WA - Unidentified Male: "Lyle Stevik", Grays Harbor, 17 Sept 2001 - #4

The date of this case caught my eye today and I just read through much of the 3 threads. Could 'Lyle' have been a friend or associate of this unidentified male found in Deep River, Ontario on 5 September 2001?

The unidentified male from the OPP site may not be Canadian. He had a backpack with supplies indicating a day hiking trip - it also contained a luggage tag for a domestic flight in Costa Rica (no date given), a snack bar from a GNC store (not found in Canada) and matches from a W Hotel (not found in Canada and no indication of which one).
He was possibly on the West Coast prior to his death as he had matches from an upscale hotel in Vancouver. He also had matches from an upscale hotel in Toronto.
He was clean and nicely dressed and if traveling around must have had access to money.

He should have had ID and a way to get to the remote location where he was found. No COD is listed but 'no trauma to the body' is stated. Suicide? Natural cause?

If he was traveling, there should be luggage and/or personal effects left somewhere, unless someone took them.

Have always wondered if he got lost in the aftermath of 9/11, and would like to see him have his name back. Maybe he didn't want that though.

'Lyle' is thought to possibly be Canadian and despondent enough to commit suicide. He ditched his ID and personal effects, and it is not known how he arrived at the remote place he was found, or why he was there.

Just wanted to add this thought and hope Coldcaseman sill see it.

Harold Gavis seems a possible match regarding date of disappearance and location but on the picture we can see he has earlobes.
 
Lyle does have earlobes, but you can't see them properly in the profile image, but it stands out in one of the side images that I have provided as an attachment. He has attached earlobes, like I do. I have provided a second photo as well. It is another profile image that was taken at a different angle.

I have blurred his face in both the attachments

I'm not an earlobe specialist (:p) but I thought someone said Lyle had no earlobes, not even attached. Anyway, Harold Gavis has earlobes and they don't seem attached on his picture so IMO it's not him.

That's what we initally believed, and I don't remember how it came about. The profile photo is a little misleading, but the two that I attached give a better view.

Lyle also has some freckles on his face and joined eyebrows.

Galvis sort of has a curly look to his ears and I do not notice that on Lyle's ears.
 
I suppose we all see different things on the picture. To me, the chin doesn't match. Lyle's one looks squarer and Galvis' one looks pointier.
 
Maybe it is not, looked similar to me.
As for eyebrows, the person who "made him up" may of done them differently than Lyle did. I felt if the Galvis pic was Lyle, it was a earlier photo of him, from maybe a fews years before.
I am not sure you would see the freckles on the photo of Galvis. It wasn't like a real high quality photo.
Did I dream up Lyle had a wandering/lazy eye? The reason I ask is cuz Galvis's eye does look kind of funny.

I also thought Lyle had more of a squared chin. The nose in Galvis foto could have been swollen if it had recently been broken, couldn't it? I think there was a Galvis in Utah who was a dentist. If it were a family member, it would explain the good orthodontal work.
 
I posted the Harold Galvis possibility on the FB group, and heard back from Lane. He does not believe that Galvis is Lyle.

"The height is ballpark, but the ears and nose don't match."
 
Hi, I'm new to all of this. I joined because I happened upon Lyle's picture yesterday morning on the Doe Network and I believe Lyle is my ex-roomate Richard. I have spoken with Detective Shumate and emailed him some pictures I had of Richard when he lived with me in 98. I haven't seen or heard from Richard since. I also emailed a mutual friend of ours Lyle's picture and she also believes it to be Richard. Neither of us have heard from him since the late nineties and everything seems to fit. Lyle and Richard have the same jawline, hairline, eye shape, eyebrows, hair colour and complexion. Richard is from the Lower Mainland in British Columbia Canada and had a volatile relationship with his father. He was abandoned by his mother at an early age when she joined the Hare Krishnas. Richard has no siblings and i am not aware if he had any other extended family. I'm praying it's not him, but everything seems to fit. I'm waiting for a reply from Detective Shumate. When Richard moved out of my house in '98, he was depressed, having issues with cocaine and I suspect may have had some drug induced paranoia. He was well read, soft spoken, had a beautiful smile and was a gentle soul. I suspect he also may have been wrestling with his sexuality. On one hand, I hope this brings some closure to Lyle's story but on the other, I'm praying he is not Richard. I can hardly wrap my head around this, I barely slept last night and can't stop thinking now about Lyle AND Richard and whether or not they are the same person.

I hope for your sake that it isn't him, and that he is alive and doing okay. If it is him, then the parental issues might be of some explanation about why nobody has recognized him for the past 11 years.

Just out of curiosity, which city in the Lower Mainland? I live in the LM and from BC.

Was Richard Native American by chance?
 
Richard was from Burnaby. He is of German descent but is very dark, almost as if he had gypsy in him.

Oh, dear. Looks very close; can't really say without a straight-on view, tho. Hairline and eyebrows seem to match tho.
 
I know the picture would lead you to believe that Richard has earlobes but if there is one thing I do remember about him is that his lobes were fused. I apologize for the poor image quality. I do have several other pictures I will try and post. I don't know why, but it will not let me upload the second set of pictures. It is four pictures of Richard I scanned into the computer to send to Detective Shumate. I am willing to email them to someone if they can help me upload them.
