EAST TROY -- One employee is dead, and another hasn't been seen or heard from in weeks. On Tuesday, Jan. 15, a 43-year-old Franklin resident and business owner was criminally charged after human remains were found in a burn pit in Walworth County on Jan. 10. Cash bond was set at $250,000.

The complaint prior to the arson, on Jan. 2 around 5 a.m., Neumann's wife said he came home intoxicated, "racking the slide back and forth on a handgun." Later that morning, when she walked outside, she saw a dead body in the passenger seat of Neumann's truck in the driveway. When confronted, Neumann said he "shot Rich or Dick over a pack of squares." That victim, along with another employee, were reported missing. She left the home, and when she returned, Neumann and the truck were gone. When he returned, "his clothes smelled so strongly of diesel fuel she made (Neumann) put them outside."

"A search warrant was conducted at the defendant's business. During the search, a cadaver dog alerted on four separate areas of the business," officials said.
Evidence led investigators to a farmhouse and land which Neumann leased for hunting -- located along County Road J in the town of East Troy. Upon executing a search warrant at the East Troy property, a burn pit was located which contained the charred remains of two individuals, as well as other items including pieces of charcoal and charcoal bags -- and a Spot Free Cleaning trailer next to the burn pit. A witness reported a large fire there -- either on the afternoon of Jan. 3 or Jan. 4.

"No names will be released as to who the remains belong to, and investigators are still in the process of making a positive identification," the Franklin Police Department said.
The criminal complaint said investigators spoke with the girlfriend of one of the missing employees, who said she had not heard from him since about 4:45 a.m. on Jan. 2 -- when he told her he was with Neumann "at his shop" -- Spot Free Cleaning, located near 27th Street and Puetz Road in Franklin. She said since then, all calls went to voicemail. The complaint said around 5:55 a.m. on Jan. 2, the missing man's phone pinged near Neumann's home.

The girlfriend of another missing man told investigators the last time she heard from the Spot Free Cleaning employee was Jan. 3 at 3 p.m., when he was at the business. A welfare check was performed for him the next day -- when his vehicle was found in the parking lot. Cell tower data revealed the last call he made was in the early morning hours of Jan. 4, near Spot Free Cleaning.

Press Release Re: ***UPDATE*** Franklin Police Investigation

On Tuesday January 15, 2019, Mathew J Neumann a 43 year old Franklin resident and owner of Spot Free Cleaning in Franklin was charged with 1 count of 1st Degree Reckless Homicide Party to a Crime, and Hiding a Corpse Party to a Crime. The charges in this case are a result of an Arson investigation being conducted by the Milwaukee Police Department in early January. While assisting in this investigation, Franklin Police Investigators uncovered information of a potential Homicide by the above named suspect, and linked him to reports of two missing men.

Evidence led to the execution of numerous Search warrants at Neumann’s Home, Franklin Business and a vacant farm house and land which he leased for hunting located at W2114 County Road J, in the Town of East Troy, WI.

Upon executing a Search Warrant at the East Troy property, a burn pit was located which contained human remains. No names will be released as to who the remains belong to, and investigators are still in the process of making a positive identification.

This continues to be an active and ongoing criminal investigation even though charges have been filed.

We are continuing to work with our Law enforcement partners from the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the Milwaukee Police Department, the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office Investigators, Town of East Troy Police Department and the Waukesha County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Prosecutors: Remains found in East Troy burn pit believed to be employees from suspect’s cleaning business

Matthew Neumann, 43, was in court for his preliminary hearing, during which a Franklin police sergeant testified. The hearing was adjourned until Jan. 30.

The remains found in East Troy are believed to be those of two employees from Neumann's cleaning business in Franklin, Spot Free Cleaning, according to prosecutors. Test results are pending to confirm their identities, but the sergeant testified Wednesday that two workers, Richard Conklin and Robert Hajduk, went missing in early January.

"The 4th, his phone was going straight to voicemail. I knew something was wrong," Hajduk's girlfriend of 10 years told FOX6 News in an exclusive interview Wednesday. "I have replayed many different scenarios in my head. Two bodies, two people missing and linked to the boss -- I immediately feared the worst for everybody. I think the worst has already been confirmed."

According to prosecutors, investigators found blood belonging to two different men in two different places.

"The Crime Lab has established, as of Friday, that there are two separate male DNA contributors, however, positive identifications have not yet been made," said Sgt. Jeremy Fadness, Franklin Police Department.

MILWAUKEE — Matthew Neumann, a Franklin business owner, pleaded not guilty on Friday, Feb.1 in Milwaukee County court to multiple charges. This, after human remains were found in a burn pit in East Troy.

The remains found in East Troy are believed to be those of two employees from Neumann’s cleaning business in Franklin, Spot Free Cleaning, according to prosecutors. Test results are pending to confirm their identities, but the sergeant testified Wednesday that two workers, Richard Conklin and Robert Hajduk, went missing in early January.

Neumann is facing one count of first degree reckless homicide (party to a crime) and hiding a corpse (party to a crime). He’s been criminally charged for the death of Conklin.

Neumann is due back in court on Feb. 27.

Portions of Neumann's first video interview with police were played for the jury, with Neumann telling police he was with both missing men on New Year's Day 2019. He explained that, after making the rounds at bars, Conklin and Hajduk took off with one of his trucks to rob a drug dealer for money.

BBM. It goes on to say that the above was lie as he later changed his story. What a despicable man lying about his murdered employees being criminals. His next lying story after that tried to blame one of the men for murdering the other and going on the run. Typical lies of a murderer. MOO.
 
MILWAUKEE — Matthew Neumann has been found guilty of killing two of his employees and attempting to hiding their bodies by burning them in pit on his East Troy hunting land in January.

The 44-year-old has been convicted of two counts of first degree reckless homicide and two counts of hiding a corpse. He's due for sentencing on January 31, 2020 where he could face over 140 years in prison.

Very glad Richard and Robert got justice. This creepy thought he was going to beat this!! Hope he has that attitude inside. That would be perfect. Hope this brought some peace to the families of these men.MOO
