jesse L. Matthew Jr. was never interviewed in 2009 by state police in connection with the Morgan Harrington investigation,” she wrote, urging media to wait for official confirmation on such information before releasing it to the public. “The Harrington family and public deserve accurate representation of the facts of this case,” she wrote.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller initially declined to comment, but later released a statement saying in part that “inaccurate information was released today by certain media outlets citing unnamed ‘sources’ regarding the Morgan Harrington investigation. Jesse L. Matthew Jr. was never interviewed in 2009 by state police in connection with the Morgan Harrington investigation.”

[...]

“Release of information from anyone other than the Virginia State Police concerning this case is not official nor factually confirmed,” Geller said. “The Harrington family and public deserve accurate representation of the facts of this case. State police will release new information at a time and in a manner that does not jeopardize the integrity of this ongoing, complex criminal investigation.”

Search for Hannah Graham continues one month after she disappeared

(CNN) -- It has been one month since Hannah Graham, a student at the University of Virginia, was last seen and her parents are asking for help.

"It is heartbreaking for us that the person or persons who know where Hannah is have not come forward with that information. It is within their power both to end this nightmare for all," Hannah's parents, John and Sue Graham, said Monday.

"The search for Hannah is currently in a transition stage," Eggeman said on Friday.

The city of Charlottesville will be in charge as of Monday, taking over from the Department of Emergency Management, with a different focus and change in strategy

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) - Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo says they've covered a lot of ground looking for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham but he wants to do even more. Thursday he took us along on a search in a heavily wooded residential neighborhood in Albemarle County, showing us what trained searchers look for when on the hunt.

Longo says he will not stop searching for Graham, who has been missing since September 13, even if he is criticized for it. He is addressing the critics head-on, telling those who say he is wasting time and resources that he will honor the commitment he made on day one of the investigation.

Morgan Harrington’s parents open up about being members of ‘Murdered Child’s Club’
Posted 12:05 pm, October 17, 2014, by CNN Money, Updated at 12:09pm, October 17, 2014

ROANOKE, Virginia — On this day five years ago, Dan and Gil Harrington became members of a club they never wanted to join and one they can never quit. The dues are more than steep. They are crushing. And yet, membership in this club grows. The Harringtons belong to the Murdered Child’s Club.

[...]
Ironically, and many fear tragically, the disappearance almost five weeks ago of another young woman, University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, has offered the most promising lead yet. On September 24, a patient technician at the University of Virginia Medical Center was charged with abducting Graham with an intent to defile. Police say DNA now links that man, Jesse L. Matthew Jr., 32, to Morgan’s death. No charges in that case have been filed. In a statement, Matthew’s lawyer, James L. Camblos III, said he has “not been provided with any evidence that links (Matthew) to either” the Graham or Harrington cases.

Although the developments may turn out to be the break the Harringtons have longed for, it is not one they are celebrating. “Our feeling is not joy,” Morgan’s mother says. “There is another missing girl, and we have tried really hard to prevent that.”

[...]
He brings up her cell phone account. “I hate AT&T but they will always have our business,” he laughs. He then tears up after calling her number and listening to the lilting voice on her message.

Hi guys. This is Morgan. I can’t talk just now but if you leave me a message, I’ll call you as soon as I can.

“She always says that she’ll get back to us but she never does,” says her mom, 57, who has her own way of staying connected. Gil has taken to using the hand lotion in Morgan’s bathroom sparingly. “I like to use it because Morgan’s hands touched it but it’s almost done. The stuff of Morgan, and the things that ran through her hands, are fewer and fewer in our lives. The ones that are there we like a lot. We find comfort in them.”

Family of Morgan Harrington urges vigilance in search for Hannah Graham

The ceremony will be different from the ones of the past few years. There’s now a man behind bars who has been linked to the investigation into Morgan’s death. But there is also another girl — Hannah Graham — who may have been abducted by that man. And she is still missing.

And the Harringtons know how important it is that she be found.

Gil Harrington is aware that it sounds crazy, but the truth, she says, is that “it’s worse to have your daughter missing than to know that she’s dead.”
