The court heard that a Land Rover Discovery belonging to Whall’s partner, Emma Roberts, was found burnt out on 3 June, two weeks after he was questioned by police about his possession of crossbows.

The GPS in the car was destroyed by the fire but information retained by Jaguar Land Rover showed that on the night of 17 April it had travelled to the driveway of Corrigan’s home and then to nearby Porthdafach beach, in what Rouch alleged was a reconnaissance before the killing.

On Thursday 18 April, the car was driven from Whall’s home to Porthdafach beach, where it remained for an hour and a half until 12.42am on 19 April, about 12 minutes after Corrigan was shot, the court heard.

The system showed the boot was opened and closed when the car arrived and before it left.

Rouch claimed Whall interrupted the satellite signal then hid and waited for Corrigan to come out. “When he did so, he callously shot him,” the prosecutor alleged.

The court heard that Whall had owned two crossbows, but claimed he sold one to a stranger earlier in 2019 and the second, bought online in April 2019, was not delivered until after the shooting.

When interviewed by police, Whall said that on the night of the shooting he was with friend Barrie Williams, also known as Baz, who he was having an affair with, the court heard.

He said they had travelled to the beach car park and engaged in sexual activities in fields nearby. But Rouch told the jury that Williams was likely to tell them he had not seen Whall that night.

Trial to get underway
The trial is set to start again shortly.

11:42SARAH HODGSON
Partner of Gerald Corrigan gives evidence
Marie Bailey, the partner of Gerald Corrigan, who was shot by the crossbow, is about to give evidence via a recorded video interview.

Ms Bailey will be cross examined via video link

In the interview Ms Bailey said they had been shopping to Morrisons, came back and had some food and watched TV and she went to bed about 9pm.

Ms Bailey says there was nothing unusual that day. Mr Corrigan stayed up after she went to bed.

11:43SARAH HODGSON
Gerald Corrigan was shouting and bleeding
There were no visitors in the evening. She was woken later by Mr Corrigan shouting very loudly up the stairs in a panic and he was bleeding and he had broken his arm and she said that she needed to get up and drive him to hospital. He was bleeding badly.

11:52SARAH HODGSON
Partner tells how she tried to help Gerald Corrigan
He was in a lot of pain, she said. He got himself into the bathroom and she tried to help him. He was gripping his arms and bleeding heavily more than he should for a broken arm. She rang the ambulance and they gave advice to staunch the bleeding.

Ms Bailey said “he was shouting he was in pain”. She gave further directions to the ambulance service to ensure they knew where their home was.

Ms Bailey said he was shouting from the bottom of the stairs. She said she is disabled and it would have been difficult to get him to and drive him in a car to hospital.

12:08SARAH HODGSON
Gerald Corrigan believed he had been shocked by satellite dish
Ms Bailey says he was clutching his side and his right arm. He had put a light on and there was “a bloody finger mark on the light switch”.

Ms Bailey said he said he had been looking at the satellite dish and he had “received a shock from it”.

She said she couldn’t see a wound and he was just clutching onto his side

“I was able to push a towel as firmly as I could onto his damaged arm”. She said.

But she didn’t realise his side was damaged at that point.

Mr Corrigan said at one point that “he felt he was having a heart attack” and “they should hurry up,” said Ms Bailey.

12:15SARAH HODGSON
Blood 'all over the stairs'
Ms Bailey said she wasn’t aware of anything strange in the background.

She said the ambulance service arrived and she opened the door - at this point there was nothing unusual that occurred to her - but “there was blood all over the stairs and in the hall.”

Ms Bailey says she had told Mr Corrigan to stay at the top of the stairs when the paramedics arrived.

12:22SARAH HODGSON
Partner recalls when paramedics arrived
Ms Bailey said the satellite dish is on the right of the front door facing towards the sea and on a bracket on the ground.

She went back to Mr Corrigan after the paramedics arrived. They came up the the top of the stairs to treat him.

