If the car was in RL name, yes it could be reported as stolen. I know it's true but will add IMO.Maybe they didn't hand him the keys? Maybe he grabbed them and took off. Could they report the car as stoilen? Not sure.

If the L’s were so worried about BL leaving because it was so apparent he was grieving and upset why give him your car keys?
SB said the parents can’t stop a 22 year old from leaving, why hand him the keys to enable him an easy way to leave then?
If it is a box of some sort, maybe the gold is the metal latch? That's exactly what I was thinking. I said last night as well that I thought it was a butterfly because that's such a distinct shape. Of course, men can own stuff with butterflies on it and there's no telling who's it is but my gut reaction was that it was Gabby's. JMO. Someone here pointed out that the gold thing very well could be a logo and I think that's a good point. Whatever it is, it looks to be fairly big, bigger than say a coin, compared to the officer's hand that's showing, and looks metallic like gold foil. The black thing it's on is large, I'd say 9 inches to a foot wide, and it's not the notebook, the notebook was found separately according to the fox news article and the photographer who took the photo.
I don’t understand why you think CL could’ve called police to prevent his son from leaving? What action would’ve police be expected to have taken at that point, prior to the credit card charges being laid.
They may not trust they are who they say they are. Gut reaction by me. MOO
I regret we won't see a perp walk now. There is no way to equate the homocide by strangling of Gabby to the death of a coward who stole her vehicle, her credit cards, ran home, cost taxpayers a great deal of OUR money, then psychologically tortured his own family by his reckless actions. I don't need a weather vane to see which way the wind blows. IMOWhy do you think that being charged with murder and being made a spectacle of would have saved his life? People are so riled up about Gabby, it wouldn't surprise me if they wouldn't have taken matters into their own hands. People's emotions have become so accelerated that I don't think anything he or his family would have said would have been believed or understood. I'm sorry for the lives lost, and don't think any of us know enough about what was going on behind the scenes of a few news clips or talking heads' analysis to make any judgements of any of the involved parties.
A pair of workers asked the #Laundries for permission to cross their property to work on a utility pole behind their house. The parents told them to come back another day.

You're right, the Laundries and Brian have sucked the air out of the room. And it's amazing how the public forgets a beautiful young woman who was strangled to death by the person she loved and then left while he used her vehicle and money to try to get away with the crime. She had protected him Moab and he sought that same protection even after killing her.Ultimately l see Brian’s bones as his confession - in any manner that he died. That’s moo of course.
And l don’t care frankly about that part of the story anymore. It’s anticlimactic and unfortunate perhaps even a senseless ending as it turns out Brian is not some survivable expert or criminal mastermind - moo.
I do still care about his parents coming clean and understanding that part of this puzzle.
I am very concerned however with SB’s spin publicly last night.
In SB’s interview with reporter Kristen Thorne’s he has begun to paint Brian as a distraught and grieving person who ultimately walked into the Reserve never to return, (while his parents stood by helpless).
Of course we don’t know what Brian was grieving about to his parents…SB declined to comment on that. (I have a
a good guess though)- moo
But there is a danger in SB’ spin.
I think this article explains to better than l ever could:
“ I worry that his death will somehow soften the impact of Petito’s. I worry that it could engender sympathy for him, or prompt a Romeo and Juliet framing of, “what a tragedy for everyone”
It’s a great read:
Brian Laundrie’s death isn’t what we should care about in the Gabby Petito case
The advice for the Laundries to say nothing certainly could have been much more nuanced, and they certainly could have been interpreted with less intentionality. Just because you're ignoring something doesn't mean you need to mow the lawn right in front of them. It appears heartless, not just toward Gabby and family, but toward their own son.
Come on now. MOOTheir son was alive when SB entered the picture, and now he's dead.
In their defense, they just got confirmation their son is dead. I wouldn't have even come to the door.
And if his son were suicidal? Threatening death by cop? Would CL want to rain that scenario down on their heads? So many possibilities. We just don't know enough to condemn them. If culpability is proven, I will. Till the I remain open and sympathetic. All my opinion, of course.Again, I'm probably in the minority here, but I have far less blame for SB than I do for the Laundrie family. At any time the Laundrie family could have made the choice to do right by Gabby, even against the advice of their attorney. Their attorney had no relationship with Gabby, owed her nothing, but the Laundries can't make the same claim. As for not being able to stop his son from leaving? CL could easily have called the police the moment his son left the driveway. He chose not to and while it's not his fault his son made a decision to most likely go out there and die that day, there was plenty he could have done to prevent it.
I completely forgot about the messages, sorry. But like I said initially, a wild theory.and sent a couple of strange messages from her phone, and took her credit cards?
At the very least the Laundries knew something was wrong. Brian left with a fiance and came home alone, in her only mode of transportation. Unless someone is completely braindead it's not difficult to ascertain there's a problem, a big one. So you have a son that has something big going on and if you even want to play the game that he's telling his family they broke up and Gabby's continuing the van life excursion with someone else and won't talk about it, there's still the knowledge that he's going through a hard time. Then your son is "visibly upset", so upset that you want to keep him from going anywhere but can't physically stop him. So while you can't call the police to prevent him from leaving, you call the police to have them help if you think your son is so upset that you're concerned. It's called a public service/wellness check call. Especially since CL knew where Brian was going to. Call LE, let them know the son is upset and you're worried. LE would have gone to the park and perhaps been able to head something off. It's one of the services our LE provides, suicide prevention. But they can't do that if they aren't alerted.
Or he was hiding from them. Too much stress for him to manage.I was wondering if Brian moved around a bit at first in the Preserve. His parents went to look for him right? If he was only a mile off the entrance why didn't they find him that time? Is it possible he didn't die right away but was in the park for awhile and then became deceased by whatever unknown cause at this time?
