Will Drew Peterson get a new trial?

@faithx - unfortunately the Will County court site is not working for me today - wondering if there might be another hearing date for Peterson? TIA! :)

Cales shared an underwater video of what she says is her sister’s skeletal remains with “Crime Nation,” a television show on The CW, which shares a parent company with NewsNation.

These remains were found in a canal in Lockport, a city 35 miles outside Chicago, Cales said.

Authorities searched but did not find Stacy Peterson. Previous searches in the area had also been unsuccessful, a police sergeant told The Chicago Tribune.

By searching with sonar, Cales said she and her team were able to get live video, which shows an “upside-down” human skull with two eye sockets filled with silt, and a lower jaw bone that fell off.

“It’s somebody,” Cales said. “Whether it’s my sister or not, they need to be brought home.”

Unfortunately this article is not allowed in Europe... :(

Any specific info?? TIA! :)
Hi niner….. sorry about that. And who would have thought that on an international scale? :(

It was a short article and light on details. Seems that one of Stacey Peterson’s sisters (Cassandra Cales) believes she and search teams have located what they contend to be human remains of her sister? In an area of the Lockport canal, near Chicago, Illinois.

What was also odd IMO from reading this article, was that this sister also believed she had found or had knowledge or evidence as to a possible location for the remains some years back - if I am reading this correctly? And that this latest ‘search’ might have included the same area?

It is also not clear whether there is belief that remains were observed or believed to reside in a certain location? Or whether or not any have been located or found? It didn’t seem anything had been recovered?

With the time elapsed it would seem that could affect any possible remains. I seem to recall that when this case first made news, there was a belief that remains were placed into a blue-colored plastic ~55 gallon barrel drum. But there is no current information on that theory. Stacey Peterson, IIRC Drew Peterson’s fourth wife, disappeared in 2007. Mr. Peterson was a former Illinois police officer sergeant.

Perhaps others can also read this and contribute a synopsis of this for us. MOO

Stacy Peterson's sister believes she has found her sister's remains. Using sonar -- she says she found a skull and bones not far from where Stacy went missing in 2007. She says police won't help her retrieve the remains and she may have to pull them from the water herself.

3/6/24 Update: Peterson did not appear at the Will County Criminal Courthouse Wednesday morning as several hearings got underway. The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office asked for a special prosecutor to handle a case involving Peterson’s former attorney Joel Brodsky, who they said violated a 2022 gag order. The judge accepted the motion to appoint a special prosecutor in the case. The state said the reason for the recusal is that Brodsky may be called as a witness to future post-conviction proceedings. The state believes Brodsky violated the order by speaking to the media & violated his attorney client privilege. Though Brodsky denies the allegations in court, the state wants him held in contempt of court. Brodsky filed a motion to dismiss the petition. Peterson is fighting to get his conviction overturned, saying he did not receive effective counsel & that his former attorney did not allow him to testify. Peterson wants a new trial. Peterson’s team wants doctors to do an evaluation to see if he’s mentally fit & whether his recent national media interview could be used as part of the evaluation. The judge quashed the subpoena request for the footage. The judge said the plan for the next hearing is to go over the evaluation & if deemed necessary, bring Peterson to court. The next court hearing for Peterson & his former attorney is scheduled for 4/1/24.
