the father of the two boys is out of prison as of a little while ago and i don't know if the grandmother can find him or that he can see the boys

Steven had the grandmother removed from his property
the cops didn't help her see her grandson

Steven was in prison for a few felonies for 12 of his adult years not juvenile years

and yes she needs to get a attorney before Steven poisons his mind with his crap

Upon the death of a custodial parent, then the state has custody of the child. Custody is often then given to the other parent if that parent files for custody of the child- unless the court determines that the child is better off in someone else's custody. If that parent doesn't file for custody or is determined unfit for custody then the court will often entertain a petition from another relative to get custody.

GM needs to talk with an attorney over the custody issues. But she might also want to talk with the local district attorney about this. Unless the hubby had adopted the 14 year old, I think the state would actually have custody of the older child. So she may be able to get some assistance from them until custody is determined by the court. She should be able to call the district attorney's office and make an appointment to see an attorney there to discuss it with them. She might need to talk to the LE who are investigating her daughter's case and see if the investigators can help her get in to see the DA.

Still no media coverage of this case. :(

Wish we knew what LE is investigating.

This murder took place July 1st, or 3:30am in the wee hours of the night before.

It will be a month on Saturday (Aug 1).

Does anyone think forensic testing is already completed on the gun, the car, etc.? Sometimes these things take weeks, so I'm holding my breath.

Everytime I see a new post on this thread, I'm always hoping that an an arrest has been made. Either the husband or the hitchhiker. Whoever it is, I hope they are caught soon, so this poor woman has justice.

No arrest yet?
I hope the family is calling them daily for updates.

This is just me but "wouldn't that be a possible reason for gunshot residue to be on his hands. Like, maybe he was holding the hitchhiker's gun hand to keep him from shooting them and the gun went off a few times in the struggle? How did he manage to get the pepper spray canister out and fired off if he was struggling with the hitchhiker? Maybe he got shot as he was firing off the pepper spray? Maybe?

How did this man fight with the hitchhiker while driving the car? At the same time the man sprays the hitchhiker with peppr spray....bullets are flying all over the little car they are in and the man gets shot in the hand. He is still driving while in pain and able to describe the hitchhiker in detail including every piece of clothing he wore...the kind of pants he had on...etc, etc. It is also pitch black outside. This is just all impossible:furious: The LE have to see through this man's bs story. It is not possible for one man to have all of this going on without wrecking the car. Seems to me the pepper spray would have gotten into everyone's eyes in that small area. I think LE are just getting all of the evidence together. If they need any help they can call CSI Miami and ask for Calie and Eric. They will get this figured out :D

I don't have an answer on how long the forensic test will take. It can be months if the labs are backed up. Also, LE will be doing a lot of "behind the scenes" investigating in the mean time. They are just being tight lipped for good reason.

Do we know the gun was left in their car? i have read all the links i could find and couldn't whether it was or it wasn't. does anyone else have a link about it?

same here we are all waiting

from what i was told no the gun wasn't found

this waiting sucks

the reason the labs are so backed up is the darn gang members
are killing each other here in Yakima
and shooting a few innocent bystanders

i will keep you all updated as soon as i hear anything new

Thank you for the update. Please continue to keep us posted. We all hope you are hanging in there. It just takes time. We are here if you need to chat!

Now, I'm crazy and even I know better than to pick up hitchikers. His hand, her head? Pepper spray woulda effected him too in such closed up space as a car?! I don't believe dudes story... he thinks we are all morons, IMO.

I check the Yakima County Sheriff's Office website every morning. That's how much this murder is bothering me.

Here's what bother's me the most, and please correct me if I'm wrong:

No sketch released to public of the alleged hitchhiker by description from the husband (which was verrry detailed), to be aware or help identify him. Don't we usually see one? (It's not on the sheriff's website) Wonder why?

According to the husband, this man shot his wife in the head. If I lived in that area, I would want a visual (sketch would do) to be alert to a perp that could be a murderer in my midst!

On the website of the sheriff's office, there are a whole bunch of other crimes committed since Sheryl's murder. Not one update on her case, no mention of them looking for the hitchhiker who took her life.

But....

The one good thing I feel about this despite the lack of news, is that lack of news may be a good thing. Maybe they are just building the case against Stephen and it's a matter of time before they are ready.

This may never be solved, it's not in the news anymore, but one day it may be. If this crime happened as Stephen alleges, I'll be sorry my hinky meter went thru the roof on this one. If it turns out that LE is not finished investigating, and then someone is arrested in my lifetime for her murder, I will be satisfied she will have justice served.

Oh I definitely think this will be solved and soon! Like so many perps, Stephen thinks he's smarter than everyone else. He gave so very many details which will end up hanging him in the end.

The fact that no sketch of the "hitchhiker" has ever been released speaks volumes! IMO.

Here's a news article dated July 21, 2009. This will give everyone an idea of serious crimes committed from 4/27/09 to 7/19/09, in the Yakima area. Sheryl's murder is listed on 7/1/09.

So these are the crimes before/after Sheryl was killed. I still don't understand why we are not being updated on the investigation of her murder.

ETA: After reading the list, I noticed Sheryl's crime stands out like a sore thumb, because it's the only one where a "hitchhiker" shot someone!

Oh I can picture it, it's really logical.

Him: "Oh look Honey, there's a dangerous looking guy hitchiking,
lets pick him up"

Her: "He looks like a pirate, this will be fun."

No, I do not believe the gun was left in the car.

This is a bit off topic but there is alot of gang violence in that report, which for some reason surprised me. Is there any way, given the amount of random gun violence and cars listed in that report, that the husband's version of events could be correct? I haven't followed this case super close so I could be way way off.

There aren't any charges to date so it is more or less one of those guess for yourself cases.

How many gangbangers do you know that would shoot and kill the woman, shoot the man in the hand, then run and leave him not only alive... but with his car? If that by some rare chance should happen, what do you think the man would do? Go to the nearest home where he might find a phone or drive around a while?
