Just to make it clear Familial DNA testing is NOT the same as Genealogy DNA testing known in last two years which requires million hours of research through multiple trees and thousands of relatives.

Familial dna testing on the other hand is done in almost every case nowadays to confirm usually already known/suspected identity of someone. It is taken from only the closest family members - parents, children or siblings.

This case was solved by the crucial tip by Linda's neighbour (and not the husband as some assume here). Neighbour was also named in some of the articles.

My own assumption is that after that tip and LE investigation they found out Peggy lived with them previously, found her living relative for dna, run it through CODIS and found direct match to Racine Jane Doe - Peggy.

Can you please link to the source that indicates the crucial tip that solved the case came from the neighbor? I read the neighbors found her drunk and walked her home, but nothing about the neighbor doing any more than walking her home.

And it looks like she still has her license. That Board better get on the stick and begin a summarily suspension or revocation of her license meeting. What a joke! They should have scheduled n emergency meeting for Friday. At the latest, this Monday. This is crazy ridiculous. You can view the info much clearer at the link.:

Where else did she live? What state was she reported working in. Her license looks like she was only licensed to practice in Illinois.

Illinois is not one of the states that participates in allowing a nurse to work in another state without get a license for that other state. I practiced in Illinois but would need to switch my license over to Tennessee in order to work here.

She was living in Florida so you’d have to look her license up through Florida. I don’t know where else she may have worked.

The Illinois Board of Nursing will take her license away... don’t worry. Marilyn Lemak murdered her children when she tried to kill herself along side them. She survived and is now in prison and I can assure you that her license was revoked!

It will happen and not soon enough.

According to the criminal complaint, the break in the case came on September 23, 2019 when one of Laroche's neighbors sent a tip to the Racine County Sheriff's Office about hearing her say she killed a woman when she was living in Illinois.

Arrest made in Racine cold case

Then this September, Racine County investigators received a tip from someone saying Laroche "was telling people that she had killed a woman back when she lived in Illinois,"

Sounds like she told multiple people in the neighbourhood when drunk. I read many articles but I think only 2 of those mentioned that it was neighbour who sent a tip and only in one of those two name of the neighbour tippster was stated which I was quite shocked about. I can't find that one anymore, so maybe I imagined it or they quickly pulled it out.

Only after the tip, when police quiestioned exhusband, he confirmed it was valid information.

I really want to know the name of the medical facility Peggy sought help and met LR. Anyone find it? If so, please post it!

Going through all the articles again all of them mention that it was medical clinic and one call it hospital facility, in McHenry, Illinois. None state the name. Not sure how big McHenry is or how many clinics would be out there at that time.

Maybe easier way to find the name would be to look through Linda's info profiles - job history or her Linkedin. Or as registered nurse, her history and where she practiced in that time frame should pop up on some kind of license.

I really want to know this relationship between Peggy and her extended family, but I have a theory, which is all moo.

I'm going to guess that Peggy may have been raised by a single mom. Maybe this could explain why she didn't really have much contact with her grandmother. She was born in 1976 when it was common for families to disown their daughters for becoming pregnant out of wedlock, and also, to abandon kids with intellectual disabilities. I'm guessing it was just the two of them for a long time. Father went on to have this sister she never met and this brother who is now deceased, then passed away years later having little or no contact with Peggy and her mom. Perhaps this grandmother was his mother. Who knows?

Just speculating because I'm curious why Grandma wasn't looking for her or wondering where Peggy was if she's still alive. I just get the impression that the only person Peggy ever truly had was her mother.

All my own dumb opinion based on amateur speculation.

Peggy Lynn Johnson (formerly known as Racine County Jane Doe, or by the nickname "Crystal Rae")[1] was a young white woman whose body was discovered in 1999 in the town of Raymond, Racine County, Wisconsin.[2] The victim was aged 18 to 35 years at the time of her death, which had occurred after her enduring several weeks of extreme neglect and both physicaland sexual abuse.[3] New developments in the case emerged after her body was exhumed on October 16, 2013.[4] In November 2019, authorities announced the victim was successfully identified after two decades. Additionally, a suspect remains in police custody for her murder. Both the victim's and suspect's name were released on November 8, 2019.[5]

The actual criminal complaint doesn't mention the tip coming from a neighbor.

