'James Edwards “Scooter” Byrd was shot and killed in his home in King and Queen County on August 16, 2016.
During a press conference on Wednesday, August 14, the FBI Richmond Field Office and the King and Queen County Sheriff’s office announced a $10,000 reward for information that leads to his murder being solved''.
''A few weeks after Scooter’s death, Sheriff Balderson said a handgun was recovered in Richmond that matched evidence collected at the crime scene. He said that, because of advancements in forensic technology, some progress has been made in re-testing it and gathering new evidence.
“We are able to download [data from] Scooter’s cell phone,” Balderson said. “Scientists at the FBI lab are doing comparative tests of DNA from the handgun to DNA were collected from several suspects at the beginning of this year. We’re anxiously awaiting those results.”
