<modsnip>I was on 58th every morning after she went missing. Very low traffic volume until about 8 when the carpool lot filled up.

I was responding to this question at the time:

You have been there, and you are from there, so you know that the roads were not empty at 7:10am, and that there was commuter traffic. I still stand by what I stated about traffic in MLT.

It's homicide, and they can't admit it. She disappeared too close to their PD Department.

I 'thanked' your post before seeing who wrote it. Oh my goodness, stryker57. I am SO sorry. I think there's a lot of us here who are with you. I wish there was something I, we, could do for you and your dad and all who loved your mom. I'm so sorry. :(

I think you may be right, Stryker This must be so frustrating for you and your family. I'm sorry you're going through this.
I don't understand how someone can be found with a bag over their head in a culvert and they say that there is nothing to indicate it was a homicide. Really?? Nothing?

I sincerely hope they continue to investigate her death as a homicide. Suicide is just hard to believe in this instance.

Stryker57 I completely agree. Mountlake Terrace is very small. I've lived near there for 25 years. Now there seems to be a definite decline. Street crimes and street people are commiting crimes within blocks of that police station. WTH? This would be unheard of if meth didn't make people stupid and those boys weren't so busy pulling me over for speeding.

Can someone comment on this…
I understand she died of asphyxia and fresh water drowning.

Is it possible that whoever did this to her knew her?
I remember watching a tv program a few years back that mentioned that the face of the deceased was covered when the deceased was known to the killer.

IMOO.

It definitely seems like a homicide. I've been 100% opposed to the idea of suicide from the beginning for various reasons. To read that police have no reason to investigate as a homicide does not mean that it is not a homicide, but rather that they have no evidence of homicide other than the fact that there is a happy, healthy, well-balanced, full employed successful woman in a ditch with a plastic bag over her head. I hope that police continue to investigate.

I walk on/across 58th right there every single day at that time and there is rarely more than 1 if any cars.

Something else to consider regarding a suicide theory. The police could already have the computer forensics results back and not releasing them. There may be searches/cookies/history indicating research on suicide.

I'm still undecided on what actually took place, probably at 50/50 with it going either way.

Where's her purse and her phone?

Wouldn't she just leave those items in her car if she was going to walk off somewhere? Her car was seen at 8am.

IMOO.

That's still not "empty roads." I really am sorry to be a stickler about it. I believe we were also discussing all of Cheryl's route, and not just 58th, earlier in that line of discussion.

I am so sorry Cheryl... And I too am so mad! In this day and age they can't determine if this lady died from drowning OR of asphyxiation from a plastic bag over her bead? And can't have a clue if it was homicide or a suicide? Oh my! And they are still with the same 'we are looking at phone and computer records'! What have they been doing more than one month? And now they say that there is nothing to point to homicide? Really? I don't believe this was a suicide and I am very disappointed with the way this crime has been treated by this LE.
Now let me tell you, while I don't believe this was a suicide, several years ago a man comited suicide in my home town taking some pills and tying a plastic bag around his head. He had a store and the business was really bad and he had a lot of debt. One night he went to the store and did it. He left a letter to his wife and children. At the time I had never heard of this way of suicide anx never heard of it again. Only that business man's case.
I am so frustrated about Cheryl's death! Are they prepared to rule it as 'indetermined'? Is it possible with so many ways and tecnics to help the investigations nowadays? And the autopsy? How can they say a person died from asphyxiation AND drowning?!

Justice for Cheryl :rose:

I wonder if all the storm drains in the area have been searched? Would all of the rainfall around that time already flushed any items to wherever the drains dump out to?

It's very easy to casually drop things and kick them down the drains. When I used to partake in drugs I disposed of some that way when approached by police. Only takes a second or two and not noticeable if you're playing it cool.

I would.like to know how long they think she was in the culvert.

"The cause of death is asphyxia due to plastic bag over head and freshwater drowning. The manner of death is Undetermined."

RSBM.
I understand your frustration.
I too had never heard of this method of suicide until I read about it in a case here at WS. 'Christmas Tree Lady' who is a UID chose to end her life this way. Through reading that thread I learned that there is at least one book that goes into detail about how to do this way and websites now too. I believe the book was published around 20 years ago.

I'm not clear yet whether Cheryl's toxicology results are back?

Could be anywhere.
Esp if she was walking around. We do not know when she ended up in the culvert.

Snipped.

I noticed the same thing. The articles I've been reading that came out today haven't mentioned tox results at all. Just waiting on computer/phone/other results.
