I mean, the clear connection is because they worked together and they both disappeared in the desert. People are putting them together because few colleagues disappear within a year of each other.
I agree. I'm surprised they haven't had more tips to bring about even small clues. But your reasoning is on par. The person who carried it out is probably gone, too. People need to be on the lookout for friends who have also disappeared in the area.
Unfortunately, this didn't seem as if it would have a good outcome. This poor man. My heart aches for him and for his family. I'm not familiar with the legal system in Australia but I hope they get the maximum penalty allowed. It won't bring back Chris but it's the best just that the world...

I can only hope the reason it's not getting more press is that there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and the police don't want to jeopardize anything.

Let's say this is a legit ransom note. Do they have Nancy's life-saving medicine? If so, then it has to be someone with intimate knowledge of her needs. (Like a close friend, or a housekeeper) If the kidnappers are giving until Thursday for the money, then they have means of keeping her alive.
