They're falling like dominoes now! I was so excited to see some more news when I searched.

I have to say, LE is a great (and positive) surprise to me in this case. Back when I lived in PG county, LE was widely regarded as both inept and corrupt. I hope their great job in Lenny's case here is indicative of lots of good change since then!

Chasing.halos that is awesome that you will be tutoring the little ones! I wish I could send you my five year old for some practice, because I'm out of patience with the lil guy  I keep trying to work with him on reading, but so far he's the only one of my four who looks like he will start Kgarten not knowing how to read! He just isn't interested, would rather spend hours building elaborate things out of Legos lol!

Keep 'em coming!

Second arrest made in Lenny Harris murder

Ivan Newman, 20, was arrested in Charles County and charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery.

http://www.wtop.com/?nid=58&sid=2729464

Like Johnson, Newman has a minor criminal record. In April, he was charged with fourth-degree sex offense for having consensual sex with a 15-year-old, then taking a laptop from her home. That case is ongoing. He also has an ongoing theft case in Charles County.

Police have not elaborated on the role they think each suspect played in the crime, and they said they are still looking to charge at least one other person.

Crimes like this chap my a#$. A wonderful and productive member of society taken too soon by low life's. RIP Lenny. I wish I could have known you.

I put his name in here, and found his record... Not many cases there: an assault, a fourth degree sexual assault (post article mentions this), and a theft under $100 from this month.

Wow, Linwood is 49 iirc? And this guy is 20. I must be living in a different world because I don't know too many 49 yr olds that hang out with 20 year olds. Wonder what their connection was.

This still steams me. :furious: This is the kind of stuff that makes me wish we still had public hangings. I best not say more or I'll find myself with a vacation from WS courtesy of the mods.

You and me both. I want to do something in Lenny's name. Something in his honor here in my neighborhood. I'm just not sure what. We could use so many more Lenny's in the world and these 4 :censored: . I gotta stop before I get that time out I don't want.

BBM. I had to reply. My 9 yr old has straight A's and he didn't learn how to read until 1st grade. Now he is reading well past his grade level. It will happen when your little guy is ready. Let him play away with those lego's. Mine loves them too and scored very high on the non verbal cognat area of the Iowa tests. The legos' could be teaching his mind to think in other ways. :)

Sorry about the OT, had to share.

As Cubby noted, the age difference between the two suspects is huge - and I, too, wonder what their relationship is. Seeing the age of the younger man, I wonder if this was a robbery gone bad after all? Evidently the older man did not pull the trigger, according to reports. Perhaps the younger man (or someone else not yet apprehended) got 'out of control' and made a careless quick decision?

IDK what to think. I just hate to think that someone Lenny had helped had a role in planning his murder.

It's an absolutely gorgeous (and cold) day here in DC. And my heart is so heavy. Lenny's funeral. Susan Powell's precious boys.

I just arrived at work, a mile or so from where Lenny's service will be. On the way over, which takes me over the Wilson Bridge, I was thinking of Lenny and how much he did, and how it has inspired me to try to get involved in some sort of community service - not just to honor Lenny but also because I've always wanted to. But I'm more of a dreamer, not a doer. But I'm going to "do" now. I was pondering how i could get involved (adult literacy is so important to me, for example), when Freebird came on my iPod. With the first line, "if I leave here tomorrow, will you still remember me?", the tears just started flowing. I know the song is about something completely different but I was thinking of Lenny. When the "free as a bird now" and "fly freebird" lyrics came around, a seagull flew over. Then another, and another, until there were about a dozen. Accompanied by the music, it was just beautiful...

Alexandrians, Others Remember Lenny Harris

Hundreds of people gather at the Charles Houston Rec Center to pay tribute to the beloved community activist.

----------

City Councilwoman Del Pepper said Harris’s disappearance and news of his death was something the entire city followed intently, no matter what end of town they lived on.

“This really is a painful experience for the whole city,” Pepper said. “I’ll remember the fact that he was somebody who understood the value of deeds large and small. He loved this community, he loved his neighborhood and he really loved this rec center. … He made such a difference.”

Lenny Harris murder: Third person to be arrested in activist's murder
By Brad Bell February 6, 2012 - 02:16 pm

Prince George’s County Police will announce Monday that they're obtained a warrant for the arrest of a third suspect in the murder of activist Lenny Harris.
--------
The suspect is Tyrone Lewis, 26, of Fort Washington. Police believe Lewis is the tattooed man caught on a security camera using Harris’ ATM card hours after Harris disappeared last fall. They also believe he is the mastermind of the murder.
-------
Lewis has been in custody in Alexandria since last October on an unrelated car theft charge. He was secretly identified by police early on in the investigation of Harris’ disappearance based on cell phone records which showed Lewis and Harris spoke just before Harris was abducted.

http://www.wjla.com/articles/2012/0...o-be-arrested-in-activist-s-murder-72281.html

ETA: The article above is short and I quoted quite a bit, but evidently they needed more evidence to charge Tyrone Lewis with the appropriate crimes. The case against him had stalled until the anonymous tipster called in. THANK YOU, TIPSTER!!!!!!

They thought Lenny would have money so they targeted him for a robbery. It may have to do with one of his recent festivals he held - they may have thought he had access to the money that he had raised. :(

Oh wow. So Lewis is likely the person whom Lenny spoke with, saying he had to go somewhere, and was never seen again. (At least that is how I am interpreting the info in the article Belimom posted above.)

Also from the article Beli' posted above:

Lewis lived in the neighborhood where Harris’ body was disposed of in a well on the property of an abandoned home.

All such a shame, what is wrong with people these days? And what the heck was a 49 yr old doing hanging around with two people in their 20's?

So the perps are 49, 20 and 26. I wonder if Linwood 'posed' as the older guy looking out for the younger generation, similiarly to how Lenny did.

Sick, all very sick. I am glad these three, who don't deserve to breath the same air we do, will be off the streets forever. I'll bet there is forensic evidence from Lewis at the crime scene. I wonder if he was ever able to break into the house. He didn't stumble onto that well accidently. He had to have spent time, lots of time at the property, prior to Lenny's disappearance and murder.

Third suspect charged as hundreds remember slain activist Lenny Harris

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local...nny-harris/2012/02/06/gIQAkHpHvQ_story_1.html

This article has more information on the criminal past of the 3rd suspect who has now been charged.

While I'm so thankful that LE is charging this 3rd person, I really wish they had waited until today to announce it. IMO, yesterday should have been about Lenny and remembering/honoring him. I'm saying this as a complete outsider to the situation but I know that the thoughts I posted about (on my way to work yesterday, etc) came to an abrupt halt and switched gears to focus on this 3rd person. KWIM? Just a thought I had.
