From the article: "After being at the Manassas Park Police Department for hours, we found Bhatt's husband, Naresh Bhatt. "I am suffering through a lot," Bhatt told WUSA9. Bhatt did not want to go into detail about the case but told WUSA9 that he was calling on the community to help him bring his wife home. "

Hubby didn't want to go into details with the media. Not quite the same as "doesn't want to discuss" with the police.
I wish I could take the above post back. Looks like the husband murdered Mamta. How a husband could do something like this to his wife is beyond me. I hope he is locked up forever.

Basnet Thapa has been more than a former colleague and mentor to Kafle Bhatt – she’s been her “didi” or “di” – her “sister,” in South Asian culture. The pair met last June and quickly became close, Basnet Thapa told CNN on Monday.

Even though the two women worked opposite schedules, Kafle Bhatt would make sure Basnet Thapa was fed – often bringing her breakfast or lunch.

Then last February, Kafle Bhatt mentioned she was in a domestic violence situation with her husband, Basnet Thapa told CNN.

“I gave all the resources, I told her leave that house immediately, I offered my home to come, or go to shelter, I offered all help,” Basnet Thapa said.

But later on, “she sent me a message saying, ‘Di, I’m gonna go to family counselor, and wanted to give him one chance. And I realized how much I love him and I want to give him a chance, hoping he could be a better father, better person. Just I did not want to put him in problem.’ That’s what she said to me.”

Bhatt’s court-appointed counsel argued in court Friday his client should be released on bond, saying there’s “no evidence” Bhatt did anything wrong, according to Inside NoVa. “They actually haven’t released a shred of evidence that he did anything wrong,” said the attorney, whom the publication did not name. “He has no violent history … he has no allegations of abuse.”

No evidence other than internet searches on when he can remarry once she is dead, lying about his wife”s location after she went missing, a large volume of her blood in his bedroom and bathroom, drag marks and purchases of now missing knives and cleaning supplies but who’s counting.

Bhatt, a former U.S. Army Reserve automated logistics specialist, is now being held without bail, according to WJLA.

According to the prosecutor, investigators collaborated with the Secret Service upon Mamta’s disappearance. Naresh Bhatt, a former federal employee of defense contractor General Dynamics as of earlier this year, performed several suspicious Google searches on his work laptop in April, prosecutors revealed in court.

Sami read two of the Google searches verbatim as follows: “how long does take to get married after spouse dies” and “what happen in the event of dying spouse.”

Naresh Bhatt’s defense attorney, Shalev Ben-Avraham, repeatedly characterized the amounts of blood found in the Bhatt home as “minuscule,” claiming that the prosecution suffered from insufficient evidence in the case.

“That’s maybe a nosebleed,” Ben-Avraham said, adding that the Bhatt case has been buoyed by a “news media frenzy” that pressured Manassas Park Police Chief Mario Lugo to issue search warrants in the case.

Here’s what we know about Naresh Bhatt.

Bhatt is a 37-year-old Indian-American....

Naresh Bhatt was an automated logistics specialist (92A) in the Army Reserve from June 2017 to February 2024. He had no deployments and Army Public Affairs said he left the Army with the rank of specialist.

Bhatt was hired as a police recruit and was dismissed from the department after 22 days at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy.

He began his employment with the Department on June 22, 2020.

He was onboarded ahead of academy commencement. On Oct. 26, 2020, Bhatt transitioned to a police recruit but was unsuccessful in fulfilling the requirements of his role and was subsequently dismissed from the Department on Nov. 16, 2020, the Fairfax County Police Department tells FOX 5.

Bhatt has ties to the U.S. Secret Service and has security clearance according to his defense.
I'm wondering if, on top of everything else, he was in financial trouble. My quick google search tells me that Army specialists aren't raking in the dough. His employment has been sporadic, it seems. Even if he made a good salary, it doesn't seem particularly steady. Mamta likely made a decent wage as a nurse, but was it enough to support them in that area? Financial stress can be a trigger for men to destroy their lives.

I think the situations might have been a trifecta of
* Contentious marriage w/ traditional-practices conflict and MIL conflict
* Financial issues
* He's an abuser and she was trying to leave him

jmopinion at the moment

Just caught up on this entire thread - Firstly, RIP Mamta.

Women in countries alone are so vulnerable when trying to flee a domestic violence situation as they have no family to turn to for support (I know Mamta had many wonderful work friends but you don’t want to be a ‘burden’ on them for long as they have their own lives)

I’d like to know if Mamtas family knew her husbands family prior to setting up the arranged marriage - from my experience in this field most of the time the families know each other prior to setting this up.

I usually agree that the best place for a child is with their biological family - however, I’d have a slight fear over this in this case as due to the families culture you could essentially be setting up the young daughter for an arranged marriage in the future.

Cases like this just shock me - I often wonder how he thought he’d get away with this - it was obvious from page 1 of this thread that he had involvement.

I’d also like to know if the mother in laws movements have been accounted for in all this - was she still staying with them? From articles further up thread it sounds like she was horrible to Mamta so I’d like her movements on these days to be accounted for so we can discount her as being anyway involved - MOO.
Upthread there is an article that goes into the background of the marriage, it was not arranged, and his family was unknown to hers. They appear to have met online. MOOO.

Right???? Nothing to see here. Makes me ill

I think the second search contained the word DEBT.

His employment seemed sporadic, even though he had a lot of IT certificates. I am guessing he came off as off or had conflicts, perhaps, MOOO.

During the hearing, a clip was played in court featuring Amy Ashworth, the Commonwealth Attorney for Prince William County, who spoke to reporters last week and responded to a question that asked if Mamta was alive or dead. "We don’t know. We don’t know. But we are working this investigation. We are working carefully and there’s just a lot of things moving very quickly right now. There’s nothing else I can say," Ashworth stated.

Bhatt’s defense attorney contended that the discovery of blood alone is insufficient evidence for the charge, suggesting that media frenzy and pressure on Manassas Park authorities led to premature charges. The prosecutor, however, elaborated on the blood evidence, explaining that crime scene investigators used technology to detect blood not visible to the naked eye.
