for some reason I think there is bad blood between Aretha and Dionne...I seem to remember an interview some years ago where she said she was a better singer than Aretha and never got the R E S P E C T...she felt she desereved...

I was suprised to dicover they were related.

that i can totally believe. dionne warwick is a piece of work and i say that based on the experience of someone i know first-hand who had to deal with her. that said, all you have to do to see her true personality is watch her appearance on ''the apprentice.'' scary woman. spiteful, bitter, and cruel.

i was beyond shocked to find myself thinking well of her yesterday! i didn't think she had 4 hours of calm and kindness in her!

All of thse people come from a gospel music background, many with family
who were memebrs of gospel groups. Warwick's partnership with
Bacharach is what brought her real prominence, imo, and she never was
quite the same after that; she fell back on pursuing her degrees in music
education only to emerge as a "learned singer" and educator, claiming
academic credentials, while still lingering for 'pop' recognition.

Trying to sort these things out and keeping track of what these people are
doing (or claiming) is like herding cats. I just would not get into a poker
game with them! (anything could happen and it would be messy!) :waitasec:

Here's quote from EdMcMahon from those days:
"When I was on with Johnny, Dionne Warwick was bigger than big. If it wasn't the Beatles or
Simon and Garfunkle or the Rolling Stones it was DIONNE Warwick. In fact, her work was so
popular we could never get enough. She worked with Burt Bacharach and Hal David - they
wrote the music and she sang it. She came on our show and Johnny called her Dianne
instead of Dionne. She never lost her poise. But CBS heard about it the next morning.
The poor guy, Johnny, did not get fired. ".

I agree she needs family near for a while. Don't know if she went to rehab or if she did for how long, but I hope she is close with Cissy, Dionne, and anyone else trying to help her. Sounds like that is all she really has.

I know that would be best, but I'm betting she won't do that. She is 18 and I think going from the lifestyle she had with her mother to what would probably, to her, be a boring "normal" life in New Jersey with her grandmother would be major culture shock I think. I think she will get out of New Jersey as soon as she can and back to the life she knows.

I worry about what that will do to Cissy, though. She is 79. I think she has aged so much in the last few years and I'm afraid all of this is going to be too much for her.

I read the Aretha did a concert the evening of Whitney's funeral. I know I shouldn't judge, but I think she should have been at the funeral come hell or high water, even if she had to come in a wheelchair (her leg was bothering her), and if she had to cancel something it should have been the concert, not the funeral.

Whitney Houston
Family STRIPS Hotel Room
to Thwart Looters

According to sources, the family has removed nearly everything from room 434 at the Beverly Hilton hotel that hasn't been bolted down -- including bed sheets, towels ... even bits of trash.

Being curious about this kind of thing, I went to ebay. There is already a "rose" dress up for sale. Who could have a dress of Whitney's to sell?

There had to be an auction, but so soon?

A black velvet dress that belonged to Whitney Houston and a pair of earrings she wore in "The Bodyguard" will be sold to the highest bidder next month. The singer's floor-length black dress is valued at $1,000 but likely to collect much more. Same goes for the vest she wore in "The Bodyguard," listed at $400, and the faux-pearl earrings that start at $600.

I agree, AF should have been there. IMO I think it was just plain RUDE! Especially since she had been spouting off the whole preceding week.

I lost all respect for Dionne when she started those obnoxious nonstop commercials for the 'psychic network". Imagine peddling a useless product that cost a few dollars a minute and contains no useful information and can even be misleading and harmful. Why prey on those who are searching for answers, trying to find out about a deceased loved one etc? She made millions from it and lost all credibility by doing so. Many people were downright scammed by these "psychics and taken for thousands of dollars.

I had forgotten about those infomercials. I don't believe in that so I never paid them no mind.

bobby brown was talking about his OTHER daughter being devastated that they were mistreated and had to leave. as i have said more than once, and the link has been posted many times, bobbi kristina had no idea there was an issue...nor did most anyone else. iow, this was blown up by the houston family, not bobby brown.

why this constant insistence that bobby brown is such a demon? geesh.

he arrived with bobbi k's half-siblings. one of them is (and i think this is the correct name) laprincia. SHE was devastated. she had a relationship with whitney, has a relationship with bobbi k, and wanted to be there.

aye yie yie yie yie.....

ITA with this post.

IMO he is being vilified ( like always) and being blamed for everybody else's problems.

Nobody wants to take personal responsibility. I guess it's just easier to blame Bobby.

He has issues. But he's human.
They ALL have issues. They are all human.

But, IMO, Bobby is being used as a punching bag. And he's really taking the adult approach to it.

He loved Whitney and she loved him.

I don't really know much about Whitney Houston's offspring, but did BK ever go to school and have any kind of a "normal" kid's life? From what I've read about her recently, it seems that she and her mother were pretty much joined at the hip with BK traveling hither and yon while Mom was touring. Plenty of educational opportunities in the travel, to be sure, but did Bobbi Kristina ever have friends her own age (I know about the boyfriend) and time to just hang out and be a regular kid? Those of you who have followed WH's career closer than I might know about BK's life and will share. Thanks.

