I never would have expected LE to pull over the Taurus on the way to the Closs house. But I would expect the car to come up as part of the investigation the next day. I would think they would have pulled the dashcam footage if there was any and tried to see if they could get a lead on the car that may or may not have been in the vicinity of a double murder and an abduction. Routine stuff.

I'm sorry you had to experience that, but am thrilled that you found your way to a good PTSD Specialist. Best of continued luck to you!

Thank you. I haven’t had all that much support as far as family goes. If I had, I’m 100% sure my stress would’ve been 1/2 of what it was, and treatment would have been easier and quicker. That’s why I’m so glad that Jayme’s family seem very strong and loving. I love that they’re protecting her and letting her talk about things only if SHE is ready to do so. They’ll keep any of that info private, too, I’m sure. I think that’s so important whether you have trauma or not. There’s a lot to be said for a supportive loving family. jmo

I’m keeping my mind open on the foster care issue. As far as I can see, it was only mentioned once, by one neighbor. (And then quoted all over the place.) For all I know, the neighbor got the Patterson family mixed up with someone else.

Have I missed anywhere where “went into foster care” is well documented?
It was only mentioned in that one article, I believe. I haven't heard anything about his parents leaving them, just that the dad worked 12 hours a day and JP was left alone all day.
Even if they were in Foster care for a short period of time, it does not mean the parents left them or even had a choice. Children are sometimes placed in foster homes or group homes because of truancy issues or behavior problems. It's usually 6 months to a year. Imo

How did Jake Patterson's life lead to Jayme Closs?
Teachers and classmates at his small country school described him as smart and quick-witted — quiet, but not a loner. He had friends and was well-accepted among the 34 members of the Class of 2015 at Northwood School, most of whom had been together since kindergarten.

He played video games, board games — “Risk” was a favorite — and devoured Tom Clancy spy novels.

So what could possibly have transformed this lean, prematurely balding and reserved young man into the alleged perpetrator of a brutal crime that shocked a nation?

“Something just got stuck in his head,” said JM, Patterson’s maternal grandfather. “I can’t imagine anybody thinking about this, let alone doing it.”

In Haugen, a village of about 270 residents some 45 miles south of Gordon and home to Patterson’s mother, DF, few noticed Jake when he visited. “It’s a very close-knit town,” said one resident. “If you haven’t been here three generations, people don’t really know you.”

Frey, who drives a school bus for the nearby Rice Lake district, has lived in town only a short time, but locals know who she is by the bus that’s sometimes parked in front of her home.

“She’s friendly. She’d wave when she went by,” said JH, owner of the Village Grocery. Hill said last week that he didn’t see Jake often, but remembers him stopping in the store occasionally for cigarettes.

“Marlboros,” Hill said.

“It’s profoundly sad. It’s not ordinary sad,” Moyer said softly. “We lost our grandson, too. It’s like a death.”

Said Fisher, Patterson’s best friend: “I’ve been trying to figure it out, and I can’t.”

(names changed to initials by me)[/QUOTE]

Above, BBM, the one paragraph strikes me and it is probably just media and the way it comes across. Since he was NOT from the small town for generations or a regular, they would not NOT notice him, they would notice him FAR more than others imo. Just like one knows I do not recognize that car in a small town... Everyone sits and goes, who is that that just drove by? Like when a small town bar goes silent when a stranger walks in...

I thought JP's dad lived there until JP went of to the Marines and then he relocated to be closer to his job? Maybe I misunderstood?
I’ve seen both multiple times ... below is where I saw one of the quotes... it states they were left there... then foster care.. if both parents bail on kids at that age... that’s extremely sad.... especially after divorce...
if you can confirm what really happened let us know ...

Oxygen article

She and Patterson’s father divorced in 2008, according to online court records. Neighbor Daphne Ronning told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the parents moved away but that Patterson and his older brother, Erik, continued to stay in the cabin where he allegedly held Closs captive. The brothers then reportedly went into foster care for some time.
Let's ask @PommyMommy she'll know for sure and I'll search for an article or something I saw that mentioned he was there. I truly don't know RB.
My understanding is that following the divorce of JP's parents, he bounced around before living at the "cabin" in Gordon on a permanent basis. There have been conflicting reports but this article seems to be the most accurate to me.

Whatever the answer, it lies along the stretch of Hwy. 53 that runs roughly 100 miles from Barron, Wis., to the shores of Lake Superior.

It’s here where the 21-year-old Patterson spent most of his days, living in a series of small towns dotting the highway before settling in at his father’s remote cabin 9 miles east of Gordon.

Frey and Jake’s father, PP, had a troubled marriage and divorced when Jake, the youngest of three children, was 11. Court records show that they filed for divorce in 2005, reconciled, then ended their marriage in 2008 after 19 years.

The divorce decree provided scant details other than outlining the financial arrangements and joint child custody. Both parents were required to take a class titled “Effects of Divorce on Children.”

Moyer said the divorce bothered Jake, “like it would any kid.” But he’s not sure of the lasting impact.

