he also noted that 23-year-old Vandenburg had community support and seemed remorseful.

ugh.

Football fans and his parents. Apparently during this hearing the prosecution played a tape of one of the witnesses saying that Brandon had (allegedly) tried this drugging thing before in high school...some drug he said his father gave him, saying (allegedly) that "it would help loosen a girl up."

The judge was schnookered. The only remorse this sociopath has is that he got caught. I hope he stays in for the full 17 years.

A just ending to a bad situation.
:D

In a jailhouse phone conversation with family, Brandon Vandenburg discussed his situation, and said the following: "I don't even understand it. It doesn't even make sense when I think about it. Gosh. I can't believe I'm in this right now. Yup, I have yet to find out the reason. I keep asking myself that."

What a clueless he is.

Also, in his statement before sentencing, Vandenburg said he is an inexperienced drinker who was away from home for the first time, and was just trying to fit in. Vandenburg mentioned he had consumed 40 alcoholic drinks that day, severely impairing his judgement. LOL.. pure balderdash! If you watch the dorm surveillance footage, it's obvious Vandenburg wasn't very impaired, if at all. And 40 alcoholic drinks would be enough to put even Paul Bunyan in a twilight zone. The whole "alcohol is the true culprit" excuse is lame as hell. Corey Bates exploited that excuse too. Truly sickening.

Yes, I've always suspected that Vandenburg drugged the victim. According to her testimony, she had one drink before leaving home, and 3 drinks at the bar. Then Vandenburg handed her a blue drink, saying it was the best thing ever. She only took a few sips before feeling woozy, and didn't drink anymore. IMO, it's unlikely that someone would pass out for several hours after 4 drinks. There had to be more to it. Vandenburg even assured his teammates (rape mates) that she "would not wake up."

Here's what's doubly atrocious: Afterwards Vandenburg played upon the victim's trust. He told the victim that he took care of her because she got very sick and passed out. In other words, he was her knight in shining armor. In reality, he's a full-on .

I agree, the judge got schnookered. One good thing: In Tennessee, a rape conviction carries a full sentence.. 100%.

Well that's good (full sentence). I was concerned he'd be out in less than 10 years. He made himself the victim, that was clear the whole way through the case. If his father is really the one who gave him the 'roofies' when he was in high school, that tells you where he learned this behavior. I hope his 17 years in prison leads him to more prison time (ala Robert Chambers, the preppy killer). [Vandenburg] reminds me of Chambers.

Cory Batey returns to court, hearing in Vanderbilt rape case delayed

April 11, 2017

A hearing was scheduled for Tuesday so Batey's lawyer, Peter Strianse, could argue that Batey should get a new trial.

[...]

Strianse, who was hired after Batey's April 2016 trial, said he needed more time to prepare. Assistant District Attorney General Roger Moore did not object, and Criminal Court Judge Monte Watkins granted the request.

Strianse is expected to file a revised motion by May 26, with a subsequent hearing to be scheduled.

Vandenburg, who had dated the victim, was convicted in a separate trial in June and was later sentenced to 17 years in the rape. A hearing in his case to discuss a motion for new trial is set for Sept. 5.
