Search yields no signs of student

The family of missing University of Washington student Marizela Perez searched Seattle's Discovery Park Wednesday with dogs in what family called a recovery operation, but they found no sign of Perez.

[snip]

Search dogs found clothing about midday Wednesday, but it did not match what was worn by the missing student and appeared to have been there for a long time, one officer said.

I think the family has reason to believe Marizela may have gone to a park the day see disappeared. Apparently before she disappeared, she used her phone to search for park hours. I had not heard this info until yesterday after a comment was left about it after a Seattle Times article regarding the search. I know in the recent weeks her family has been searching other parks in Seattle, which makes me wonder if she had searches on her phone for other parks as well.

The Northern Alliance Radio Network will be on the air today, with your hosts Mitch Berg and Ed Morrissey, on from 1-3 CT with live streaming video and chat. If you’re in the Twin Cities, you can hear us on AM 1280 The Patriot, or on the station’s Internet stream if you’re outside of the broadcast area, as well as right here on on the permanent Ed Morrissey Show page at Hot Air.

We’ll also cover the the case of Marizela Perez, who has been missing in the Seattle area for over a month. Marizela’s case has a connection here at Hot Air, as she is the cousin of the Boss Emeritus, Michelle Malkin. Michelle is trying to spread the word through Facebook and Q13Fox/KCPQ in Seattle. We want to encourage prayers for Marizela’s family, and also try to reach anyone in the area who knows where Marizela might be and ask them to contact the police.

The search has its own website now, Find Marizela, for the latest in the efforts to bring Marizela home. There is also a fund for the family to keep the search efforts going. Be sure to check there and at Michelle’s site for further developments, and keep the family in your prayers.

Michelle has a new update this week:

For Seattle-area readers, Marizela’s friends are holding a benefit concert and fundraiser in May to support the family’s continuing search efforts.

More info here.

Thank you so much for your continued thoughts and prayers!

America’s Most Wanted is now on the case, too.

Bumping for Marizela. Has anyone heard any new news?

Also, saw this today... Probably/hopefully not a possibility (?), but it did put her back in my thoughts.

Woman's Body Recovered from Green River:

Updated today -- The body was identified as an elderly local woman from Auburn who is believed to have drowned 3 weeks ago. How terrible!

My Prayers go out to the family. I understand how hard a time this is and try to look on the bright side the fact that no remains have been found can indicate that she is still alive and a positive outcome may lay ahead!

I like to see that the news still mentions Marizela occasionally! I hope someone somewhere sees her face on the media and remembers something that will lead to her...

Hooser13 - I love your positive outlook! I also have strong hopes that she will be found alive. I'm also praying that now that the weather here in the PNW is finally getting nice, all of the hikers and park-goers will keep a watchful eye and that something will be found, either for Marizela, or any of the other missing persons in this area.

From the above referenced article (thanks, SassyBenton!)

Her parents said police told them that Marizela bought orange juice, trash bags, Tylenol and an over-the-counter sleeping aid from the Safeway at around 2:20 p.m.

My question is this:

If she was going to meet friends on campus to study, why would she purchase such items? It seems like if she needed to pick up a few household items she would do it on her way home instead of having to carry them around in her backpack all day. Of course it’s no biggie to carry around a couple of pill bottles, but packages of garbage bags can often be quite heavy.

I would also like to know if she took sleeping pills on a regular basis or was this purchase out-of-the-ordinary for her? I hope she’s okay but I have a bad feeling after hearing the items she purchased before disappearing.

No one knows what happened to Marizela Perez

Three months after Seattle disappearance, friends and family say the search has hit a dead end

It’s been more than three months since the disappearance of Marizela Perez, a 2010 graduate of Egg Harbor Township High School and a freshman at the University of Washington who went missing in Seattle, and still there are no leads in the case. Her friends and family say they have hit a dead end in their search.

I’m a local and the speculation around here is that Mariezela may have harmed herself but the location has not been found. She just went through a breakup and has tried to harm herself before. There were other items purchased at the Safeway that the family does not wish to make public and many think she was making a “suicide kit.” Very, very sad.

I'm putting this link here, although it's an article from over a month ago. I think the above link that was to an article in the Seattle area paper that no longer appears. I got this link from a search engine.

Anyway, it is a pretty indepth article. It appears this poor thing may have taken her own life. But,...............maybe not. Let's hope someone sees her, or finds her, and lets the family know where she is. I think the worst part is the unknown.

Where is Marizela Perez? Families frustrated when loved ones vanish

Perhaps Marizela Perez is hiding out somewhere, gathering the courage to tell her parents she dropped out of chemistry, switched her major to art and got a tattoo.

At least that's what her parents hope.

The alternatives, say Jasmin and Edgar Perez, are too horrible to accept.

Was she close with Michelle Malkin, hanging out together a lot and stuff? Malkin's journalism seems sort of inflammatory at times. I kind of wonder if some nut could've been insulted from one of Malkin's articles and did something crazy as a result.

Malkin probably has to deal with a lot of nutjobs. One time years ago, I was bored and e-mailed to The Tennessean (Nashville's newspaper) sports page and gave the opinion that the Tennessee Vols needed to blitz more on third and long because the UT defense was excellent at pressuring quarterbacks but poor at covering receivers, resulting in opposing quarterbacks having too much time and completing a very high percentage of third and longs. The Tennessean publishes names and also the towns of people who write opinions, so people were looking me up in the phone book and calling me and leaving tons of messages on my answering machine. I couldn't believe how angry and threatening some people were over something that I actually thought was a very trivial matter. I like football, but it's only a game. Malkin reports on political matters which tend to be more serious in nature and her style is very provocative. As nutty as people get over one man's opinion about a game, I can only imagine the type of responses Malkin gets out of the hundreds of thousands of people who read her columns.

Idunno, seems a bit far-fetched to me.

As a recent graduate of the University of Washington, I saw Marizela's photo every day, posted at the entrance to most of the major buildings on campus. It breaks my heart to know that she has never been found.

Bumping for her.
