Jurors in the trial of a Madison man accused of abusing his daughter started deliberating just after 10 a.m. Friday morning. Attorneys were called back into the courtroom at around 11:15 a.m. because the jury asked to look at more photos of the victim and her room in Chritton's home. http://www.wkow.com/story/21641203/2013/03/14/jury-deliberating-in-child-abuse-trial

[The jury] spent six hours discussing the case Friday before sending a note to Dane County Circuit Judge Julie Genovese saying they'd reached a unanimous verdict on at least one count but were deadlocked on others and had been since Thursday.

Genovese brought the jury into the courtroom, told them to keep trying and sent them back to the deliberations room. http://www.nbc15.com/home/headlines...ase_of_Significant_Child_Abuse_139305473.html

I'm with you, Hopeful One; why didn't they just go in, vote, come out with a guilty verdict???

I dont know if this has been posted or if im even aloud to be posting this but has anyone seen this?

It would provide me some entertainment to shred the sheer unadulterated lameness of that website, but I am not going to expend any effort on their behalf. What I was able to glean from trying to fill in all of the missing words and correcting the grammar in my head was that there is a massive conspiracy by the govt force these people to parent the 15 year old. And the website concedes imo(I hope LE has a screen shot for the sexual abuse trial of the RSO brother) that the 15 year old needed to be protected from her brother.

There fore, since bio dad served some time in the military and since stepmom has gained weight, people should donate money based upon these factors and the fact that they say they are innocent.

Right. Hope they have all of their non profit paperwork in order.

I am sorry, I know I said I wouldnt do this but just one snip:

If they are unable to raise the funds necessary for their defense, the chances of them being convicted and going to prison for something the did not do increases sustainably.

This is a direct quote-I kid you not.

I figured the jury would deadlock on something because it may be that the victim does have some mental health issues...I would think they would be almost impossible to sort out given what she has experienced to date. JMO. I am heartened (I hope) that they rapidly reached verdicts on at least one of the charges.

This is sickening. Can you image what the victim is thinking? Worried that they don't believe her and that her torture won't be recognized and punished??

Please, jury, don't fail her!

They're still deliberating now at 8 PM on the second day.

Of the six child abuse counts Chritton faces, five are felonies. The Judge asked jurors Friday if they had reached a verdict in any of the counts and the answer was yes. It's still not clear how many they agree on.
"Given that everybody's done the work, I do want to give them at least one last shot to try and reach a verdict on any of the outstanding counts," Dane County Judge Julie Genovese said. She also mentioned a mistrial would result in a lot of time and expense.

The jurors were brought back into the courtroom, given supplemental instruction, and returned to deliberations.

Chritton guilty of felony child neglect

A Dane County jury has found Chad Chritton guilty on one felony count of child neglect and not guilty on a misdemeanor neglect charge; but jurors could not reach unanimous verdicts on the other charges against him. A mistrial was declared on those charges.

Haven't heard anything about sentencing. But, looking around for info, I did read this about the stepmother getting a nice dose of karma :rocker::
". . . Jail-required prescription medication had led Drabek-Chritton to lose ninety pounds since her February arrest." http://www.wkow.com/story/17457154/child-abuse-supects-to-enter-pleas-monday

This is the last sentence of the first segment in your link.

Chritton remains free under the pre-existing conditions on his bail.
:furious::furious::furious::furious::furious::furious:
Sure glad they have the flaming angry smilies to use for this case!

I will say this-the judge let them bail after a two day deadlock. They must have been not even close on those other counts because that seems like some soft pedaling there. JMO.

In any case, the 90lb weight loss removes at least one of the criteria for providing money for their defense fund...just saying.

I hope and pray that the conviction means he wont get any of the children back. Ms Drabek is going to plead as is her son, I suspect....

Prosecutors, PLEASE make her plead guilty to a felony and not to a misdemeanor.

How did Chritton get out-I thought their bail was astronomically high? Part of the conspiracy....I wonder how she feels about him being out and about, and her being in the slammer.

In any case, I suspect I know who created the website now that there has been a further description of his skill set.

It amazes me that they were deadlocked on these charges!

Jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on the remaining four charges against Chritton, including first degree recklessly endangering safety, child abuse by intentionally causing harm, causing mental harm to a child and false imprisonment. http://www.channel3000.com/news/chritton-verdict/-/1648/19329284/-/ogo8o7/-/index.html
Chritton’s sentencing on the felony child neglect conviction would be held after trials for Drabek-Chritton and her son, Joshua Drabek, who is scheduled to be tried on sexual assault charges in June, and after a possible retrial of Chritton on the charges on which the jury was deadlocked.
The child neglect conviction carries a penalty of up to three years in prison and three years of extended supervision.

I would love to know the split, tbh. Was there one holdout? Did someone believe that one felony count was sufficient?

I wonder if they attributed the bodily harm to Drabek more so than the father?

I feel so sorry for this little girl. She has been through so much and this is not going to be enough punishment for this b*****d. Her own FATHER. He can say what he likes, he didn't testify because his lawyer told him not to. He knew what was happening. She has been abused by her whole family, so horribly and after all of this she still finds the motivation to testify and do the right thing. She is such an inspiration and I find her strength beyond amazing. I really hope they get the maximum punishment available, seeing as taking them out back and shooting them isn't an option.

It amazes me that they were deadlocked on these charges!

Am I sensing some legal maneuvering here? The cases are being tried separately so there is no legal reason I can see to hold up on sentencing. Unless they are going to try to get him to testify against the others.

Wouldnt that blow Drabek's mind if he blamed it all on her?

... instead she's plead no contest. Originally, she was charged with six felonies. But because she's plead no contest, she will be sentenced on two counts: first degree recklessly endangering safety and mental harm to a child. The other four charges have been dismissed.

Drabek could now face up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine.

Melinda Drabek-Chritton, charged with abusing her husband's 15-year-old daughter, who was found barefoot and emaciated outdoors last winter, pleaded no contest Monday to two felonies, including reckless endangerment and causing mental harm to the girl. . .
. . . Four other charges were dismissed as part of the agreement but can be considered by Genovese when she sentences Drabek-Chritton.
Drabek-Chritton's son, Joshua Drabek, is awaiting trial in June on charges of child abuse and two counts of sexual assault of a child.

Can't wait to see these three in :jail::jail::jail:
