It's unlikely her private medical information would've appeared in the press, both because of press restrictions on reporting and because who on earth could've known about it, outside of close family. More likely the welfare visit was known about by journalists and could possibly have been...
He mentioned the other case in his original statement on social media, so I'm not sure he's given an interview to the press at all actually, they're just reporting that first statement (still time for the interview, of course!). To be fair that first statement is pretty dignified. I think he...
What baffles me is why, if the possible story concerned the welfare check (which to me now seems near certain for the reasons you've outlined, as well as because the person with the information seems to have confirmed it as well) the police couldn't simply have dealt with it by saying "NB had...
You know what, I think you're exactly right. The welfare check is a much more likely subject for a story than private medical issues which the press may well not have been legally allowed to publish anyway.
And that opens a whole other can of worms, because it would mean NB's private health...
The initial police statement said it had been "explained" to the family why it was necessary to release the information, which rather implies they weren't wholly in agreement with doing so. It certainly doesn't sound like the family requested the information be released.
The family then...
<modsnip - quoted post was removed for implications about a non POI and social media rumours>
Very good points. So in fact, any story that might (or might not) have come out may not have directly concerned the information about NB's drinking/hormone levels at all...
That makes a lot of sense...
Agreed, surely there's standard official language they can use in such cases which doesn't go into intimate detail about a person's problems.
Lancs Police need to hire an experienced media communications person (or sack the one they have!).
Interesting, thanks. So does that mean the press would've been unlikely (or even unable) to print a story on her alcohol/menopause issues anyway, if the police hadn't officially announced them?
Also, what information was supposedly going to come out? Surely nothing about her hormone levels, which is private medical information and is very unlikely to have been known by anyone outside her immediate family. Perhaps something about past episodes of drinking, given that police said her...
I have to say, it's hard to see how someone selling a story could've had any greater impact than the official police confirmation has had - front page splashes in many newspapers, headlining news bulletins etc. I'm sure any gossipy story about her drinking would've been widely condemned, too...
I haven't been particularly critical of the police up to now but I agree, today seems like a massive screw-up. They held a press conference stressing that NB was a high risk person and then asked everyone not to speculate as to why, like that was ever going to happen. Then out of the blue they...
From memory I thought she mentioned it during her recap, as a way to explain why Nicola had immediately been classified as a high risk missing person. But it's not as if any reporters were querying why they started looking for her so quickly, so still seems an odd thing to emphasize, especially...
Oh sure, I agree. I'm slightly wondering why they mentioned them at all, unless it was to hint at suicide (or perhaps a medical incident associated with an illness or pregnancy) without wanting to state that explicitly. Of course, that itself is speculation!
