If he lived in Burlington and worked on Whidbey, he would cross this bridge every day on the way to and from work.
Other than some people thinking the gf's comments being odd, I am curious why people are thinking this particular case is so mysterious. Suicide off Deception Pass Bridge is not unusual. Finding a car in the parking lot and never finding the body is also not unusual. If his family was publicly asking for answers or wanting to hire a PI, I would feel differently of course. I feel like if the Navy and his family are not asking for more answers, then we can probably assume they know more than we do and we should respect their privacy.
Yes, I understand staging the car there would be a good cover up. There are other documented cases even here on WS with very similar circumstances where the eventual assumption of suicide was readily accepted. Again, just curious why this case seems so different.
I couldn’t personally agree with your words more.
There are some terrifying dangers of deception pass. It’s an ultimate place of beauty to take your friends to visit. But personally the current below takes my breath away.
Personally I’d devise a different approach than jumping from that bridge however there is an estimated 250 have jumped that have been accounted for in the history of the Bridge.
Being a local for 50 years I found the information below very informative and factual and at the same time very touristy.
“...People will stop on the bridge to watch the tragedy unfold and call for help, but no one will come to your rescue because no one can...”
“...Deep currents in the pass make diving extremely treacherous, and they carry the dead away. Nothing that water can move stays in the pass, and this water can move almost anything...”
