12 years. Lower than I think almost everybody expected. Only two years more than the minimum. Doesn't seem appropriate given the violence and the complete lack of expressed remorse.
As distasteful as it is, Smich's 2nd murder conviction probably should be appealed to the SCC. The bodies of evidence were so different for the two defendants in that case that perhaps trying them together for Laura's murder should be legally reviewed.
Millard and his cases however are all...

In the video she describes the verdict reaction on Renee’s side as a “roar”. So interesting how we’ve gotten different descriptions. We can hang on single words on Websleuths, and it’s a good reminder how subjective objective reporting can be. She also describes a very emotional and poignant...
I feel bad that Kim may have another delay and period of uncertainty. I was thinking about her today and how suffering is so inequitably distributed in this life. She lost her father to suicide in 1990, her only sibling to murder in 1998, and her struggling mom to MS just a few years later...

"Ari Goldkind is a criminal defence lawyer and legal expert unrelated to the case."
"We can learn about what the jury thought of Mr. Wright by the recommendations for parole...
The sentencing will be interesting. I suspect Wright will decline any substantive statement due to the intended appeal. The number the judge comes up with will be meaningful because he is very likely somebody who will be released someday. His age at the time of the crime, his clean record since...
Thanks musicalnote. My thoughts going into that were what several here have expressed at one point or another. How fundamentally unbelievable his story was, how incongruous with normal human instincts. The fingerprint evidence, his DNA in significant quantity associated with her fingernails. I...

Verdict. Court resumes at 4 pm.
Relatively quick for a several week trial. Good in that it means it was fairly definintive to them, either way.
