Distinguishing Characteristics: Caucasian male. Gray hair, brown eyes. Breit wears eyeglasses, and he had a full beard at the time of his disappearance. His nose, right hand, and leg have previously been fractured, and he has a "bull-legged" walk. His nicknames are Frank and Frankie, and he may use the last name Knauer or the name Frank August.

Details of Disappearance
Breit was living in Eagle River, Wisconsin when he disappeared. He had Social Security benefits that were automatically deposited in his bank account; the last activity on his account was in July 1990. The strange thing is that if you search the newspapers, it’s apparent that his ‘real’ name is Frank Knauer - there are stories about his boxing career and others going back to 1931.

The ‘Frank Breit’ name only appears in the one story @Keiri posted.

My brief scanning shows that he was a member of a locally prominent family (Knauer), so I wonder where the idea that Knauer was an alias came from (or where ‘Breit’ did).

I wonder if his ‘very strange habits’ reflect some sort of TBI from his boxing career.

As an aside, his sister went missing in 1933, although she was later found to be on a romp to NYC.

Francis Breit was reported as missing from Eagle River, Wisconsin, last seen on July 1st, 1990.

Francis’ son and other mutual friends had not had contact with him for months prior to his disappearance and reported him as missing.

Francis is a white male, 5’2”-5’7”, and 120-130 pounds. He has medium length hair that may be partially or fully gray, a full beard, and brown eyes. He also wears glasses.

He has a healed fracture in one of his legs, unknown if left or right. He is described as having a “bull-legged” walk. He also has a healed fracture of his right hand and a healed fracture of his nose. Francis is classified as a disabled missing person.

Francis may go by various other names: Frank Breit, Frankie Knauer, Francis A. Knauer, Frank A. Knauer, and Frank August Breit.

I'm an Eagle River native. I wonder if he died in the woods somewhere. Lots of deep wooded areas up here. It's hard to trust the Vilas County Sheriff's Office in anything though.