This is a direct quote from the criminal complaint.

"On 9/23/19, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from a concerned citizen that a woman, identified as Linda Sue Laroche, of Cape Coral, Florida, was telling people that she had killed a woman back when she lived in Illinois."

I don't know how to add a pdf link to a post....

.... wait a minute...... I just noticed something. The complaint states the concerned citizen contacted Racine county. Racine is in Wisconsin. How would a neighbor know to notify authorities in Wisconsin if LR was telling people she killed someone in Illinois?

Whoever the tipster was had to have more details than just that she killed someone in Illinois, otherwise they would have notified Illinois authorities.

Also, for those who are not local, McHenry is both the name of a city and a county. Not sure how much clarification will be necessary as future information comes out, but putting this out here in case clarification is necessary at some point.

Peggy was said to have lived in the city of McHenry....... I'm speculating LR may have worked at the McHenry County Health Department. Or, perhaps Peggy met her at a hospital in McHenry. Being homeless, I imagine Peggy did not have is insurance when she met LR.

Cubby, I honestly don't know where journalists getting their information from. I read it in at least 2 articles with link and quote to one posted in previous post.

What is your thought and reason behind this? I am genuinly curious. Are you double checking 2nd husband for possibility he could have submitted the tip? News indicate that it was not first husband who submitted it, so 2nd husband, well, he could.

But, me personally leaning on that it was not either of them but rather one of the many neighbours who heard it, was shocked and tipped the police, as news mention.

I have not double check on information found by WS here that she was married twice and it was not mentioned in any news source, but if she was, I am really curious for how long she was in each marriage. To ponder about possible loyalty of her men to her and that tip, but also if they will be testifying against her in the trial.

I'm so glad she has her name back!!! RIP beautiful young Peggy!! WOW!!! What a tragedy!!! This should rot in prison all the days of her life!! OMG!!! I cannot believe what she subjected poor Peggy to.. I'm just distraught hearing what this supposed nurse did to her and for sooo long!

At least she is now properly buried with her mom and hopefully reunited in heaven with her mom.

Pure speculation, but the following has crossed my mind. This is just food for thought, thinking outloud.....

She might have said something about killing someone in an AA meeting believing it would stay anonymous. That was a fleeting thought based on her recent? dui. Especially if she was going to meetings to help her upcoming dui trial which looks like it is scheduled for trial 11-14-19.

Her first husband's last name is Johnson. It appears she has 5 kids, unsure if they were all with first husband, but at least one msm article indicates 3 were living at home when Peggy lived with them and two lived elsewhere.

Her most recent husband is La Roche. In one of the msm articles it mentions he filed for divorce in September of 2019. I thought he filed on September 17th, but I would have to double check that date. The tip is listed as happening on September 23rd, so the proximity of the dates made me think it's possibly her current husband.

On one hand, when people are in the midst of alcoholic drinking who knows what they are likely to say. She might not even remember who she told.

Additionally, somewhere I read something about her saying she kept pills in her crawlspace because the jails had no system to keep them secure (paraphrased). I wonder if she had a pill problem and now that prescription pills are much harder to obtain her drinking escalated.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I plan on following it closely through trial.

Welcome to Websleuths AlwaysCoffee!

Unknown sister which was recently found was Peggy's full sister and not the stepsister. (At least none of the any articles called her step or half sister). That means they shared both parents, father and mother. She was also older then Peggy. Maybe parents were not yet together or too young when she was born but they were definitely still together when Peggy was born.

News said that her brother was also already deceased but it is not entirely clear if it was before or after their mum passed away.

I wonder what happened to her parents and brother? Does anyone know the name to look up a death notice?

RIP Peggy.

I've found the death notice of Peggy's mother. Her mother's last name was Schroeder and Peggy's brother's name was also Schroeder. That's where the Schroeder name was coming from. Her brother was 14 when their mother died at age 41 and based on the brother's obituary, I'm guessing Diane had been married to Mr. Schroeder at one point. Peggy's information has already been added to the page. I've attached a link to Diane's obituary.
