Schrock said the boy's parents and several witnesses were transported to the Federal Way Police Department for interviews and then released. The boy's father was then taken into police custody on Tuesday afternoon for further questioning

Remember when babies used to be born acting like babies? I swear some are born as toddlers these days.

I just had to comment on this.
Here's the thing.
I FIRMLY believe that so many children are abused because people EXPECT TOO MUCH from their infants.
They expect them to sleep through the night early and to go down for naps when THEY say... right from the beginning. (huge reason for abuse). Other things I see parents expect?
They expect them to sit up early, crawl and walk early. Hold their own bottle early.
They also expect infants to not cry when they are hungry, dirty or tired. Or tired. Infants are known for crying for no reason at all.

Babies are BABIES. I try to tell people... your baby is a baby and will develop according to his or her own pace. Most babies start crawling somewhere around 8 months of age. Please, do not have unrealistic expectations.

Another time when children are at at a high risk for abuse? Toilet training. People have UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS, causing overwhelming frusteration for the caregiver. People run around saying "my baby was fully potty trained at 18 months." I'm sorry, but BS. That is a parent who is qued into their infants toileting signs... straining, whatever. Full toilet control is not usually attainted until YEARS later. And then other parents expect their child to be trained like a friend, brother, sister, grandma, etc told them... and they get upset, and take it out on the child. Unfair to the child.

Not trying to argumentative, but I just wanted to say that all of my kids were going to the potty by that age on their own except for JJ, without prompting. My oldest was using the potty at 14 months old.

O/T alert!! lol

Sooooo, anything new? No news conference today? Surely they have to know something by now.

Oh, I'm the last one to talk about going off-topic, tpp!!! :blushing: :blowkiss: :D

My bet is the dad is lying. He killed the baby with no remorse nor guilt. Sickpos.

Police have arrested the father of the 7-month-old baby who burned to death after falling into a fire pit.

Investigators took the boy's 37-year-old Alberto Rios in for further questioning on Tuesday afternoon, then later placed him under arrest at 4:45 p.m. (more at link)

Police declined to say how far the bench was from the fire pit, which they described as a hole dug in the backyard.
The man was arrested in 2004 on suspicion of driving with an open container of alcohol and on suspicion of negligent driving. In 2001, he was arrested on suspicion of felony harassment and two counts of fourth-degree assault, according to King County court documents. In 1995, he was charged with possession of heroin under an alias, according to court documents.

A real winner!! :woohoo:

And yet, someone still met, married and had a baby with this loser. Oh, and LOST a baby because of this loser.

Thanks for the updates.

I wonder if he crawled into the pit and could not get out. How sad. We had a pit like that in my back yard when I was a kid. My parents would burn lawn clippings in it. It became deeper with each fire. I think if there was that much drinking going on dad may have passed out and slept right through the baby's screams. So sad.

spazkat the father has been arrested so I don't think the dad was drunk and baby crawled in there on his own...

I actually do think the dad was high and/or drunk and the baby crawled in on its own and the father didn't hear. It was around midnight if I recall correctly when cops were called. The dad had fallen asleep (my opinion is he passed out) and the police got a warrant to do blood work on the dad. I think that it was a sad avoidable death caused by negligence. I believe the story that the dad woke up and realized the baby wasn't on the bench with him and ran into the house.

This is sad, sad, sad. The whole point of letting the baby sleep on your chest is so you will wake up when the baby does. Dad probably did pass out..... bad, bad, bad.

Rest in Peace little Diego,

Salem

I think the father was arrested for neglect .... Drunk or sober .. to fall asleep next to a firepit with a baby is neglectful.

I could see a month old crawling and falling in.. A 7 month old would not have a natural fear of heat and if he toppled right into the fire he may not even have cried.
