Chesterfield, Virginia investigators say a man charged with drug offences may have left the state - or even the country - after putting his GPS device on his cat.

Diego Martinez-Espinoza had even sent a photo of himself wearing it, to reassure authorities after they received tamper alerts. March 1 though, the device went silent. When his landlord checked his apartment only the cat was there, reluctantly wearing the GPS.

The recently revealed documents don't say how long the cat was shut up alone but it has survived. It probably spent days being irritated by the device chirping as it alerted Espinoza to check in.

Just to make things more bizarre, Espinoza was originally arrested for having 10kg of cocaine hydrochloride hidden in his dryer.

He prolly stole the cat too! Animal cruelty should now be added. Poor little kitty. Hope it recovers.
