Dylan MAY have severe dyslexia, and that's why he doesn't have his driver's license. Cannot read well, and may b unable to pass written portion of t test.

Dylan probably has dyscalculia which not all dyslexics suffer from. He may struggle with just Reading Numbers (digital clock, etc), as well as other numerical/math'l concepts. This is prob why GdF attempted to control his finances (at least initially), as well as why Dylan cannot tell time

I am in special education (although not a verified professional here). Many of my students are in the MR range (under 70). They can be taught to tell time. They can read. They can hold jobs. They can be taught to read.

My brother (now deceased) was lower IQ, along with some other health problems. He could read, he wrote quite well, he could tell time from an analog clock, he absolutely knew right from wrong. He did not drive, didn't have good motor skills or depth perception or reasoning ability.

At the same time he was impressionable and could be easily persuaded by others to do things without understanding or thinking of the consequences or beyond the moment. He was like a perpetual 14 yr old if I had to put an age to it. I suspect Dylan is probably somewhat similar.

I know. I get it. I just don't think he's reliable.

On top of the fact that he has been Zach's main enabler all of his life.

I know he did it out of love for his boys, but it is still an issue.

The stress this grandpa must have and still is enduring.

Could not agree more. On the DAILY. I cannot imagine. I know folks say he has covered for Zach all these years, but wow, I just plain feel for the guy. These are not his sons to raise.

But unfortunately his child didn't raise them right. Not saying he isn't responsible at all, but at his age, he probably just wants to live in peace. And his wife died. That has to be hard.

She is scoring lots of good points as to Dylan's true abilities.

o, Wow!

Grandpa can be feisty!

He knows in his heart of hearts. These two must have nearly driven him mad

Interesting family dynamic. Boys live with and next to grandpa. Grandpa gives them trucks, money, and basically enables them to do whatever they want without much consequence.

Where's mom in this equation? Not right there. I realize ZA and DA were over 21 at that point in 2011, but I get the impression they had been running wild for some time.

So many young men are given a free ride from high school on. Enabling mommies with their big baby boys, or grandparents. Not expected to work, become functioning members of society, held accountable by their families.

When one looks to the collapse of certain segments of society, remember this case.