One of the paramedics said it must have been due to adrenaline that he managed to get up the stairs. Ms Bailey goes to the bottom of the stairs. She says she didn’t notice anything unusual or a sign of disturbance - just blood.

Paramedic discovered arrow
A paramedic asks Ms Bailey where the satellite dish is and she shows him. He finds “what looked like to be an arrow” and picked it up and said “You had better take that, it might be important for the doctor to see.”

Ms Bailey said she didn’t know what the item was - she says it was a long piece of wood that looked like and arrow without a tip - there was a set of flights on the back. It was pale wood coloured. The flight looked light cream and red - but that could’ve been Mr Corrigan’s blood, she said.

She didn’t touch the arrow and said she didn’t know what it was.

“I was puzzled what it was and what it was doing there,” she said.

Ms Bailey didn’t see anything else. She was also shown the front gate was open “which was unusual” - it was usually closed to keep cows out.

12:46SARAH HODGSON
Gerald Corrigan's partner 'shocked' when police called
Ms Bailey says they took Mr Corrigan to the ambulance. She didn’t get in and drove herself to the hospital. “He was concerned for me,” she said.

She said at hospital the paramedic had the arrow in a bag and the police were there. She was told that Mr Corrigan had “a significant injury” and the police had to be called. “I was very shocked.”

“At the time I thought he had a broken arm and I would be driving him home. The arrow had actually gone through his body and arm as well” she said.

12:47SARAH HODGSON
How the pair met
Ms Bailey says Mr Corrigan was her partner and “very much her significant other” who she has known for 28 years.

Ms Bailey says she has been in North Wales since 1998. Before she was in Lancaster where she met Mr Corrigan in a pub. Mr Corrigan had moved to North Wales before when he retired.

12:48SARAH HODGSON
Gerald Corrigan did not own a crossbow
Gof Du is owned by Mr Corrigan. She says there have been no issues with poachers and Mr Corrigan is not part of a lampers group and does not shoot. He does not own a crossbow, says Ms Bailey

12:53SARAH HODGSON
'I don't know why anybody would want to harm Gerry'
Ms Bailey talks about her Multiple Sclerosis - she was diagnosed 20 years ago. She is a morning person and he is a “night owl” and sometimes doesn’t come to bed til 2am. Mr Corrigan cared for her. They didn’t go out very much.

The TV was working as far as she understood before going to bed. The satellite signal does go sometimes, Ms Bailey said. But she says she doesn’t understand why he went outside. They would contact Sky to sort out and problems.

“I am puzzled about that,” she says.

Ms Bailey says she is not aware of any strange people around the house recently.

Ms Bailey said :“I don’t know anybody who was Gerry’s enemy at all I don’t know why anybody would want to harm Gerry.”

13:09SARAH HODGSON
No unusual activity around the house
Another police interview with Ms Bailey in July 2019 last year is being played. She is asked about their movements around when Mr Corrigan was shot.

Ms Bailey says she doesn’t recall any unusual activity with vehicles around the property that week. Mr Corrigan didn’t mention anything either. There was also nothing unusual on April 18.

Ms Bailey said if Mr Corrigan was worried he didn’t share it with her.

On April 18 Ms Bailey said the gate near their home would have “most certainly” been closed. It was open when she discovered Mr Corrigan later, she said. A person would have to lift a loop of rope to open it, she said.

13:10SARAH HODGSON
Partner of Mr Corrigan did not know defendant Terry Whall
The grass had been cut the day before Good Friday, Ms Bailey said. But the gate is “always closed”. I don’t know Terry Whall” she says.

The first she heard of it was when police told her he had been arrested. She had never heard of him before.

13:10SARAH HODGSON
Break for lunch
Trial adjourned for lunch.

Trial resumes
Ms Bailey is about to give further evidence via video link.

14:24SARAH HODGSON
Cross-examination begins
David Elias QC, acting for Terence Whall, who is accused of the murder of Mr Corrigan, is cross-examining Ms Bailey.

Mr Elias says Ms Bailey had another interview in May that was not played to the jury. She agrees.

