I suspect that he was aiming to carry her to the dense woods off to the West (about another half-mile from where she was found), but then realized that it would take a lot of effort so just settled for that patch of trees. If you've never had to carry a limp person before, it's a lot more tiring than you'd expect.

The denser woods were to the east. The west was just wider floodplain for the creek and Highway 191, and it would be more apparent the closer west he got to Highway 191

People meet at the library all the time. If it's like the public library I work at cameras would not be allowed. Also, the staff could not talk about what books the Laundries looked at or even if they got on the computer. Patron privacy is a HUGE deal. LE would need a court order to access any of their records. Libraries got even more strict after 911 and developed a computer system that didn't even save records so courts could not ask for them. However, all that would not prevent the press from skulking behind shelves.

I think they were
1) killing time while the law office was cleared out, maybe they were early for their appointment (Traffic between North Port and Orlando could be 2 1/2 hours or 4 or more depending on how many crashes. I-4 is frequently a NIGHTMARE)
or
2) seeing how tight the tail on them was. (Let's see how many people follow us in here)
But they weren't in the library to "Go to the library"

Why would the law office have to be cleared out?

Do we know for sure that he sat around for 10 days? No one seems to have actually seen him since around Sept. 3 IIRC. Its possible he was long gone before Gabby was reported missing, and he was "relocated" by Mommy and daddy! Moo

Is there an account of Mr. Petito seeing him when he was at their house on Sept 10?

Random thought that is probably totally off base--

Did they maintain the separation after they left Moab? Maybe they decided they had to get this worked out, and they decided she'd stay in the hotel and work on the social media while he'd park the van somewhere he could hike? She definitely wouldn't want to tell her family about that.

Would those parameters change if the owner of the property was deceased and unable to give permission?

MOO is that banks themselves have hard fast rules and policies related to money supported by the FDIC and used car purchases may not be as concrete and fall under different state statutes? Maybe?

The funeral home that is doing the service for Gabby has listed a place for people to order flowers as well.
