From her daughter,
I want to thank everyone who has us in thier thoughts and prayers. This whole thing is still a mystery to us as the police are not devulging any information. We are still in the dark as to her where abouts the 19 hours prior to when they pronounced she was dead. I urge anyone with any information to please contact the police in Jefferson county. Even if you just saw her in passing Thursday August 14th or 15th. My mother is greatly missed we will not be able to move on until this person is put to justice. I just hope the police are able to find out the truth to what happened and who did it? My mother is from Mt. Airy MD, but did go to the race tracks for entertainment and drove to Charlestown for Cigerettes frequently. There has been a great deal of support for my father and the rest of the family and I thank everyone for that. It has helped us to get through this tragedy.

Sincerely, Lynn

I am truly horrified by this crime, and my heart is heavy for the family. If Edna went to Charleston to purchase cigarettes, have the security tapes from the stores she usually went to been reviewed?

I'm so sorry for your loss, Lynn. I wish there was something I could do. Just know that our hearts are with you in this horrible time.

Lynn,
So sorry for your loss. I will keep your family in my prayers. Hopefully someone saw her during that day that can fill in the timeline.

Lynn - thank you for posting at Websleuths. It takes a lot of courage to post here and talk about what happened to your mother. I cannot even begin to imagine the grief you and your father are feeling.

I hope LE is working this diligently and checking surveillance cameras, cell phone records, etc to try and nail down where she was before this happened and I hope they are helpful and forthcoming with you and your family throughout your quest to find answers.

You and the rest of your family are in my thoughts.

Bumping for Edna,
and Lynn if you are reading~:blowkiss:
How are you doing? Have LE arrested anyone for your mother's senseless death? Any suspects? I hope no one else in the area has been killed this way.

I have thought about her many times and wondered. If anyone has heard anything, please post. Thanks

Lynn, you have my sympathy for the horror you and your family have gone through. When you feel you can, please give us an update.

For all of those who have been following this story and wondering why no one has heard anything new since August, I 'm her daughter and we've gotten no closure. The police still have not concluded homicide or suicide and still state they have no toxicoligy reports or final coriner report. This is rediculas how something so horiffic can go un answered for so long. The police do not return my fathers calls and they are being very closed lipped. It feels like the case has been lost in the case files. They never even printed my family members and compare to fingerprints in the fan. We feel they will simply close this one as they did the other 8 ladies in the area as suicide just to get it off there desk, but can't do so until final toxicoligy reports are in. The people of Charlestown need to demand answers. They found a 72 yr old lady in the river the week of Christmas from Silverspring MD and declare natural cause. I don't know about you but its a little far from home to take a stole on the river alone at this time of year????????? Please help us find the answers and bring the person doing these crimes to justice before it happens to one of your loved ones.

Lynn

Hi Lynn, my prayers for you and your family over the loss of your mother.

I just want to get some facts straight on the case. The weapon was a box cutter, and not a machete. A box cutter seems to be not more so a weapon of choice, yet a weapon that could be easily obtained, concealed, and available a lot of places.
19 hours are unaccounted for as to where your mother was before she died?
Would it be possible she had went to a casino, won a lot of people, someone followed her to rob her?

Also, that there are 8 other cases of ladies in the area ruled suicides is very worrisome. Would it be possible the deaths are connected?

"Troopers found Edna Mae Trout, 57, dead inside her Ford van at about 3:45 p.m. Friday at a roadside pull-off along Bloomery Road in Jefferson County, south of Harpers Ferry. The area is popular with kayakers and river rafters.Troopers do not know why Trout was in the area. However, Trout would often go to the Charles Town Races and Slots with her husband, Sgt. Richard Dyroff said Monday."

Has LE or anyone checked any surveillance video footage at the Charles Town Races and Slots to see if your mother was there at any time the day or night before her murder?
It sounds like a robbery gone wrong. A box cutter is small and not a big weapon, maybe someone either got in the car with your mother using the box cutter as a threat to rob her, or followed her in another vehicle, running her off the road or flagging her down on the road, anything to stop her to rob her.
If the motive was money, i don't see why murder would be necessary unless the person who killed her knew she would be able to identify him. She would have recognized him from somewhere (maybe the casino area) and once he realized he would be recognized, he freaked out and started to stab her, she has the defensive wounds. The perp realizes he's gone too far and kills her and flees the scene.

Hey Everybody,
I'm a fairly new member and an up-til-now lurker who has a thought about this sad, horrific case. First, Lynn, please accept my condolances on the loss of your mom. No one deserves to die like that and I'm certain the questions surrounding her death are driving you and your family mad.

My thought (possible insight?) is on the weapon used. A boxcutter can be and is often carried by x-cons because it is not expensive , easily attainable and not considered a weapon, therefore not illegal for them to possess. In addition, around my part of the world, boxcutters are also carried by other females wanting a cheap, effective weapon. When closed, they fit easily into the palm of the hand or purse and they are extremely sharp, slicing like a straight razor. In my humble opinion, the person who committed this act could be someone who has already done hard time and/or a woman. For what it's worth....

Hi Catmammy,
I am glad to see people are still interested in my mom's story. It has been very difficult not knowing. I just heard final reports are now in but have not yet seen the results. As far as the box cutter, we believe it was my mother's. She was a subcontractor who worked on construction sights and had those in her van along with her cleaning supplies and other tools. It was her construction van they found her in. This year is full of mixed emotion for my family. My youngest brother James just had his first child right before her death. Her grandaughter had a baby girl last week. I am now pregnant due in May. My other brother John is now expecting his first child adding two additional grandchildren and one great grandchild to the family that she will never of had the opportunity to meet, and my dad found out last month he had colon cancer. He did have surgury and it was successful. It's been a roller coaster for us. I hope others continue to follow her story and keep her memory alive.

Hi Chicogirl36,
Sorry it took me so long to reply. We have not received any news from the police. The case is still open with no suspects. I was just informed last night that they just received back the toxicology and corinars reports back but have not yet seen the results. I'm hoping they confirm this was homicide and move forward with finding her killer. Suicide is not an option for my family no matter what the outcome. Personally it's just an easy way out for police to close the books when they don't have any leads. Thanks for keeping this story alive. It's nice to know people outside the family have her in there thoughts.

Please let us all review this case? I know how wonderful everyone is on this site.... Please, please help
