A woman's body was found on an abandoned property in Ridgefield, WA on April 8, 2023. She was identified as JoAnna Kyrstin May Speaks, 32. She died as a likely result of blunt force trauma and police believe her body was killed elsewhere and moved to the abandoned property in the 800 block of S. 5th Street. Police are investigating this as a homicide and looking for anyone who saw her or interacted with her over the past month.

According to a page created by her family to help with funeral costs, she was the mother of three and was battling addiction. Family say in the past few weeks she was trying to get help and enter recovery. DOB: 4/28/2000. Who wants to help figure this out?

Police launch homicide investigation after Oregon woman’s body found at abandoned Ridgefield property

Thank you for starting a page for JoAnna, I see you are not 'new' but first post 'new'. I'm impressed as I've been around a while and had to ask someone else to start a thread for me today, LOL. I'm sure you will get lot's of help in this thread.

Do you know when she was reported missing?

Thanks! And nice to "meet" you! I don't think she was reported missing. Her family said she was trying to get clean so she could have a relationship with her three children. Her body was reported to Police April 8 but she was so decomposed, it took until yesterday for Ridgefield Police to identify her. This is a pretty rare case; I just moved to Ridgefield and it's a nice, peaceful place. The crime rates are low here. Reports say she was from Oregon so I don't know why she would have been up here unless she knew someone or had a reason to be here. Ridgefield is 30 minutes north of Portland. There is a new casino just north in LaCenter but there's no information that she was there.

I think this is a case we can help with.

She has a lengthy criminal history. There are some photos at this link. It looks like the last arrest or warrant was on 3/8/2023 which was only a month ago. Did she bond out or ?

Good information. I'm still learning the "citizen sleuth" ropes and didn't know of that resource.

Regardless of her history, here's the thing that really bothers me. I live .50 miles from the location where she was dumped. I drove by yesterday and there is simply NO way a person who didn't know the area would know that this particular house was abandoned. This address is bordered on both sides by almost identical houses with outbuildings, gates and trees, all set back from the road. And the other side of the street is a brand-new business park. With streetlights that are very bright.

This is NOT a well traveled street to ANYONE who doesn't live here. Who knew to put her there? And why was she up here in the first place? Ridgefield is 25-30 minutes from the Oregon border and Portland area. Whoever did this is likely a current or former local

So true. I wonder if it could be someone who works at one of those distribution centers or businesses across the street? There should be cameras on those buildings, hopefully LE can get some useful footage from them.

Found this today. She was involved in a kidnapping and attempted murder 10 years ago. What if this situation a repeat of the crimes 10 years ago with a different outcome for JoAnna?

This case is getting some traction and you were right @MultitaskingMom Homicide
Joanna Speaks, 32, was found in Ridgefield, Washington on April 8, with authorities suggesting her body had been 'moved' there.

She'd been killed by blunt force trauma to her head and neck, with her death being ruled a homicide.
The county sheriff's office was investigating her death as a homicide.

Joanna Speaks, 32, was found dead near 8004 S. 5th St. in Ridgefield, a city about 22 miles north of Portland, shortly before 6 p.m. April 8, the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office announced last week.

The sheriff’s office said that “there are indications the body was moved to this location.” No other details have been released about the circumstances of the body, the sheriff’s office said, and no suspects have been publicly identified.

Speaks' older sister, Robyn Speaks, told NBC affiliate KGW of Portland that her sister's death "just doesn’t make sense.”

They found 6 women – most with connections to the greater Portland area and all under the age of 40 – have been found dead within 100 miles of each other the past three months – most in wooded or secluded rural areas. Joanna Speaks being one of the 6.

April 8: JoAnna Speaks, 32, of Oregon

Police and firefighters in Clark County found Speaks dead inside a barn on April 8 at an abandoned property in Ridgefield, Washington, about 22 miles north of Portland. Officials responded just before 6 p.m. to a report of a dead person at the property near the 800 block of South 5th Street in Ridgefield.

The county medical examiner determined Speaks died of blunt head and neck injuries.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death as a homicide and said Speaks’ body was moved to the location where it was found.

I've been following the web-sleuth posts for all of the missing/deceased women in the Portland area recently, and there's something that's starting to bother me a little bit.

Why are people bringing up crimes the victim committed 10 years ago to justify her being murdered. I am a recovering addict, clean and sober since December 18, 1993. I did some questionable things in the depths of my addiction. I have changed my life and have done everything I can to leave my past behind me. I don't hide it, it just doesn't define me. Because of my history, would that be a cause for someone to murder me now? NO!

People need to stop focusing on her criminal record from 10 years ago and focus on what happened to her from the day her family lost contact with her forward. Someone, somewhere, saw SOMETHING! But here's the thing - those people aren't going to come forward to the police because they are afraid if they do, they will be the prime suspect because of their addictions/past.

It is for these very reasons why people who battle addiction, have a history of prostitution, are homeless, or have a criminal record are referred to in the law enforcement and psychological field as "less than dead." Because when they disappear or die, it's not easy to find out what happened to them because the very people who have any information are the same people who are potential victims of the same crimes.

its not that all or any of us are justifying anything. i for one dont judge anyone. it is more to understand how the encountered the killer for me. if we know his MO then theres a chance at finding him.

This site actually goes above and beyond to be victim-friendly; moderators work hard to ensure a post is deleted if it even hints at blaming a victim. You will also find that there is a virtual army of people here advocating for the lost, missing, murdered, mistreated, etc. -- this site exists because we all see the value of every victim regardless of that person's past actions.

Most crimes don't happen in a vacuum, and as a result it's necessary to look at all of the pieces to see how they fit in order to arrive at some credible conclusion. It would be a shame to pretend someone's past doesn't exist and then find out that it held all of the keys to solving the crime.

MOO.

Recent reports have tied Jonna Speaks to the open-air fentanyl market that has been operating on SE 82nd Ave in Portland.

Note that it is quick 30-min trip up I-205 and on to I-5 to get to 8004 S 5th St in Ridgefield, WA, from SE 82nd Ave. Here you might want to compare this to the 33-min trip to the final resting spot of Chasity Lynn Perry. Please check the thread on her case here at websleuths. While, we are at it, how about the 27-min trip from SE 82nd Ave to the final resting spot of Ashley Real at 12895 SE Judd Rd. Please see her thread here at websleuths on why that address is important.

Are we the only ones seeing a pattern here?

Is that the correct address where AR was found?

That’s different than what I’ve read, correct road but address around 29000 is what I saw.

Also do you (or does anyone) know roughly where along 82nd this fentanyl market is?

I know where the one downtown is, but I hadn’t heard of the one on 82nd.
