The dry bag in your picture was found separately from the backpack and notebook. The Laundries found this bag off the trail along with a "dark object" which they put in the bag. So not sure what it is but its not the notebook because that was with the backpack and remains further down the trail
thanks so much, that changes things for sure!

He’s angry at himself and projecting would be an alternate view

I think he probably just sees the situation from a different perspective. We now know his clients were involved with the FBI from nearly the start and it was the media that whipped up animosity against them. Now, he is probably watching people he knows suffers through the worst thing that could possibly happen to them and he feels they've been treated unfairly.

In that sense, I have to agree with him. Brian parents were treated unfairly. People can legally follow the advice of their lawyers and say "No comment" without the media acting as though they should be ignoring their attorney and talking. JMOO, but why hire an attorney if you're not going to heed their advice?

What happened is all on Brian and Brian, alone. The media whipped this case into a frenzy, and social media did the same. Considering that half-a-million people go missing in the US every year, it's kind of an anomaly that this happened with this case.

But, in the long run, this case is no more important than the case of any missing/murdered person, and we still need to respect the laws that maintain our rights (the right not to speak).

All MOO.

Re: opinions that Brian Laundrie’s actions can be chalked up to an immature brain.

NO.

I’m a cognitive neuroscientist by training, and age-related changes in the frontal lobes and the impact of those changes on executive function was my beat.

The frontal lobes CHANGE THROUGH THE ENTIRE LIFESPAN. They are absolutely immature in childhood and are still maturing quickly through the teen years. But this was a 23-year-old man who was just about at the PINNACLE of his brain function before the frontal lobes start to get smaller and less efficient again.

I am middle aged and my frontal lobes (very sadly) probably don’t function as well as they did when I was 20.

people have taken the research, pop-psyched it, and are now using it in all kinds of crazy ways. Should we charge 14-year old kids as adults? Hell no, based on the brain science. But is a 23 year old old enough not to murder his girlfriend from the perspective of the frontal lobes? Hell yes.

as a side note, the science suggests that TESTOSTERONE is more of a factor than frontal lobe function when it comes to the uptick in violent acts by males in this age range.

I think we will, the timing will just depend on what is in there. The investigation isn't closed, as far as I know anyway. There are still a lot of questions to be answered. I think eventually, even if it's years down the road, most of the information will come out to the public, even if it's from a third party and not the Laundries.
Honestly, I think people are going to be disappointed even if it is disclosed.

I'm taking a guess that it'll all be drawings. Obviously, they'll be analysed to death.

IMO.

For me I've accepted that life doesn't really give us closure in general... Closure is something we create to close a story line because that's how we cope and move on as humans.

I mean what's the point. Its clear they were in an unhealthy relationship with documented violence. Gabby was strangled by Brian. Brian ran home, then ran off and killed himself. What else is there to it.

Why did he do it? Because he was capable of violent actions against her and this one went too far.
Was he remorseful? Does it matter he killed her. otherwise he wouldn't have run off and killed himself.

Like the families involved we all will just have to accept the conclusion and know that reality doesn't offer tidy and complete endings.

Very well said IMO.

I was able to watch Marnie's interview of Steve Bertolino and he's so angry. He's angry at the public, angry at our speculation.
I just don't think he is equipped to deal with the public in a front page case like this. He rants about Fox pundits and media talking heads speculating and essentially being sensational and hyperbolic. I mean, SB, it's the media, what do you expect...?
Speculation occurs in information vacuums.

What is that black, rectangular thing? I thought that it was a notebook. There's what appears to be a gold foil butterfly (IMO) on it. it could be a leaf or something else but IMO it looks like a butterfly. It also appears to be fairly large, you can see the impression it leaves on the dry bag. If the butterfly is on it, that means that it would have to be pretty thick/deep as well. There's some dark black embossing that's shiny and raised on the corner peeking out.
When we first saw those pics, on whatever thread we were on at the time, I speculated that it was a picture frame. I could maybe see someone who intended to die in the woods bringing along a family photo or maybe even a photo of Gabby to have with him as he ended his life. Just speculation but since it does appear to be something decorative, I'm still wondering if that's what it is.

We have two young people who set out on an adventure and within months both are dead. Tragic.

I believe BL, within his right mind, murdered his girlfriend GP. This was intentional. He then is in panic mode and probably abandoned a few cover up scenarios before ultimately withdrawing some of her money and taking her van back home to FL. I don't think he thought he was going to get away with this, but was buying himself time before all heck broke lose with her parents wanting to know where she was, LE was alerted or an event where GP was found before her parents were even aware something was wrong.

I believe BL goes home and tells his parents a big lie, where GP is the bad guy, she was making risky decisions and wanted to carry on the trip with another person(s), there's a bad breakup and he doesn't want to deal with her or her parents. I DON'T think he told his parents he killed her. He probably acted as normal as he could but he knew this was going to blow up and time was not on his side. Police show up on 9/11 he knows the pressure will be on, he tells his parents he's going on a hike and goes to that park with the sole intent to commit suicide. Here we are. IMO

How did he know two lives were lost on 9/14?

Edit: 5:20ish mark I believe.
Also, if he’s known CL for 25+ years, why has he only known BL who is 23 “since he was a small child”(around 1:25 mark).

IMO I’ve had hammered home some somewhat obvious lessons, but reinforced by figure

1/ As per one of her interviews (sorry I’ve lost track of which). GP’s mum speaks about feeling like something was off; but ‘everyone’ kept reassuring her all was fine. LESSON: Listen to your intuition when it comes to your kids/grand kids. Mum and Stan knew felt something they couldn’t explain..Learn to listen to that feeling, it’s smarter than your frontal Cortes knows!
2/if your kid f’s up and LE starts calling/ parents of girlfriend who is MIA start calling… YOUR PRIORITY SURELY IS TO KEEP YOUR KID ALIVE. Achieve this by any means necessary.
3/DO NOT….I REPEAT…DO NOT, under any circumstances hire a real estate lawyer to represent you for any matter that does not pertain to real estate. And if you have a friend that’s some kind of lawyer that does NOT specialise in the area of law you need, and DOESN'T REFER YOU TO SOMEONE WHO CAN… are they acting as a friend in your best interest? I mean, I have a friend that’s a board certified plastic surgeon, but there’s no way that’s who I’d turn to if I needed brain surgery….but they’ve both been to medical school…
EDITED to add NOT

I agree with this (and that he's angry at the media). He might have had some idea of how to manage things in the legal realm (although that is arguable), but he had no clue of the media s***storm that would come and that he would only make worse by how he responded. He was so far in over his head. Regardless, I think the outcome would not have been different -- nothing he could have done would have prevented BL from ending his life. Actually, his actions did add fuel to the fire of public opinion, so in that respect, he made it even worse for the Ls. JMOO

Yesterday Bertolino made the rounds with his PR interviews…guess he’s still doing them. I watched his interview on GMA this morning. George Stephanoplis didn’t let him fluff it through. Sorry, haven’t found a video to post yet.
Was able to rewind GMA. I tooka video of the clip where he basically says they have info but isn't commenting on it, but it's too big to upload. Ugh.
