The annual Italian Market Festival has a tradition of dangling Italian meats and cheeses from a greased pole for visitors to attempt to climb and claim the prizes, but this year's event left the dangling foods unclaimed.

Organizers said a crane was brought in on the last day of the festival to remove the leftover prizes, but weather conditions led to a surge of visitors late in the day that prevented the removal from going forward as planned.

Emily Post would be proud.

A high school class president in Massachusetts who gave a commencement speech wanted to recognize all of his fellow graduates. So he wrote them personal thank-you notes presented at the ceremony — 180 to be exact.

Time travel? It’s 2016 in Ethiopia.

CNN —
On September 11, Ethiopians will celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another.

However, when the East African country rings in its New Year in a few months, it will technically be 2017, according to the Ethiopian calendar.

So why is Ethiopia, Africa’s second most populous country, seven years and eight months “behind” much of the rest of the world? And how does that work for Ethiopians living on an increasingly interconnected planet that mostly operates in an entirely different era?

The answers lie in traditions that date back centuries – and a firm sense of national identity.

An Unusual Listing for Sale of Home?
"A beautiful three-bedroom home in a sought-after San Francisco neighborhood has hit the market at $488,000."
Median sale px in neighborhood $1.5 mil.

There is a CATCH: Buyer cannot live in or use the property until after the current occupier '"either dies, vacates or the lease ends.'"

More from article:
"... until 2053, and they won't be receiving much rental income in the meantime.
"The home is currently occupied by a protected tenant who pays just $416.67 in rent a month and has 'possible occupancy rights until 2053'."

A R/E agent said "... the property could be used as a 'land bank' by buyers who wouldn't need to sell or use the property until after the current occupier 'either dies, vacates or the lease ends.'"

Hmmm, could be a looong wait for new owner to enjoy the property.
Unless, say, ;) problems develop w plumbing, furnace, air cond, leaky roof, etc.
Will owner be quick to arrange for professional repairs & replacements? Or let problems slide until tenant cannot stand another minute of it, ETA: and vacates thenpremises?

Seriously, I hope buyer & tenant can make the arrangement work. :)
