King 5 News said:
SEATTLE - Police are looking for a suspect after two women were stabbed, one fatally.

Police say the two women were sleeping inside their home in the 700 block of South Rose Street in the South Park neighborhood when, at about 3 a.m., a man entered the home and stabbed them.

The attack is described as "random", "brutal" and "predatory in nature" by police and the reporters.

Such a tragic story. I really hope they catch the perp soon. :(

:rose:

I hope they find the guy. Those poor women. It never ceases to amaze me how little some people value life. So tragic!

And here is a local update:

I was surprised to see such little coverage locally, but maybe I wasn't looking in the correct places. I hope that they catch this guy soon, you would think that he would be acting suspiciously around those that know him well, I mean he just stabbed a woman to death and knows that the other survived, and could possibly identify him, you'd think he would be shaken up, even if a sociopath, that he did not eliminate all witnesses.
Good thoughts go out to the victims' families and loved ones, and prayers for the injured woman's speedy recovery and support in the loss of her partner...how doubly horrific:(

Thank god this guy was caught. Sounds like he's a one person crime wave also suspected of a fatal arson fire and was set to appear on DV charges in August. I think the DV charges are for his mother. She sounds like a big time enabler that just can't grasp how evil her son is.

SEATTLE -- Police have arrested the suspect in the gruesome deadly stabbing in the city's South Park neighborhood, and detectives said the man is also suspected in a fatal fire that left two dead, including former NFL quarterback J.J. Jones earlier this month.

Isaiah M.K. Kalebu was arrested at Magnuson Park on Friday evening after a Metro bus driver recognized him and called 911. Officers located the man and his dog at the park and arrested him without incident, Sgt. Sean Whitcomb said.
Kalebu is suspected of stabbing Teresa Butz to death and wounding her partner at their home on Sunday. Detectives said Kalebu is the person of interest previously identified in surveillance footage released by police. Investigators said they'd questioned 23-year-old Kalebu about the fatal University Place house fire that killed former NFL quarterback John "J.J." Jones and a woman named Rachel Kalebu. Jones had been renting the basement of the home in the 5500 block of 64th Avenue West. (more at link)

Juror sickened by evidence dismissed from Kalebu trial

By Denise Whitaker Published: Jun 13, 2011 at 4:23 PM PDT Last Updated: Jun 13, 2011 at 7:23 PM PDT

The man called the court on Monday and said the graphic nature of the case has made him too stressed, unable to sleep and too sick to continue.

That juror was dismissed and an alternate will take his place.

Kalebu swallows pencil, taken to hospital

By KOMO Staff Published: Jun 14, 2011 at 1:51 PM PDT Last Updated: Jun 14, 2011 at 8:16 PM PDT

Murder suspect Isaiah Kalebu was taken to Harborview Medical Center Tuesday afternoon after he swallowed a "golf"-sized pencil during his trial.

Somebody should make him swallow something more interesting than a pencil.

This story is so sad, and disturbing. I don't blame the juror who bailed, I'm still trying to avoid the details myself.

Some of the original news articles mentioned that one of Teresa's brothers, Norbert Leo Butz, was actually in Seattle at the time of the murder, starring in the out of town tryout of "Catch Me If You Can" (as the Tom Hanks character from the movie.)

Norbert just won the Tony Award this past Sunday night for best leading actor in a musical for his "Catch Me" performance, and mentioned Teresa at the end of his speech. A sad note to what should have been nothing but a career triumph for a highly talented performer, but hopefully the family will find some justice from the trial.

Sources: Kalebu hospitalized after suicide attempt
Posted by Jennifer Sullivan

Medics at the King County Jail were called to the cell of accused South Park killer Isaiah Kalebu Wednesday morning after the man reportedly tried to commit suicide.

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg is not seeking the death penalty because of Kalebu's history of mental illness.

He needs another eval (in one of the more recent articles the Judge was talking about doing this) IMHO. Once he's stable then proceed to trial and convict him. JMHO

South Park murder defendant says he was instructed by God

Isaiah Kalebu said, "I was instructed by my God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to attack my enemies. I did so."

The defense then asked the court to again consider his mental state.

From August 2011:

http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Life-sentence-for-South-Park-killer-rapist-1914766.php

The man convicted in a vicious home invasion sexual assault that saw one woman killed and her fiancée nearly slain will spend the rest of his life in prison, a King County judge ruled Friday.

Convicted of aggravated murder in June, Isaiah Kalebu, 25, raped and cut Teresa Butz and Jennifer Hopper for more than 90 minutes before killing Butz and stabbing Hopper on July 19, 2009. Kalebu, a stranger to the women, had broken into their bedroom before attacking them...

Hayden did impose an additional 98-year prison term, which Kalebu would be required to serve if the life sentence was rejected by an appellate court or vacated through a change in state law.

Now: the harrowing account of how a mentally ill man attacked and raped a young couple in Seattle and how it exposed gaps in our system...

. And now, [Eli] Sanders has widened the story into this book, “While the City Slept: A Love Lost to Violence and a Young Man’s Descent Into Madness.”...

As Kalebu’s mental state deteriorated, he got into more and more trouble with the law, and cycled through courtroom after courtroom. Just days before the attack, a fight with a police officer landed Kalebu in district court. But the system couldn’t see the looming threat. In Washington state, the state that birthed Microsoft, a district court judge’s computer cannot speak to a superior court judge’s computer in another county in a way that was sufficient for the district court judge to see who he had in front of him. And so Isaiah Kalebu was released.

And not long after that, he scared his aunt so badly that she filed for a restraining order against him. And that again failed to set off any alarms in these fragmented, fractured, unintegrated systems. The day after, she was killed in an arson. And he was a suspect in that arson, but was then released.
