How common is it for womens clothing to be found in a tree or hung on a limb where the body is found? I happened to run onto another mention of womens clothing in a tree leading to a body being found on the opposite end of the country in January 11, 1987 and it made me wonder if this is a sort of common thing or not.
". . . On January 11, 1987, young patrons of the recreation center noticed women's clothing hanging in a tree, nearby . . ."

Great work Outofthedark, I think you're right and Cheri is perfect. I also noted Naoka Onda, a Japanese gal who looks a lot like Elma too, same weight and height and the one beneath her, Catherine Clampett. All could be her if they were ever known to have ties to the NW or been here. Oh, and do you know if the serial killer John Edward Robinson was ever in Washington?

I saw a cold case files episode on John Edward Robinson and I don't remember if they mentioned anything about him being in Washington. If I could catch it again, I'll see if they mention anything. I think they said on the same show that the cops think that J.E.R. might have more victims

Believe me, i'm still quite the skeptic too. Maybe I believe too much of what's on those TV shows I've been watching. Ya think?
There is a facial recognition database i found for scanning digitals and finding family relations through their 1000's of submitted photos contributing to a World family tree project. let me go find it again. it's an interesting read, at least.

another great site that has links for areas of research and development of Computer generated imagery and 3-D facial reconstruction. I was hoping to find links of research labs that are already using this regularly for forensics. It's still relatively new technology. I did find one source that i just put feelers out to. It looks like the Germans and the British have a head start on US. But there are still many facilities here using this technique. I would hope to find one that could assist in recreating a nicer image of Elma.

The only other scientific avenue for ELma could be a DNA cross check with the many public DNA databases that are popping up. IMO

i've gotta great used book store here in Eustis. my brother just sent me Dr Henry Lee's book too so i've got plenty to read.

OH i still need to find that website that has photo databases that you can scan in pics to compare to theirs on file and it gives you geneological background of pics in search results. like surnames and region of origin. The issue here with Elma is that we'd need to improve what we're working with. Tha's why i wanna find a digital scanner to recreate a better facial image of her. Let me do that now before i forget. I've still got to do alot of chores before family arrives but i'm devoting most of today to our two does here. as long as my pc doesn't friggin wig again.

A winter chill hangs over our cold cases. Hoping new eyes and minds will join our forum and assist in our Jane Doe's mystery. Any further information or insights and clues are also welcome.
for Elma,

Thinking about Lady Elma today, hope her name is discovered soon.

Thanks Sarah for re-naming her 'Lady Elma' instead of Elma Jane Doe.

I came here tonight after reading on a current case with some similar circumstances. It has taken me aback reading all these old and poignant posts. Reading Coldcaseman's words and then his definition of a Serial Killer.

This is a true case for a Sleuther to learn by.

I will keep that prayer always in my heart that she will be named and her killer revealed. xox

Here's a new addition to NamUs.

Nhi T. Nguyen

The metrics don't match perfectly, but based on the matching race, and timeframe, and that both cases are on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, she seems a pretty good possible for this Jane Doe.

Great potential match, CarlK.

Also wanted to mention that I really love the table comparison format - very easy to read and compare!

Just got off the phone with Janet Franson. She said that they were looking at Nhi Nguyen as a possible for "Chrissy Crystal Creek" in Wyoming.

But she wasn't aware of this Jane Doe, which is not listed in NamUs. So I gave her the DoeNet casenumber, and asked her to look into it.

If nothing else, she will be able to get this Jane Doe listed as a NamUs UP case. (She currently is not listed).

Christy or Chrissy Crystal Creek is in Missoula, Montana. She was found not far from Debbie Deer Creek who was later identified as Marcella Cheri "Marci" Bachmann. More than likely murdered by serial killer Wayne Nance

I was asked by former NamUs Regional Administrator Janet Franson and Grays Harbor Sheriff's Detective/Coroner Lane Youmans to do a recon of this Jane Doe.

There wasn't a whole lot to work with, as the skull was badly fragmented. Mr. Youmans says that he believes that the Jane Doe might be a Cambodian refugee, as she was found in an area for mushroom hunting. And at the time, there was a large transient population of Cambodian refugees, and mushroom hunting was a popular activity in that community.

All I had to work from was the left side of the skull, with no nasal aperture to give me any idea of the height width, and shape of her nose. So I had to build the missing portions using a model Asian female skull.

(Note: This depiction is based on a partial skull, and clothing and jewelry found with the body. Fine details, such as her precise hairstyle, the shape of her eyes, lips, etc. are not intended to be exact depictions.)

Nice work there Carl.

This strikes me as an ideal case for isotope testing to determine whether she was US born or a refugee from SE Asia. If the latter, I assume the US government has records of all persons brought into the country under the refugee programmes, so drawing up at least a longlist for further investigation should be possible.

The red & blue pattern printed on shirt is bamboo leaves. That would seem to fit in with the possibility that she was Cambodian, as bamboo leaves have sort of a Southeast Asian symbolism.

I remember this Unsolved Mysteries case, and IIRC, the year she went missing was 87. She was last seen with an Asian male. I cannot think of her name, but she was Asian, too