14:32SARAH HODGSON
Marie Bailey stayed at a friend's house after incident
Mr Elias says police wanted to have as much details about the incident as possible and people in their lives. Did you give as much detail as you could on April 20? he asks.

Mr Elias asks was there anything affecting you on April 20 that stopped you giving as much detail as possible to the police? “Not that I can think of at the moment” she says.

Had anyone between the time of the incident and the interview on April 20 said something to you to prevent you giving a full account about people involved in your lives, he asks? Ms Bailey needs to think about this “Do you want me to say some names to you?”

Ms Bailey had to find somewhere to stay - as the house was a crime scene. She stayed with a friend of Mr Corrigan’s for a night and he didn’t prevent her from talking to the police about people who do work for him or friends. The friend’s name was Wyn Lewis. She was glad to get away from Wyn.

14:44SARAH HODGSON
Court hears 'friend' asked Marie Bailey to lie to police about 'fraud' allegation
He wasn’t really going to look after me, said Ms Bailey. Wyn was only looking after himself, says Mr Elias. He asked me to not talk about an incident, said Ms Bailey.

Ms Bailey said it was to do with a fraud that Wyn was involved in involving £50,000 - and he asked her to lie to the police. The money was to buy some land on Anglesey, she said she was told.

Ms Bailey then spoke to the police about the issue with Wyn.

14:46SARAH HODGSON
Ms Bailey was told not to talk to police about money
Wyn was at the hospital and suggested you go back with him on April 19, said Mr Elias. Ms Bailey agreed.

He made sure what you were not to tell the police, said Mr Elias “Yes” she says.

Wyn said I shouldn’t speak about my money that I believed I had paid to buy the piece of land that didn’t happen.

Two other men involved in the fraud she claims.

The piece of land involved was called Llanddona.

14:52SARAH HODGSON
Marie Bailey handed over £50,000
£50,000 came from sale of property Ms Bailey owned, court hears.

Ms Bailey and Mr Corrigan never received any receipts from Wyn. She handed over £50,000 to Wyn’s wife’s account. There was no benefit back from the £50,000.

“I expected some paper work, but it never happened,” she said.

14:58SARAH HODGSON
Gerald Corrigan's partner 'felt in danger' staying with man
Ms Bailey had sold a property in 2018 and £50,000 was being passed on to Wyn. He told her they would buy a piece of land, Llanddona, to get planning permission to sell on for more money. Wyn told her not to mention two other individuals involved to the police.

Ms Bailey said she was very glad to get away from Wyn and “felt in danger if I stayed with him”. She said she “did not feel safe with him at all”.

This scam is getting bigger, now up to £250k.
15:48
Bailey gave £7,000 for a horse
Ms Bailey had given £7,000 to “Wyn” for the sale of a horse - as part of the money from her pension. But she didn’t see a horse, she said. She never went to Ireland to see them and there was always a reason why they couldn’t go, said Ms Bailey. She saw no benefit from the £7,000.

15:55
Ms Bailey confirmed the lie
Ms Bailey said Wyn said he had a place in Ireland, but they couldn’t find it.

Ms Bailey confirmed the lie was she said the money was for the renovation of Mr Corrigan’s mother’s house - which he had inherited - some work had been done there and Wyn was said to be doing work on that house.

But they never got to look because “Gerry didn’t want to.”

15:56
£250,000 was given to Wyn in 18 months
Large amounts of cash we’re given to Wyn for planning permission for Gof Du, planning permission for Llanddona. and for the renovation of Mr Corrigan’s mum’s house.

In total they gave Wyn £250,000 over 18 months and never saw any benefit.

Growing cannabis at Gof Du
Ms Bailey said Mr Corrigan was not shy of “showing anger”.

She said he had given permission for a small amount of cannabis to be grown in outbuildings at Gof Du to help Ms Bailey’s MS. But Wyn grew a lot more there on the top floor and the bottom floor. Mr Corrigan became angry and they were gone soon after.

She confirmed she gave Wyn a few hundred pounds to grow cannabis there.
