I disagree. While they didn't find her, they still will prosecute JP. Their work makes that possible.

Agree 100%.

The law enforcement community kept her name in front of the press, something that would’ve been more difficult for the family without their help.

The person who was walking the dog and the people in the house both knew about Jayme, along with so many others throughout the country. I’m sure that law-enforcement put an incredible number of hours into this investigation.

For each of the 1st degree homicide charges there is only one penalty - Life in Prison.

If for some reason one of the defenses to 1st degree murder is successful it can result in 2nd degree homicide and a sentence of 60 years maximum.

The kidnapping charge has a 40 year maximum sentence.

Thank you very much for this information. I really hope Jayme can be spared a trial she should never be forced to be in the same room as this monster ever again. If she is forced to give evidence hopefully it will be by video link.

I’m confused. She isn’t yet with her family because of the reunification process?

Yes - there are more steps to the reunification process than just dropping her off at home and waving goodbye. She has to be medically & emotionally cleared, then interviewed by LE, then (most likely) some sort of structured meeting with the family. She's going to have lots of emotional needs and her family is likely unprepared to take that all on themselves. She's been through a horrifyingly traumatic experience and it takes some time to go through the proper steps to get her back with her family. I have little doubt there is a family representative with her during this time.

Suspect arrested in Jayme Closs case identified as Jake Patterson was hiding in the home he grew up in

Weird. It seems that JTP and his brother grew up in the house, the parents moved when the brothers were "older", and just left the house for the brothers to live in. Though, a neighbor says she didn't know JTP was living there. Confusion. Where was the brother all this time? Maybe he didn't live there any more?

"Neighbor Daphne Ronning said Patterson's parents moved to the home about 15 years ago and that Jake and his brother were raised there and attended Minong High School. The parents moved to another home once the boys became older, but Patterson and his brother continued to use the town of Gordon home,

"We had some problems with them when they were teenagers - we caught them siphoning gas," Ronning said. "My husband talked with them and there was never anything else."

Ronning said she wasn't aware that Patterson was living in the house and had not seen Closs around."

I only see one Patterson in Eau Claire Acres.

What was so interesting to me was that the school superintendent representative never said that there would be support people and counselors at the school and how they would take care of the children.
OMG staaaaahp. She was absolutely elated and full of happy tears and excitement. She couldn’t contain her happiness. I’m sure the school will have counselors, school psychologists were mentioned once or twice. This woman obviously cares, A LOT.
Give these people a break! They have been through a trauma too and their adrenaline is soaring.
Seriously you guys, lay off LE and the superintendent!

Thanks, Curious Maine. :)

From the article:

The Barron County Sheriff released the suspect’s name at a morning news conference. In full, it’s Jake Thomas Patterson. He sometimes goes by Jacob Patterson and is from a family with longstanding ties to the rural area about an hour from where Jayme and her family lived. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald confirmed on January 11, 2019 that Patterson was in custody. He revealed that Jayme was “taken against her will” and was the “only target” of the suspect, whom he alleged “planned his actions and took many proactive steps to hide his identity….Thank you to Jayme for having the will to survive.” He added that “it appears that he concealed her from other people, such as his friends.”

The sheriff said the detectives are trying to figure out how Jayme became the suspect’s target and said he “does have a tie to Barron County” without revealing it. Her murdered parents were not his goal, he said, but he did not release many more details about how Jayme came to be on the radar of the suspect. He said it appears that Jayme was held in only one area, but that was still being investigated. You can see another photo of Jake with his mother and sister later in this article.

Maybe they played Fortnite together? He stalked her?

Also... she wasn't found. She saved herself. Raise your girls to be strong fighters! She gets the credit for this. There were no tips leading to her.

Given the recent articles I have read about all this, could be something like this since there wouldn't be too much for Social Media interactions.

The press conference was "awesome"!!

Thank you to Sheriff Fitzgerald and thank you to all the people he personally heartfelt thanked.

It was so joyous and brought tears for me at such a very heartfelt press conference by those who spoke. Thank you to everyone of you. It is very special to be involved on this website with all of you who care so much.

This is almost an unsolvable crime. Which is why I dropped off the thread a month ago. There was no evidence. There was no family or friend conflicts. No romantic other. No electronic evidence. No bad players.

It's almost like a complete stranger pulled up to the house in the middle of the night, guns blazing, took Jamie, and was gone in minutes. Guy is off the radar and has a house to keep a captive. He preplanned everything.

There are not many ways this gets solved. Basic police work has little chance.

Maybe somebody phones in a tip about a loner with a house. Maybe the perp slips up and gets arrested.

Or maybe Jamie solves the unsolvable crime herself.

Wonder if it was like that awful Connecticut murder where the mother was followed home from a gas station (or maybe it was a store?) and the family killed that night. Completely random.

You're right, and good for her to give a description of the vehicle, which was subsequently spotted and pulled over.

I really, really doubt that is any digital evidence tying him to her. I doubt he met her online. There would've been evidence of it. Even something like Fortnite. LE would've combed through every player, every interaction.

I think this happened offline, in person. Maybe he went to that casino, maybe he was in Barron for some other unrelated reason and happened to see her in town, at a restaurant, at a dance recital, whatever. Then he planned everything out and returned later.

IMO.