From what I know, from one of her good friends, BK's life was kind of 'confusing.' Sometimes she would be with her mom 24/7. And she would be doted upon by her mom. And then she would be sent to her grandmothers to live for awhile, and she would miss her mom. But she would get settled into school and be there until her mom would come back into town and take over her upbringing again. So she was kind of bounced around. Her life with her parents was chaotic but exciting. Then when she was away from them she had some stability but it was boring in comparison. And she acted out a lot.

Because he arrived with 9 PEOPLE!!! When he was told to only have TWO people. He deliberately disrespected the Houston family by showing up with the 9 people. He could have taken steps to try to call the family the night prior to see if arrangement's can be made. That way there would have been no scene on Saturday. That's why I have such an issue with him! This was suppose to be about Whitney Houston, not Bobbi Brown, and he clearly made it about him. He complained that he was asked to move 3 different times, well what do you expect when you show up with 7 extra people?? He thought that he could run things! He thought that the rules didn't apply to him he waltzed right in there expecting to just be accommodated.. And then complaining about trying to talk to Bobbi Kristina, and the Houston family wanted nothing to do with that. I would guess not! This is the same man that wanted absolutely nothing to do with Bobbi Kristina for the past several years, now all of a sudden he wants everything to do with her when money is on the table! Something is fishy!

I do not like how handled this among other things!

He has more than 2 children. Whitney was their step-mother for years.
All of the children should have been planned for to begin with.

The Houston family putting a 2 guest minimum on Whitney's former family was wrong IMO.

Why?? When the church could only seat 300 people!! They had to be very careful who they chose, and who they gave invites to. They had to be very picky. And maybe Bobbi Kristina requested that they all not be invited??

And even if that was the case and he wanted to bring other people, he should have had the RESPECT to call the family in advance and see if arrangements could be made, instead of EXPECTING that it would be all ok!

I am not trying to be harsh to a grieving family, and I hate that Whitney could not hang on to her sobriety and be happy. I hate it even worse that her child has fallen into the lifestyle of drug addiction.
But having said that.... I work for a physician who is an addiction specialist, and some cold hard truth needs to be said.

The entire family needs treatment. There is a lot of co-dependency going on, and BC needs to save herself and not worry about anyone else at the moment. She can't change anyone but herself. The same goes for everyone else in the family. If they were capable of curing addiction....it would've happened with Whitney. They all need to take a good look at the way things have been, get help, and make changes if BC is going to live. She won't make it either if her family continues down the same path of enabling her addiction. Going to rehab is just the start of regaining a sober lifestyle, and it won't do any good if the family falls right back into the same trap. BC is in a very precarious situation, and she seems to be very fragile. Rehab cannot address everything. The family has much work to do, as well as BC, so that she can have a future.
BTW...Dionne Warwick has a drug arrest in her past as well. She may or may not have changed her ways, but clearly she did have an issue at one point. There is obviously a family history of drug abuse that has to be overcome.

But like you said the entire family needs treatment. Even if it is only for a session or two it might be a good way of getting the ball rolling for that kind of therapy, for the therapists to point out to them how family plays a role in enabling addicts and how they need to change to support their recovery.

I forgot about Dionne's pot arrest! I just went to her wiki and it looks like her sister was an addict. I guess Dionne has some serious financial problems as well.

His children, who spent 14-15 years of their lives with Whitney as their step-mother should have been a "given".
Why would he feel he should call ahead to make sure his children would have a seat?
They were a part of Whitney's life for a lot longer and a lot closer than most in that church.

"Dionne Warwick is second only to Aretha Franklin as the female vocalist with the most Billboard Hot 100 chart hits during the rock era (1955-1999). "

"Warwick graduated from East Orange High School in 1958 and was awarded a Scholarship in Music Education to the Hartt College of Music in Hartford, Connecticut (a school from which she earned a Masters Degree and then a Doctorate in Music Education in 1973)."

Warwick and Aretha have had different backgrounds and career tracks in their lives. Watwick has even dabbled in opera and formal music composition - she is an accomplished pianist, for one thing.

They are very different people.

Personally, Ive always thought Warwick was vastly over rated ... but my wife loved her
music! I would come home, my wife would have a Warwick record on ... I would head for the
garage! Funny. I dont think Warwick ever had the natural talents of an Aretha ... or
even remotely close to Whitney! But Warwick has worked her tail off to build a musical
life, which a lot of people (especially in academia) respect. Each to his own -

I was really surprised to see that! Both were a bit before my time. My Aretha cds have been played ALOT, I haven't listened to Dionne much.

When the news hit about Demi Moore's struggles I thought about Valley of the Dolls, now I really have the theme song that Dionne sung on the brain. :)