As Frey moved from one local town to another over the years, Jake began spending more time at his father’s home in Gordon, according to VF, whose son Dylan was a close friend of Jake’s through middle school and high school.

ETA: The only mention of foster care seems to be from a neighborhood woman, I think? I'm not really sure who she is.

Jake Patterson: Suspected killer, kidnapper's life remains a mystery
One woman, PO, described Patterson and his brother as getting into trouble.

“They’ve stolen stuff before. They’ve been in foster care,” she said. “And the dad I guess, I don’t know. I’ve met him and talked to him when I walked through the neighborhood, but that’s about all I know.”

2008 to today with Patterson family house in Gordon is up in the air... it’s stunning for neighbor to mention... and hard to believe reporter wouldn’t do follow up question.

Foster care is bizzare off handed statement, but it’s equally bizarre one parent wouldn’t be with kids till 18... it’s also stated Patrick got full costudy...mom didn’t get partial ?? Maybe it’s telling maybe she was just broke and it’s nothing .. dad just stated there 7 yrs ?

Of course there's no guarantees. Just death and taxes, as they say.

Maybe it's what she's done already - fighting to survive. Or the fact that she can smile at all, much less in every single photo. Or, as you mentioned, the support network and resources at her disposal. I believe there's at least a few reasons to be optimistic.
I don’t disagree but I’ve noticed that her smile now doesn’t quite reach her eyes in the same way it did before. But that she can smile at all is a miracle. IMO

On a different note, I went back and read the complaint again. I noticed it reads JP learned the identity of the Closs parents he killed after coming back to his house, and once home, watching the news and reading social media. It’s the social media part of the complaint I hadn’t noticed before.

TYVM Pommy, I knew you'd have something in your vast arsenal. :)

This sounds like he did bounce back/forth between the parents and I don't think there's been anything concrete as far as foster care. Yep, clear as mud haa! :D

I don't know. I don't think its standard procedure to stop a vehicle that yields to an emergency vehicle on route to the location. I have never seen that done. If he had been seen turning out of the driveway, that would have been a different story. About twenty seconds earlier and he would have been much closer to the driveway. Imo
the critical question is:
is the road a busy one?
if not, definitely should've stopped him as it was ''near'' the crime area

PommyMommy came through in the post right above. Looks like the parents had joint custody and JP bounced in between.

No you probably would have froze like many people would. How does it help to speculate about what they could or could not of done? They were innocent victims who were awoken and probably disoriented and confused. SMH

I have been in a few situations like this, and I did not FREEZE. It helps to talk about it because if YOU are every in situations like this then you should know what probably wont work.

That was one part of the CC that I believe he outright lied about. I find it hard to believe he didn't do any searching about the family beforehand. JMO

Not to mention his car was likely blocking hers at the end of the driveway, preventing any chance they had to safely escape.
And they were presumably in pjs and would have had to stop and grab car keys.

Personally, I keep mine either in my coat or purse in the Living room. Clearly I should start keeping them in the bedroom with me.

At what point should we change this post heading and commentary to initials and refer to her as JC?

This is the precedent in other cases here with minors located, I believe.

Because Jayme has been on the cover of People magazine, the top story all over the world and continues to be discussed, it is impossible to revert back to her initials. Like Elizabeth Smart, the case is so big there is no way to go back from using Jayme's name to using her initials.

You are correct. There is a precedent and we remove full names of minors all the time. This case is flat out just too big.

The difference is that they had a loving parent or parents to return home to. I believe she will survive and thrive with her loving aunts, but that difference is enormous. It is a difficult grief to lose both parents at once in the best of circumstances. This is just beyond. I did wonder when people said she looked tired or sad in some pictures -- well she lost her parents! It may be that as she recovers from the ordeal of the kidnapping, that grief of losing her beloved mom and dad will be worse for a time.
I completely agree. She spent 88 days trying to survive. She has probably not had any chance to truly grieve.

They had no idea they we’re heading to the scene of a violent home-invasion and kidnapping.

They were responding to a 911 hang up.

They do not stop cars for this. Ever.
1.-- if the road is not a busy one, they should've stopped him
2.-- aren't all 911 calls taken to be serious?
3.--911 call:
No one spoke directly to the dispatcher.
= this usually means it's not a fire/not a car accident/etc...this means something more serious...someone is in trouble--they had enough manpower to stop the car and get to the house, yes?
again--critical:
cops/etc should be suspicious of everything

911 is for reporting EMERGENCIES; where an emergency is defined as an IMMEDIATE threat to life/health/or property. For situations which do not fit those criteria, please dial 970-668-8600. A large percentage of 911 calls are accidental, especially from cell phones. If you dial 911 by accident, DO NOT hang up!

I guess my main question about all that is where did the Patterson parents live after the divorce? I think dad kept the cabin relic, but where did mom go?

I know before Jayme was found, we kept trying to make sense of the crime scene. Now we have somewhat a handle on that (the complaint is much more thorough than I could have ever imagined, so most of us were left with our jaws hitting the floor), I do wonder about JP’s profile.
