I have a question for those of you familiar with physical DV. Gabby claimed to have hit Brian first during their scuffle and also said she hit him when the police pulled them over. She also said Brian did not hit her but grabbed her face and pushed her back. She was very clear that Brian was wanting her to calm down. I believe her.

Is it normal for victims of long term DV to initiate violence with the one they fear? Or is it more likely that Brian's violence was new? I have no experience with DV and this is an honest question.

To be clear, I in no way put any blame on Gabby. I'm just trying to understand as I find this confusing.
I’ve DM you with a link. Hope it helps.

I'm not the only one who has raised an eyebrow at the fact that the coroner is a current family practioner. But, it sounds like lots of specialists were brought in to assist.

I mentioned this before. My dentist ran for and won the coroner election the previous term. It was icky to think about. But he was generally a mouthpiece for the department. I’m sure he assisted or viewed. This is in Illinois.

Coroners in WY are not required to be doctors or pathologists. They only have to take a coroner course. They’re also elected officials. This guy is a politician.

I don’t like that he did the interview, but the whole system in WY is…not ideal for situations like this. MOO.
Not only in WY, there are many counties in various states that do things in odd ways that could be much better.

I doubt that anyone who is not qualified would have participated in the autopsy. As well, I certainly do not feel qualified to judge this physicians qualifications. I just think second guessing his credentials isn't worthwhile...JMO.
Also, AC CNN probably were on top of it and were first to ask for an interview, long before his public announcement. jmo

I do not believe it was THEIR campfire but one they found conveniently. MOO

IME with dispersed camping… a large dispersed camping area is defined by rangers or Regulations. You may camp anywhere within those boundaries that does not impede the road and does not further disturb wildlife. Responsible campers park where others before have parked, place tents in obviously used tent sites, and build fires where previously built. I have never been to spread creek. This is just my general experience and opinion

We'll probably never know what happened. Even if BL gets caught at some point; I don't see a way that he ever tells the complete truth about what happened. MOO
I keep hoping that others turned in more photos that were not made public after the sighting of the van on Scattered Creek Road became public. My hope is that there may be photos or reports of seeing a tent, or seeing them there at the van, or seeing an abandoned or throw away tent -- something.

In some cases that are subsequently solved by DNA, the assumption that LE knows more than the general public later turns out to not really be true. I do not believe that this is one of those cases.

I believe that there is a large trove of electronic evidence, webcams, photos, eyewitness sightings, financial transactions, and the like, that have probably already been collected by LE and that will not be made public until trial, if ever.

Would like to add that autopsies are not as ‘glamorous’ as seen on TV. The ME does not do everything and in cases like this, as he stated, multiple people in different areas of specialty are brought in.

He likely performed the standard portion of the autopsy which almost doctors are well qualified to do. There was most likely a number of forensic experts present (photographer, evidence collection, etc) and he stated that an anthropologist was present. Given that, I’m more than confident that there is no reason to doubt his qualification or findings.

My qualms have arisen because he said multiple times that due to WY statutes he couldn't say more than COD and MOD. And then he did. Maybe the DV comments were an "oops." I don't really believe that but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But appearing on talk shows later on was obviously thought out in advance.. premeditated if you will. That seems wrong especially when he shared more than he shared at the official press conference he apparently called.

So I wonder about his qualifications and experience too.

JMO
I didn't watch it so I would be grateful if you would tell me what more he shared on the interview.

Yeah, those transit vans aren't huge. It's probably not much different than driving a minivan.

Manual transmissions are extremely rare these days. My guess is +90% chance that it was an automatic. Although a utilitarian vehicle like that probably has a slightly higher chance of having a manual transmission than a "normal" passenger vehicle.

I guess it could have something to do with poor visibility? It has no rear windows, nor any "backseat" windows. You don't have a normal rearview mirror, and are forced to use the side mirrors. I know a lot of people (myself included) that aren't super-comfortable using the side mirrors.

Maybe GP just didn't really like driving in general?

Yes, she gestures with a grip just at the bottom of her chin, very close to her throat, but not around it. It's a chilling moment, especially given the outcome. So frustrating that "slapping" was the only thing that got attention that day, not pushing, not shoving, not grabbing, not taking keys away, not locking out of van. Not reckless driving, not speeding. Not lying about the phone. Slapping, that's it.
Yes, imo these officers are almost as gullible, naïve and incompetent as the ones who let Jeffrey Dahmer convince them a 13 year old boy covered in blood and crying was his adult male gay lover in a little disagreement

I live in an area where coroners are elected and are not required to be a doctor (ours is a funeral director). At least here, the coroner is NOT the person who conducts an autopsy. If an autopsy is needed, a pathologist performs it. The coroner just the person who signs the paperwork, if you will. I don't believe the coroner personally makes decisions as to cause/manner of death. They take the report of the physicians/entomologists/etc who perform the autopsy tests and then use that to fill out the paperwork.

I don't really understand the questions about the coroner's qualifications - is there suspicion that the autopsy results are incorrect?

ChL finally cut his overgrown grass. I kind of feel sorry for BL's parents. They really don't have any friends they can call on to help out with mowing, shopping, cooking meals, etc.?
You are a better person than I. I have no sympathy for them, nor do I feel any compassion for the position they have put themselves in. IMO they are horrible human beings. There is a reason they have no friends showing up, no support from the community or press or anyone at all... They handled this they way criminals with everything to hide would... No empathy from me for their current situation. IMO

In the UK we tend to have more manual than automatic although they’re becoming more common.
My hubby installed parking sensors for me as it didn’t have them before so that’s helped me, but I agree it is awful trying to park, reverse, overtake etc without a rear view mirror. I agree maybe she just didn’t like to drive, some people don’t.
