It was reported that both of the fugitive brothers were convicted felons........anybody know what they were convicted of ?

This is an actual interview done with John Reed back during that mudslide. It was posted earlier on the thread, but pay attention to the comments that are starting to roll in at the bottom of the article. One of the locals talks about him being an isolationist and how he had "No Trespassing" signs plastered all over his property.

I guess it's okay for him to trespass on everybody else's land, he just doesn't want anybody trespassing on his. He only had a 3 acre parcel, that's not much land to roam on. The missing couple had 20 acres.

Can you see the new comments?

Court records indicate that Tony Reed has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and theft.

According to the Seattle news article I just posted.

According to an Everett news site "Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance footage tying the Reed brothers to the disposal of Shunn and Patenaude’s vehicles."...

Further, not only was evidence of the homicide in the couple's home and vehicles, but also at the formed residence of john reed.

Here's a snippet of info regarding previous criminal history for at least Tony Reed:

From this article - http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle...on-couple-dead-deputies-seeking-two-suspects/

"Court records indicate that Tony Reed has an extensive criminal history, including arrests for assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and theft."

oops- I see I'm late answering, duplicate.. sorry

Wow. That's a breathtaking property.

Yes it is. But...if you look at some of the previous posts that included a video of the Oso mudslide, it becomes apparent that all of that "brown" land is due to a mudslide and many deaths. How sad.

I'm so sad to hear that it is LE's opinion (based on evidence) that Pat and Monique have been murdered. I can't imagine what their family and friends are going through.

On a different note, I remember being stressed by family 'challenges' a decade or more ago. I thought about how wonderful it would be to live in a gorgeous, rough rural area, with few responsibilities. Once I started to read about some of these places I realized that many (but of course far from all) of the people living in these places lived there because they were running from something or else they simply couldn't handle 'societal norms'. I quickly realized that I wouldn't fit in many of these places! I figured out that I likely wouldn't have many people that I could relate to.
The rural areas of Washington and Oregon are stunning, as are the Blue Mountains of Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina...but there are a lot of 'different' people in those areas. I am happy for them that they have found these beautiful, peaceful areas.

I am also happy to say that I am very happy where I am!

Here is a very interesting article by a local Snohomish County news magazine.

http://snocoreporter.com/missing-couple-arlington/

I live in Snohomish County and have a brother who lives in Darrington. I literally will not visit him because it weirds me out to drive alone or with my kids through that area. It's isolated, there is no cell reception, and the people are a little more... "Rough".

My brother loves it. We grew up in Kentucky and he said it is just like home. Still not a place for a woman to be, alone.

Now that this case came out, I'm finding out about the Freedom county Wack jobs, and the Lavender Moon society, it definitely makes me want to avoid it even more.

Does anyone know the motive of why the Reed brothers would do this?

Thanks in advance.

I am wondering if the mudslide threw these two families into closer quarters than they were before. If you look at the two properties on Zillow (or similar) it looks although the in the past the Reed property may have had another access route and this has been erased.

The Shunn/Patenaude property seems to have a "right of access" path up to the Reeds' property near their eastern boundary line. If the Reeds were walking dogs off-leash, using off-road vehicles, carrying guns etc along this 'right of access' path I can imagine that tempers might flare up resulting in conflicts.

From Zillow:

The first shot shows the southern/eastern edge of the S/P property, with the access track along the property line. Whitman Rr ends just at the right of frame.
The second shot shoes the north of P/S property butting up against the Reed's property.

Tony Reed took over his uncle's shoe repair business in Ellensburg. This article is from 2010.

Lol. Shoe repair business. Lol

I wonder if the guys still spit shining shoes still make money as well.

Those were the days when you could have a decent living from something so simple.

But I'm just bewildered when I hear that some folks own 20 acres of land while being meth heads with no real income.

Maybe flood lands are much cheaper to buy. Idk.

From what I've read, it seems like a land dispute that spun out of control. Now they have all lost.

The
Reed property is only 3 acres. you might be confusing it

I read within an article that Monique was out walking her dog with a friend, she was menaced and touched by a man out with his large dog offleash. That he shoved her and stuttered for her to "get off the county road"
Bet it was John Reed. They did not name the person.Just your garden variety isolationist hothead!

I really do feel that lack of a defined 'thoroughfare' may have caused a lot of the issues between these neighbors. Historical satellite images show that before the landslide there was a proper track, bordered mostly by vegetation. The flooding and mudslides seem to have killed off much of the vegetation, and the track that was the right of access to the Reeds' property is all but washed away in the 2016 images of the area. Also very visible in this most recent image is evidence of ATVs with many tracks criss-crossing the 20 acres of S/P's land. Zooming-in, these do seem to concentrate on the NE of the S/P property where it borders the Reeds property.

It would be interesting to hear from the old owners of the Shunn/Patenaude property to know if they had trouble with these neighbors too...
