They're doing what defense lawyers do.
Everyone hates defense lawyers.......until they need one.

At trial, I expect to see a bloody leather glove. Or maybe they'll try to stuff a life-size, sticky silicone rubber doll into a small kitchen trash bag and the mantra will be..."if it doesn't fit, you must acquit!"
Actually, the defense is doing their job well. They are building all kinds of appellate questions about Casey's Constitutional rights being violated as well as reasonable doubt so long as there is no body found. And even with motive, opportunity, etc. there is so far, no way to prove Casey Anthony put a body in her trunk.
I can see an argument that she loaned her car to someone (the babysitter) and when she got the car back, some big body-guard-type thugs told Casey that Caylee died and was in the trunk - that the babysitter was going to make a run for the border and to wait a month before telling anyone that Caylee is dead or even ACTING like anything was wrong...or ELSE! (Parents would be killed, brother would be killed, etc., etc.)
This is not what I believe happened, but it is the kind of stuff that will raise reasonable doubt in a jury's mind and possibly cause hung juries, mistrials, etc. which usually offer up even more appellate causes.
Defense attorneys are easy to hate on, but believe me - if you're ever in trouble, you'll be looking for the meanest, toughest, smartest, slickest defense attorney you can find. They do serve an important role in our justice system, as there are frequently innocent people accused of crimes. When an attorney earns a reputation as a good defense attorney, he/she is in demand and they make a whole lotta' money. They're not crooks - they're entrepreneurs and not everyone they represent is criminal.
I think what is a little whack is that the poor have no access to the brilliant legal minds and are often stuck with uninvolved attorney's who are merely there to assure that procedure is followed correctly and that appellate issues are preserved. This is why 99% of Death Row inmates are from one socio-economic class - the poor.
When you have a team of lawyers working full time on a case, they can FIND the nitty-gritty details that will work for their clients' benefit. And don't forget all the back-room negotiating.
If you want to understand the way it works, rent the movie - The Client. It was required viewing in my first year of law school. It's as close as it gets to the real deal.
I hope I'm never in trouble, but if I am I can tell you that I would seek out a defense attorney who put as much effort and heart into my case, as Baez & Company are putting into Casey Anthony.

All I really care about is that when Casey goes on trial, the 12 of her peers that will make up the jury are intelligent enough to see through the BS.
