Woman accused of poisoning friend with eyedrops

My 1st eye drop case... I'm thinking the prosecution's forensic expert(s) will provide enough evidence which will seal the deal for a conviction. Not to get too ahead or confident but this case screams guilt. Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law!

So very sad for Ms. Hernan who I suspect loved and trusted JK.

Was Ms. Hernan still actively operating the salon shop and working as a cosmetologist at the time of her death? Wasn't able to locate much info about her.

Sounds like a fascinating case and thank you so much for the heads up.

All speculation.
It took a while for LE to reach the conclusion it was murder, though. At first, they thought it was suicide. I bet the defense argues for suicide. If LE was convinced at first, maybe defense can convince a jury member.

Didn't JK have a gambling addiction? If so, that will play a factor - there are 24/7 cameras filming your every move, and I suspect there are online casinos as well. The internet searches and the electronics will be a goldmine. Further, what about receipt(s) for the eye drops, there were several bottles if iirc, but I'd say defense would be able to explain away a large purchase of eyedrops. moo.

Eye drops? Geez....
I wonder how much?
Read the thread. The paramedic's wife had 30 times the normal amt, but who knows what that really means? A few drops of eye drops in a bottle of water? A few drops of in a bottle of water over time? 1/4 of a bottle of water displaced with eyes drops?

A previous post stated 6 bottles. That must have tasted horrible.

Great point. Is normal amount "a serving of eye drops" or 8 oz or whatever?

[Aside: I wonder if this is how Lori Vallow killed Alex? Visine poisoning looks like a heart attack, yeah?]

I'm interested to know more about how JK obtained POA. Was this a potential POA abuse, obtain fraudulently - if so, will there be any added charge(s) of elder fraud & abuse?

Hernan had a "large amount of crushed medication on her chest and a plate directly to the left of her with a large amount of what appeared to be crushed up medication still on the plate," according to a criminal complaint obtained by Fox 10.

Kurczewski told the authorities that she and her mother, Jennifer Flower, had been caring for Hernan, had keys to her home, and indicated that she had power of attorney over the woman.

Investigators initially believed that the death was the result of a drug overdose, but a friend of Hernan said she had doubts about the claims and suggested that Kurczewski may have been involved.

The autopsy results showed that the woman died of a fatal dose of tetrahydrozoline, which is the main ingredient in eye drops, and the Waukesha County medical examiner said that it is "impossible to have that level of tetrahydrozoline in the blood just by using it in the eyes," according to the complaint.

Although tetrahydrozoline is safe to use in the eyes it is poisonous when ingested, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

On July 9, 2019, more than a year after the woman died, investigators searched Kurczewski's property and arrested her, placing her on probation and parole.

During interviews with police on the following day, Kurczewski said that she never gave Hernan eye drops and suggested that she "must have staged her own suicide with the crushed pills."

She also disputed the medical examiner's conclusion and claimed that she had seen the victim drink Visine, a common eye drops brand, with "vodka before her death," according to the complaint.

Story changes....

However, a day later, Kurczewski told the police that she gave Hernan a water bottle with six Visine bottles in it, but claimed that it was "her choice" to drink it.

Maybe we won’t get it until after trial?

Watched the recent hearing on this. Interesting case. We’re back in Judge Dorow’s court and she actually seems pretty decisive and strident when she’s not dealing with a pro-per pro-se alleged defendant, Darrell Brooks! Whew! I’ll be following. Thanks for the info.
